In fact, i have used FS oils only twice(300V for 1500 kms and 7100 20W50 for 2000 kms).

    Damn!

So the takeaway here is - This v2.0 engine works great with SS oil as well. And you didn't have great experience with the FS oil which actually is recommended by Yamaha for this engine.

The only question I have now is - Did you ever use the official Yamalube FS? And if no, why?

    Regards.

This is odd as the yamalube FS is the 'default' engine oil for the R15. A great oil too at that. I was under the impression that a high performance engine like that on the R15 merited FS oil.

As for the 300V, there is no better oil available in the market right now. You could bust the red line all day long and it still wouldn't lose its viscosity and the funny green colour. Litre class bikes swear by it and it simply cannot be a useless product. It's an overkill no doubt but one which only adds to the engine performance. Talking about overkill, I used it on a FZ16 for nearly 10,000 kms and never ever bothered about shifting to anything else.

No I didn't. I used the initial ss yamalube but switched to motul 3100/shell.
I don't trust these in house oils at all.

I was under the same impression, however there are conflicting reports regarding the same if you'll read threads here.
As they say, in case of doubt, stick to defaults.

As far as I know and read somewhere in some xbhp thread (can't find), the Yamalubes are rebadged or rebranded Motul itself.
Guess I'll stick to it as I though am a sane rider in city, I like to use the bike's potential to the maximum on highways, it hasn't disappointed so far with performance or with engine heat.

Thanks for all the information though. Cheers.

Initially they were rebranded motul when v1 era was on. When the v2 was launched it was changed to some other brand now it's some company called tide water never heard of it.
Use whatever you want just keep oil levels in check and change them regularly.
I change oils very fast 1500-1700 kms. So for me these exotic oils are not viable.
It works for me rather than using expensive oils and dragging them on for 4000 kms. Engine gets new oil frequently I get peace of mind.
Ya if motul halves the price of 7100 or someone gifts me a bottle every oil change I will go ahead and use that.

Does v1 and v2 performs differently to specific engine oils ?
They share the exact same engine in the same tune with the primary gearing same.
              can anyone clarify please?

Yes they are identical from top to bottom when it comes to engine parts.
For some 300V works for others it doesn't.
No explanation on that part as to why it happens.

                    Hello everyone.

I'm having a Yamaha R15 V2. I'm planning to change the clutch and brake levers to those aftermarket adjustible ones. Is it recommended? Do you guys think it would do any long term damage to the bike.

I have to replace my break pads, chain kit, and clutch plates, I'm looking for cheaper spars, is it possible to buy cheaper spares from some online shop or any brick and mortar shop in Hyderabad?

                    Thanks,

I need some help. Anyone in Bengaluru sold their R15 (V1) in the recent times? Where and how did you sell it? I have a 2010 model that's not used much and is in good condition (needs servicing), and when I put it on quikr, I got really low offers like 38k and 40k. Is that how low the value has gone down to? Is the resale value of the first version really bad compared to V2? Or is it that people care more about the model year and not the condition and how much it's been used?

Please note that I'm not soliciting offers from here. I just need guidance on how and where I can sell it sooner without losing a lot of money and devaluing the vehicle itself.

                      Thanks.

My 2008 R15's front brake piston got jammed and I fell. Please get all your bikes O rings and braking assemblies checked and replaced. Our V1s are growing old!

Yes recovered now except slight wrist pain. Got new panels for the bike and got the forks throughed too. Total 12-14K expense but the bike is rocking harder than ever.

Depends on the condition really.. i have a 08 maroon v1 and those are a rarity in my city so when i consulted the technician he told me it could sell for 45 50k max.. i felt it was pretty low for the condition of my bike.. so didnt sell it off ( plus emotional value). With time the value of vehicle also depreciates.. best check with local mechanics for a better deal.
