update.. : lousy top end...
Guys, few pages back, i mentioned about my bike, unable to reach high speeds.....
As per your valuable responses, today i made 3 speed runs.......
details fallows--///
1. Started flat out....shifted gears at or above 10k rpm..... i managed to reach 125-126 kmph....not more than that.....
i also had my friend on a p220 dtsi, who managed to reach 142 kmph on the same stretch of the road... though he likes to flaunt about his bike..i am unsure whether he reached this speed....
2. This time i only managed 120 cause of slow traffic....
3. For the third run my focus was diverted as I told my friend to race along with me....... while shifting on to second gear, missed it, was on neutral & revved hard....
Later shifted to 4rd gear. while looking on to traffic, forget to shift....red lined the rpm band......
Now i was on 6th gear & managed to hit 129kmph. but braked due to traffic.... This time i was happy that the bike almost reached 130 mark.
* There was a truck ahead of me....when i attained 129 kmph. I thought that due to its wind resistance, i managed to attain more speed. Is this possible?
Should i try the speed run again??? or go to the svc?????
I know this is a long query////..please reply......& help the person in distress.....
thanks...

Remote!!
Got my second service done yesterday at 2900 Km. Got the usual "go for semi-synthetic saar" line from the SC guys and politely declined...gearing is really smooth now...but here's the interesting bit...
The showroom guys convinced some poor sod who had got delivery of a brand new R-15 to go in for a "remote"..& "FZ back tyre"...
I spoke to him before he paid and told him about the battery and tyre issues, but no go...he liked the looks of the FZ tyre and the remote to show off to chicks in his college...
...
they charged him 4k for the remote...
Ironic isn't it, when we do it, its called Share of wallet (SOW) inititives and when its done to us...cheating...

I'll only answer this part, its definitely possible to attain more speed due to a favorable tail wind...but if a truck is ahead of you i dont see how this should make you go faster...Originally posted by Amrit View Post* There was a truck ahead of me....when i attained 129 kmph. Its quite possible that the truck in front clears your path of air to reduce the drag. but it depends on what was your distance from the truck.Originally posted by Amrit View PostGuys, few pages back, i mentioned about my bike, unable to reach high speeds.....

generally this only makes a difference upto say, 20-30 meters considering the truck is also accelarating.
but before going upto the point I mentioned above it would be more understood if you mention your weight , total kms done on the tyre your using and previous service records. .
Yamaha claims 145kmph on the meter with a approx weight of 60kg.
completely tucked behind the front screen i understand that with no wind at all the bike can manage 140+ with weight ranging between 60-64 something kgs.
see if any of this helps you determine what might be the issue.Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

Drafting (aerodynamics)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

An echelon of drafting cyclists
Drafting or slipstreaming is a technique where two vehicles or objects align in a close group reducing the overall effect of drag due to exploiting the lead object's slipstream. Especially when high speeds are involved, drafting can significantly reduce the echelon's average energy expenditure required to maintain a certain speed and can also slightly reduce the energy expenditure of the lead vehicle or object.
Drafting is used to reduce wind resistance and is seen most commonly in bicycle racing, car racing, and speedskating, though drafting is occasionally used even in cross-country skiing and running. Some forms of triathlon allow drafting. Drafting occurs in swimming as well, both in open-water races (occurring in natural bodies of water) and in traditional races in competition pools. In a competition pool, a swimmer may hug the lane line that separates him/her from a swimmer of whom s/he is abaft, thereby taking advantage of the liquid slipstream in the other swimmer's wake.

You havent even finished your run in yet dude! Let the bike live good for atleast 3K KMs... you will be happy beyond that. both in terms of its performance and its durability!Originally posted by Amrit View PostMy bike has done 2200 kms..... Guys, whats the total run-in kms of R15, also I wanted to know the rpm factor being taken into consideration.

^^ company recommended is below 7.5k for the first 1000 kms. But generally ive seen the engine open up properly after 3-4k kms. THats what i felt on my bike and my friend agreed to the same.
