Can anyone advice how much i can get for this bike?
    Hi there,

For a very well maintained R15 like yours expect about 52-55K INR for the bike itself. Which is a decent price (Premium products depreciates faster than standard items)

I don't know how much you have spent on these performance upgrades but the best way to go about will be give the prospective buyer a separate pricing for both like 54K for the bike + XX K for the performance parts.

And end of the day you can always auction the performance parts on eBay and get a decent price and sell the bike in stock condition.

    Just my suggestions.

All the Best! Hope your R15 finds a good new home!

      • A good mechanic for R15 in Bangalore

        Hi Members,

I am looking fir a good mechanic in bangalore who know R15 in & out.

Of late, there is a tick-tick sound coming from the engine which is loud & can be heard from inside the helmet too, it is very irritating.

I have given it to service centre but they have just adjusted the tappets, but the issue still persists. On confronting, the service advisor is now saying the issue is with the valves & head, the engine need to be opened, heads need to be taken to lathe & all this crap..... estimated cost Rs. 5000 +.

I have no issue is paying this amount but somehow have lost the confidence in the service centres, so if you can suggest a good mechanic who can diagnose this issue & fix it.

        I own a 2008 R15 V1.

        Thank you
        Ankit.

Hello folks, just subscribed to the thread.. funny though.. been an owner of the R15 from August'08 and subscribing to the ownership thread almost a decade late.. 2000+ pages is going to take a while to read through..

Was wondering if I could connect with fellow V1 owners if there's a PAN India or regional R15 owners group over WhatsApp.. and if yes whom do I need to contact to get me added.. any leads on this would be great.

                  Thanks.

                      • Old R15 - Multiple Issues

                        Hi Bhpians,

This is my first post, so please excuse if I am not being very informative.

I own a 9 year old Yamaha R15 (2008 20P1 model. The very first black R15 version). I have only done 70k kms only so far as the bike was not used for almost 2.5 years in between (was regularly maintained to avoid corrosion and stuff). I go for long rides very frequently (once in two months) and find the bike extremely comfortable for the same.

Firstly, here are information regarding my bike.
                        1. No modifications done on any front other the ones mentioned here. I even order the fairing parts from IndiaSpares to maintain the initial look. My engine block was never opened and I have changed my clutch plates only ones. I use an OWS Iridium Spark Plug and Motul 7100 Fully Synthetic 10W50 Engine Oil.
                        2. Recently, I could not find suitable tyres, so I resorted to the MRF Masseter tyres. But instead of a 100/70, I had to go for a 120/80. This has increased the dia of the rear tyre and also the height difference between the front and the rear. There was a difference in the speeds achieved at each gear at specific RPMs, but the decrease in pick-up was at acceptable levels given the handling of the bike was beautiful. (in fact better than the stock tyres.. which itself was mind-boggling)
                        3. My front fork has been having issues. The usual knock sound on complete compression. I have tried replacing the fork cone head, but I guess the mechanic had done a poor job, so that continues to be an issue.
                        4. My chassis has been giving a squeeking noise now and then. I was attributing it towards the change of tyres which might have added stress to the rear shock and the swing-arm section.
                        5. Engine Oil levels has been reducing at a drastic pace. Within a 350km ride, I lost more than 500ml. This is something I could not figure out as to why. I checked for smoke in my exhaust; even used a white paper to test for oil spills(owing to poor piston rings), but it wasn't so. I am clueless regarding this issue.
                        6. There is a clear loss of pick-up very recently (not because of the new tyres). I am in my 5th gear and reach 123Km/hr and then switched to the 6th gear only to notice that the bike started to slow down to 100 Km/hr. I somehow feel, this is related to the loss of Engine oil, but I am not able to make a clear link between the two problems.

Here are the solutions I have come up with.
                        1. For the front fork, I am going to try changing the fork cone bearing again, but at an authorized service center (they would have the right tools to do these)
                        2. I would grease up the joints near the swing-arm to avoid any wear and the sqeaking noise.
                        3. Regarding the Engine Oil depletion and the loss of pick-up, I have no idea what to do. Before I go the Yamaha Authorized Service Centre where they are going to ask me to replace every related part, I would like you Bhp-ians to guide me with your experience on what could be the possible issue.

                          My 2 cents:
                          1. 10w50 oil is not good for the bike. Please try 10w40 fully synthetic.
Iridium plugs are not great either. Try with a stock plug.

                          2. Please get the fork oil seals and oil checked and refilled.
If issue still persists, revisit cone

                          3. Clutch: Get the entire clutch assembly checked including pressure plates, metal plates and bell.

                          3. Oil consumption: Check for Valve oil seals leakage and then move to engine check.

I have bought a liter of 15W50 now (Motul 300V; before I read your reply ). I have not heard or felt any difference between the two types of plugs; copper vs iridium. Are you suggesting that the Iridium sparks would end up heating the engine more than the desirable amount? But I have not noticed any over-heating issues so far.

Could you please explain as to why you feel that iridiums are not good?

Yes, I am also thinking that faulty Oil Seal with the Clutch Assembly might have soaked the clutch with oil leading to both oil dissipation and a malfunctioning clutch. I have to open it up anyway to confirm this.
