Now what is that chalk marking method ? Could you pls explain ?Originally posted by jd666 View Postalloy wheels are balanced. Infact the ninja parts catalog has part numbers specifically for 5gms, 10 and 20 gm weights.
You can either do em your yourself using the chalk marking method, or take em to the tyre shop, were they have a suitable shaft to fit to their machines, which can accomodate a bike's alloy wheel.
Generally alloys should be balanced after a tyre replacement.

Hey all R15 owners one question. What is the pros and cons of using Regular Fuel and Extra Premium in R15?

but if its the chain squeaking , then it must squeak in all the gears right? the bike runs smoothly in 1st , 2nd , 3rd and 4th gear even at higher rpms. the squeaking starts only in 5th and 6th gears after crossing 4k rpm.Originally posted by svjhonda View Post@ Devil jin- it is definitely the chain squeak. If you're sure it had been properly lubed & cleaned, just do some speed runs. It settles with time.
No use of the speedruns , i have been doing it for over a week . I am planning to ride Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai in 2 weeks . Just want to make sure that my bike is in perfect condition. Please help .sigpic

In a high-compression engine that's designed to run on premium fuel, premium will provide additional power. The AKI (anti-knock index -- also known as "octane rating") of the fuel is an average of two different methods of computing the fuel's ability to resist engine knock. Regular unleaded gas mostly has an anti-knock index of 87, while mid-grade is usually 89, and premium typically is 91 - 93 or more. The higher the number, the more anti-knock protection the fuel offers.Originally posted by Shivanshu View PostHey all R15 owners one question. Manufacturers also claim that they add additives to the premium fuels that help clean the engine.
Using a lower grade of fuel than recommended in a high compression engine will cause a loss of power and fuel economy...
In the R-15, premium fuels will give off more heat than normal..i personally use shell super and i'm quite happy with it...

Hey Shreyas, thanks for the detailed info. I really appreciate it
Sorry I would bug you a bit more now
. Since while touring its not possible to get extra premium fuel always, so would putting a regular fuel make any negative impact on the engine. Also is there any additives which can be used with the regular fuel. If Yes, then how affective is it for the engine?

higher octane of fuel is recommended for the engines having compression ratio more than 11, as YAMAHA R15 runs on 10.4:1 using higher octane petrol will definately help getting the performance the engine intends to churn out.The Magician"

switching the octanes wont affect the engine in any case so dont worry, and stay away from the additives.Originally posted by Shivanshu View PostSince while touring its not possible to get extra premium fuel always, so would putting a regular fuel make any negative impact on the engine. Remove front sprocket... clean and refix it the other way around..... clean the chain well and lube it well as well.. and ofcourse enjoy your trip!Originally posted by !_Devil_Jin_! That is 100% true, but assuming that when the suppliers claim it to be 'special' petrol it is indeed more than 87-91 Octane fuelOriginally posted by Shivanshu View PostHey all R15 owners one question. Welcome, bajaj advocates using Bardahl Petrol Additive which supposedly provides quick superior cleaning action to injectors, carburettors and the induction system (2 & 4 stroke vehicles), Easier Starting, smoother idling etc...Originally posted by Shivanshu View PostHey Shreyas, thanks for the detailed info. I don't know about any yamaha product though, please note I have never used any petrol additive on bikes so cannot comment authoritatively on the same...but have used the 3M petrol tank additive for cars and it does make a small difference, the engine does feels smoother for a few hundred Km's...
Regular fuels on trips will be OK...try not to mix fuels though...

So, Regular Fuel would not have any negative impact on the engine of R15 but using a Premium Fuel would anyways enhance the performance of the engine. And additives unless its official from Yamaha, I would prefer to stay out of it.
Thanks a ton guys
