Go for Yamalube 15W50 then, its around 500rs and abit lighter than Motul 5100 15W50 which itself is lighter than the Gulf Pride 4T Plus.Originally posted by ryan.virgo View PostMotorcycling Experience:

@psr sir: thanks for the info. Have tried castrol once, and that was the last. felt it was much worse than the oil provided by Hero. btw, what kind of effect will this w50 oil have on the FE (just trying to learn). also i dont care much about the top speed. in the 3 yrs of owning ZMA, took the bike over 110 max around 6 times.Originally posted by psr View Postw50 is too thick and bike will not rev freely,your top speed will be low, and FE will also get affected......If not in Motul try Shell AX5 or AX 7,....or Valvoline 4T, or Gulf pride 4T,...but never go for Castrol since there are many fakes...
@ashwin: is the motul 3000 15w50 a double ester? the bottle doesnt say anything about it.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostEverything below double ester is good for the ZMA. I have'nt personally tried double ester but I've heard of many riders complaining of head gasket leaks after using Motul 300V Double Ester.
Also what do you guys think about the castrol dot 4 fluid?karizmatic

w50 will make the bike lethargic in acceleration and because of the extra effort needed for moving parts to rotate in the w50 oil , the FE will reduce...but bike will feel less vibes,and smooth...if you will ride at 60 kmph and below,then you may like it...otherwise stick to w40 oils.Originally posted by shirish View Post@psr sir: thanks for the info. Was getting a sound from my front wheel so took it to my mech. Anyways a service was due so left it with him. He changed the following:
- Front wheel bearing
- Fork oil seals + Fork Oil change - one seal had bursted a few weeks back
- Rear brake shoe
- Swing arm bushes - there was quite a lot of play in the swingarm
- Some 3 black hard rubber things which go into the wheel. Not sure what these are called. They are there in the middle and they can be seen when the wheel is removed to fix a puncture..
- Ignition cable - went back to stock from Spitfire cable
- Center stand - the old one was cracked and gone!
- Couple of small things here and there
- Usual service with water wash and oil change
He did a good job and charged Rs2000 for all the above..We are miles away from the routine.

looking this thread after a long time. my karizma turned Two last friday and her odo reads 23600km. facing a new problem- a rattling noise at cold starts. after about 10-15 minutes of riding the sound is gone. my usual mechanic told, my crank bearing is gone, but i dont beleive him. i showed it to company- the supervisor toldthat the cam tensioner is damaged and so accordingly i changed the tensioner and was charged 5oo rs. buuut the cold start rattling noise still exists. i am worried a little bit..

Timing chain. Please confirm with PSR.Originally posted by Jerrin View Postlooking this thread after a long time. my karizma turned Two last friday and her odo reads 23600km. facing a new problem- a rattling noise at cold starts. after about 10-15 minutes of riding the sound is gone. my usual mechanic told, my crank bearing is gone, but i dont beleive him. i showed it to company- the supervisor toldthat the cam tensioner is damaged and so accordingly i changed the tensioner and was charged 5oo rs. buuut the cold start rattling noise still exists. i am worried a little bit..
PS: Changed disk brake pad @Rs1180 and KBX Dot 3 oil. Also replace clutch plates with honda clutch plates, just rub few plates now they are working fine.
Q- Which tire is best performance with chain socket cover. I don't like zapper one.Last edited by NIGHTMARE; 02-26-2013, 10:33 PM.

Since the work was done by SVC take it back to them and show the problem for getting a solution....I am unable to guess the problem since you were generic...was it Fairing ,rattling, or any specific place ? and type of noise etc., will help in guessing what it could be.Originally posted by Jerrin View Postlooking this thread after a long time. my karizma turned Two last friday and her odo reads 23600km. facing a new problem- a rattling noise at cold starts. after about 10-15 minutes of riding the sound is gone. my usual mechanic told, my crank bearing is gone, but i dont beleive him. i showed it to company- the supervisor toldthat the cam tensioner is damaged and so accordingly i changed the tensioner and was charged 5oo rs. buuut the cold start rattling noise still exists. i am worried a little bit..
Change your brake oil to DOT 4..do not use DOT 3..DOT3 deteriorates fast and makes braking bad,and dangerous..Originally posted by NIGHTMARE View PostTiming chain. Please confirm with PSR.

