Make sure to get the oil filter changed. Btw, did you follow the run-in instructions on the manual? Forgot what was written there!

2)If it's been above 1500/2000KMs since last oil-change, and if you're noticing rough gear-shifts too, get the oil changed soon. If your bike is been run around 7000kms, check if you're on the stock DENSO spark plug, and if you used any fuel like POWER sometime. If yes, get the plug changed too...to something better like an NGK.

3)Does the engine make excessive metallic noise when compared to other R15s? If yes, get the tappet clearances checked and tightened if necessary(And the SS guys are VERY lazy to do this).

4)Check all the manifold nuts and bolts for looseness, tighten them with a proper torque. Tighten all fairing nuts and bolts too.

      @digislayer

Thanks for the suggestions. here you go:

      1. I have done close to 1000km this month. the total reading is 5900km. feel the roughness for the last 200-300km
      2. Do i still need to get the oil and spark plug checked at this reading.
      3. I am not sure if anyone else faces the same engine sound as i have no friends who has a R15. If you can explain to me how to get the tappet clearances checked, it would be great (still a kid in this)
      4. Tightened all the fairing nuts and bolts.

Also, what i have noticed is that i feel the roughness at a certain rpm per gear change. Would you be able to tell me exactly or rather roughly at what rpm's do you change gear when driving at a normal speed. i change my gear when the rpm touches between 6-7. Is this good or rather bad.

      Cheers,

      V

        Hi Neil,

I had been to Orion motors. Felt they did a decent job but they are very careless when it comes to keeping your bike with a scratch

I am too looking out for a better place where they can take care of the bike the way we do (which i know is not possible)

        Cheers

        • @All, I have a really funny problem. I know the answer is head straight to the SC, but I just wanted to share it with you guys.
I was facing the same loose contact problem with the pilot lamps that someone had reported here. My bike has the Yamaha LED Position lights FYI. I removed the cover, tried to pull the socket alongwith the bulb, but only the socket came out&the LED Position light fell down inside-in the headlight reflector chamber!
I guess the SC guys need to open up the headlight assembly to pull out the bulb now. Will post pics if everything works out fine tomorrow.

Thanks DriftKing, will ask my sis to get it next time she comes here. Need to go to the SC tomorrow to get the pilot lamp thing fixed (see my last post).

I get 40 - 44 no matter what the riding conditions are. City or highway...

1)It's generally normal that we see the engines get a little rough upon usage past 5000kms, so I think it's okay But, how rough is your engine compared to other bikes of similarly run KMs is the question.

2)Maybe your oil'll run about 500 more kms, you can know this depending on your gearshifts. You can use the same oil until you feel the gear shifts get tougher. Check which spark-plug is in your engine, you better get an NGK if it's a Denso that's inside now.

3)Well, you can always ask an xBhpian for this.. Just see if you can find an xBHPian who owns an R15 nearby your locality. or you can even comapre with the test-ride bike of SS(but i'd still say xBHPians are better since test-ride bikes may be used roughly).

Tappet clearance adjustment isn't an easy process. It requires all the front fairings and fuel tank to be removed first. Then, we need to open the top cap of the engine and check the clearances between valves(4 valves in our bike's case). NEVER get it adjusted anywhere outside except the SS. Cos the R15 requires EXACT values of tappets which outside mechanics cannot do, since it's a 4 valve machine.

                        4) I didn't mean fairing nuts and bolts. What I meant were the manifold nuts and bolts. That is, the nuts and bolts on the frame of the bike, including engine foundation ones(the ones which hold the engine to the deltabox frame).
                        Sunny.

                        • hi bikers,

                          just became a xbhpian,
got my red color r15 just a day back
                          so just sharing few thoughts

as we all know the positives of r15 so no point discussing them

i'll start with the negatives or if we call them:

                          1. turning radius is big
havnt ridden a bike bfore so dont know if radius is big in all the bikes
                          2. slight pain in hands after the ride
                          3. uncomfortable back seat (atleast i felt so)

                          that should be it
                          but who cares as ..
I AM GETTING ALL THE STARES,
                          i mean the bike

just wanted some help from all u guys
can we put a lock in my r15?? and from where do i get that??

Hi, Welcome to xBhp and congrats for your R15. Any electronic security system attached to the electronic system of the bike will void the warranty. Although there are a few security systems are available which can be attached to the front wheel and it will have no intact with the R15 battery so I think that should work for you. Obviously that kind of security device is not readily available so you'll have to search it out. goodluck!
ps: update us if you find any.

well, I have run my bike for 70+ KMs after it hit the reserve... 3-4 times so far. Before refilling I could see barely handful amount of fuel in the tank bottom. But then, the bike doesn't even jerk or what ever if I do a 90-100 KMPH at that time and once it included a ride up a slope!

Even I had several instances where the bike was parked in the hot sun for 4-5 hours or from morning to evening but never such a problem.

I have noticed that R15's do open up around the 5-6K KMs mark (including my bike). When the engine opens up the exhause note changes into a deeper one and the initial smothness fades out. Also, this doesn;t happen all of a sudden. It is a slow & gradual process and one might not notice the difference unless compared to another bike.

BTW, NGK works closely with Honda for its mainstream research. Denso is a Toyota group company. Heard in many european forums that so many people there prefer Denso over NGK. So, I guess, the Denso plugs as such are not bad but may be they didn't suit the R15 or a particular batch is bad. For those who don't know, DigiSlayer has experience with two Denso spark plugs in his R15!

Yes, the turning radius is big. Guess the R15 has the largest turning radius among bikes made in India

You need to get used to the riding position. Also, pls use gloves for saftey & comfort

                              Back seat is utterly uncomfortable.

If you say R15's back seat is utterly uncomfortable, what would you say for RTR's pillion seat? I would call it torture!
