Simple Words. Which Helmet would you buyOriginally posted by Sarvajit View PostWhat happened Bro? If it is not good for the bike please let us know your experiences. We are here to help each other
1- A helmet that claims it is not certified by any safety body but is tested by the company itself and assures it may or may not help in a crash. Looks kickass has lots of vents irritation free liner Pinlock and is good for bragging rights.
2- A helmet that is DOT ECE/Snell or heck even ISI certified but looks a bit dumb and doesnt have that much features.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
😁 I got your point Bro. But as you know, the new Yamalube Sporty Premium made by Veedol is giving me the same feeling what you got towards Motul 300V.
So now let us know which oil you are using for your R15 and how is the drain interval etc.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Used 300V for 1500 kms 4 years back lost around 400-450 ml IIRC. I was new to 4 strokes back then and i thought the engine is done. Luckily everything was fine and a change in oil ensured the oil levels were fine. I used Shell AX7 the one with a different bottle than the current ones for 3 years but finally felt the quality has gone down with the recent oil so switched back to Motul 5100. Its fine for me. Drain intervals are 1500-1700 kms from day 1. engine is 1.36 lakh kms old now all stock aoart from a ring change some 80k kms back.Originally posted by Sarvajit View Post I got your point Bro. Use anything apart from 300v honestly.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Wow! How about Motul 7100 then?
I've seen some more owners like Shivanshu who are still running mineral oil and are at more than 1L kms. with stock engine.
So what rings were changed at 56K kms.?
My Mech said that 2008/2009 R15s are coming up with front brake piston failure (like I had and fell recently) and valve oil seal issues.
P.S. We have a lot of info. to share. Where is this WhatsApp group? 😃Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Ring change happened because i was an idiot. Had dismantled the engine and stepped on the oil scraper ring which became flat. The scraper ring wasnt available separately so had to get the entire set.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostWow! How about Motul 7100 then?

yeah have locked up the front once because of piston failure. The oil seals had become fat and were rubbing excessively against the pistons so they got rolled up and didn't return back leading to a lock up. Changed the oil seals for 166 bucks and all is fine.
Most mechanics behave like lazy asses when it comes to removing the pistons and seals so they suggest change the entire calliper set. But that costs 5k.
No idea about 2008 09 R15s but afaik the engine parts are almost same till 2015 in all R15.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Yeah I kept insisting upon my Mechanic but he didn't change the oil seals. And I fell off, hurt myself and finally had to change plastics, get fork throughing and what not done. Total expense 12K and 2-3 weeks no riding [emoji22]Originally posted by black asp View Postyeah have locked up the front once because of piston failure. Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
I am from Chennai and Paras Yamaha in Mount Road are relatively better than the other service centers from my experience.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostWhich city are you from? If there's any possibility of coming to Hyderabad or sending the bike please let me know. I will get the work done with best quality and cost. I really have 2 amazing Mechanics
The costs includes 13k worth of parts whose prices I have checked from indiapares.in Yamaha dealer for charging exactly the same.
They charged 2k labour. I might have saved a little on this, but they have access to tools that precisely fit on R15. So I think it's fine.Nap5t3R

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
@Nap5t3R
I am planning on updating my R15's front & rear tyres to MRF masseter.
While the front is not a problem with masseter, I am wondering if I should stick to stock or upgrade to masseter (120/80-17) for the rear.
Can you throw some more light on how the upgrade has affected the pick-up and top-speed? While handling is important, for me pick-up & top-speed are also as important if not more.

Pick-up - Yes, there is a loss, but can live with it unless you're planning to race.Originally posted by BSTeja View Post@Nap5t3R

Top Speed - The little lesser torque hinders you from achieving the same speeds you achieved earlier.
Handling - it's bliss! Any corner.. Take your knee out and go across as fast as you can. It's even better than stock tyres.
Comfort - If you cruise for long distances in not-so-good roads, the the taller aspect ratio actually help. Also, the bigger tyres help you reach 115kmph at 7000rpm on the 6th gear without any strain. So highway cruising is comfortable.
Critical Issue - the V1 has a small space under the seat for storing things. This was scraped when I went across bumps with a pillion in the back ( to the extent that I have a hole there and am not storing anything now).
My opinion, try them if you're looking for lovely confident curves in the ghats and comfortable and low-rpm long stretches. If you're sticking to the city, look for other options.Nap5t3R

Thanks Nap5t3R,
That's pretty detailed. I usually do not drive with a pillion rider, I use a car for that. So I guess I am saved on that front.
Given I mostly use my bike for long drives with short corners or commuting to office, guess masseter is an ideal fit. Or quite possible, I already made up my mind on getting them and just need some justification
I do not race but yes, I will be missing the usual acceleration as I am used to driving at full throttle even if it's for short bursts.