Which Honda clutch plates did you use and what was the rubbing for?Originally posted by NIGHTMARE View PostTiming chain. Please confirm with PSR.

Best tyre other than Zapper would be Dunlop 100/90/18(CBZ stock tyre), or Michelin Sirac Street
P.S. - how is the Honda clutch plate performing and how many kilometres covered so far? I'm planning to go for Unicorn clutch plates myself

Am I the only one who believes the stock oil is good for the price?Originally posted by shirish View Post@psr sir: thanks for the info. Okies coming to 15W50, am using Motul 5100 SS 15W50, it takes a few hundred kms for the oil to set in properly, currently mines around 3k old, cold starts are effortless, I dont high speed anymore, after my upsize I ride at 2~2.5k rpm, which means more heat, and the oil handles that with ease, once in a while when am late for class, I crack open the throttle and bike pulls till 110kmph in 5th gear, this is with normal upshift at around 4~5k rpms from 4th gear. Which I believe is satisfactory, considering the added weight and drag after the upsize.
@Jerrin bro,
Did you delay any oil changes? Anyways drop by sometime, I'd like to have a look at that.
@All,
For the past few k's on deacceleration with clutch engaged, say like Im doing some 60ish and I downshift quickly to 1st gear, and when I engage the clutch the block makes a panting kinda sound. Its like the engine is panting, but it doesnt affect ride quality what so ever. Abit confused on the same, It doesnt bother me, but still would love to know the reason behind it, for the time being am suspecting play in the timing chain.Motorcycling Experience:

Is this your first Karizma? If so, try riding another one and check if its the same or better. Karizma braking relies more on the front disc as rear brake is not very good. So the rear tends to get a bit wavery on hard braking if you're not used to it and use the front disc more in hard braking. But if there still is a problem then you need to check if rear shocks are ok and adjusted to the same settings, replace the rear swingarm bushes, and check if swingarm is true, check if tyre has irregular wear, if so then replace. If problem still persists then please check front fork, t-plate, etcOriginally posted by drsamratroy View Posthello friends.i own a karizma r bought 1 & half years back with 11000+ KMs.i have been facing this particular problem for quite some time.my rear tyre skids on hard braking.i have totally lost confidence in it.now i am planning a tour of around 500kms.so friends kindly give your inputs regarding this & if needed which tyres do i need to replace it with without needing to alter anything in the chain cover etc.also i am thinking to change the stock handle-bar with ZMR's clip-on handle-bar which i totally loved...

Also what do you guys think about the castrol dot 4 fluid?[/QUOTE]
@all: any thoughts on this.
Also have been facing another issue with the self starter. Till the last few days bike didnt start at the first crank and the trip meter and clock would reset. and now the self doesnt work etal. it makes a krrrrrr noise when i press the starter and the display dims. Thought it could be an issue with the battery as my ride is 3 yrs old(2009 Nov). But the horn, headlight and indicators all work without any issues. could this be an issue with some fuse or with the battery?
P.S: Planning to upgrade the battery to a 9ah one in couple of weeks.karizmatic

If the issue is not with the battery then it could be with the worn out starter brushes. I had the same problem of krrrrrr sound, just replaced the brushes and it is working fine since then.Originally posted by shirish View PostAlso what do you guys think about the castrol dot 4 fluid?

Check battery connections first....since bike is 3 yrs old ,the battery is the likely culprit for the non start problem...Originally posted by shirish View Post@all: any thoughts on this.
