You can also do one more simple method ...when the engine is hot and running, accelerate throttle to 3,000 RPM and tap the Carb at the center with the back side of a BLUNT screw driver, and try a few blip of throttle to max...ride and see if the problem had gone away.

2. Your choke cable may be stuck in slightly open condition...Pull and push on the choke a couple of times and ensure the cable returns to rest all the way, and there is at least 5 mm slack in cable..

Thanks sir, the throttle cable had to be replaced . Everything is perfect once again.

Then it must be the "B" cable.....you would have noticed the difficulty in twisting the throttle..

Drained and refilled oil today. Rimula R4 after ~1.5K kms was very dark. I think it's done a good job clearing up the engine.
I was able to source another bottle of R4 from the distributor and I put about 850 ml in today. The bottle contains 1 litre of oil. The recommended change is 900 ml in the ZMA, I believe.
The marker showed slightly over the full mark on the dip stick before draining, so I didn't put in the entire litre of oil after the drain.

I had to replace the RR unit as well, the day before, the 20A fuse was blown. No matter what we did, it kept conking out. We checked all wires etc, and finally narrowed it down to the RR unit. It is expensive here at 1728 rupees.
Thanks to PSR ji, as always, for his kind help.

Note the finish (quality) of the new unit isn't as good as the older one. L is the old one, R is the new one (obvious, but just in case...!).

Here in Pune, they're as if "so what. leave the bike here. we'll take a look". I'm not the type who'll argue or shout at them. I realized I'm trying to reason with an unreasonable system.

All in all I'm just back from the SVC. It looks like my ZMA atleast, understood me. I can't hear the squealing sound anymore (for now). I'll shoot off a mail to Hero and scout around to find some good mechanic who can atleast do something as instructed. (I'll get the instructions from here )
Imagine what happened? I registered a complaint in the "Hero" website. As I got the chain oiled in the interim I was planning to visit a service station advised here over the weekend. I was surprised on wednesday when I got a call; a polite voice mentioning that I've raised a complaint. I went on with the issues and he acknowledged that his superviosr should've behaved and asked me to visit the SVC and call on his mobile.

I visited the SVC on friday evening, gave him a call and it was an experience we all should've been recieving whenever we take a bike there. He asked me what the issues were, noted them in a "minor repair form". On Sat'day he called up and informed the bike is ready. He had the cables replaced, got the bike properly oiled; even the speedometer which is working now; they replaced the spdt assembly and cables.

Upon enquiry he says " Hero has the best service and customer response network. As soon as a complaint is submitted a SMS is sent to the SVC with a copy to the regional service and national service managers. Once the customer is contacted and service provided the customer will be contacted for feedback. If a satisfactory answer is not recieved the issue will be escalated till it is resolved." If the bike is serviced by customer as per recommendations, Hero has fulfilled the warranty promise in 99% of cases.

As far as my experience goes, the system in place worked and it goes to show "we lose nothing in giving the system a try". As a tidbit he mentioned that bikes in the range of 250cc,500cc and even 1000cc models are ready with Hero. They're just waiting for the markets to stabilize.

Additionally, I've cut out a plate to serve as a heatsink as shared by psr earlier http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post836688 .

I think this one is very thin though, but at least it should suffice as a heatsink. Is it a good idea to use thermal paste/compound to get a better heat transfer in such a case? I'm going to use sandpaper to clean up the surface first.

Most of the greenish gray part of the RR that you see is itself a heat sink!

I think I'll put in the remaining 150ml as well. The dipstick's max level is just up to the crisscross pattern, correct? Too much oil isn't good for the engine, but just a bit over the level shouldn't harm it.

Aye, but this will go behind the RR unit (there's metal there), and draw heat away from the RR itself.

Something I observed that wasn't happening earlier - on pressing the starter button, at times the LCD clock display turns off for a second and comes back to life. This didn't happen earlier. I'm presuming that this happened because the battery drained slightly when the bike was ridden for a few kms to purchase parts (disconnected from the old RR unit).

I normally drain the engine oil by keeping bike in side stand and wait for 15 minutes...thereafter fill with 1 liter only....so far no issues.....regarding the Heat sink, the thicker the aluminum the better...we are trying to take away the heat from the device and a thicker plate is good in doing this.... all of the circuit parts are assembled on the metal plate that you see at the back of the RR, so max heat will be at the back...the heat sink at the top is stuck to the parts using Epoxy and so will not conduct heat as good as putting the heat sink aluminum plate at the back of RR.

Same pinch, no issues faced yet. But when you start the bike after, there'll be a considerably noticeable pool of oil in the collector

Thank you PSR ji. Also got to know today that one should measure using the dipstick after cleaning it, just touch it to the thread (not screw it in completely) to find the correct level.
The more I frequent this forum, I realise I know very little. Thanks to everyone who have put in their time and kind inputs that help people.

Hey kariZMArians..

Have a query in my mind.. now that new upgrades are coming in for karizma r and zmr as we got spy pictures.. have a fear that zma will b discontinued..?

Should i go for the ZMA or wait till the new upgrades come in the market?

Also i have road side parking.. what precaution are to be taken of? Petrol and battery theft will be the issue..

I will get freebies like -
Helmet, riding gloves, embossed number plate, teflon coating, bike parking cover, seat covers, handle grip, wax polish, washing shampoo.

Is teflon coating and handle grip cover really worth?

Your help will be greatly appretiated..

You will need to decide on that. Any bike from the ZMA to the 250R to the Dukes to the Ninja. Somehow, these are like computer upgrades, the next processor/graphics card is always around the corner

Also i have road side parking.. what precaution are to be taken of? Petrol and battery theft will be the issue..
You could use a bike cover, and also a disc lock/alarm disc lock in addition to the regular lock.

I will get freebies like -
Helmet, riding gloves, embossed number plate, teflon coating, bike parking cover, seat covers, handle grip, wax polish, washing shampoo.

Helmet - choose your own helmet, follow the helmet thread to get a good idea of what to get. A good helmet of Indian make will set you back by about 1.5 to 2K rupees, whilst imported ones go from 3 to lots of K's. Decide on your budget, your safety and get it.
Gloves start from 300 onwards as well.
Most RTO's have to give an embossed number plate as standard now, so they are not providing an extra.
Seat cover? Handle grip? (Doesn't the handle already have a grip?)
Wax polish and shampoo?
Polishes like Turtle/Formula 1/MotoMax are available at a low budget and will do the job.
Avoid teflon coating it is not teflon, and will ruin the finish of your bike later on.

I don't think my meagre inputs were helpful, but don't let the accessories provided make you decide on which bike you wish to buy.
There are so many threads on the subject, review what you need, and buy a bike for that purpose, and you'll be happy.

New upgrades to the ZMA? Where did you hear that? It'll probably be replaced by new models made with EBR technology but it seems unlikely that any real change is planned for the ZMA itself(unless I've missed some major news)

Sad but true.. minor tweaks here and there maybe.. but the pics caught on cam seem to be upgraded karizma and zmr.. not that it might be the new ebr hero bike.. but more possibilities that they will be the facelifted and maybe better tuned zmr and zma.. this is what my instinct says..
