It depends a lot on rider, i think. Because here i know some guys(2 R15's, 1 220) who ride their bikes in the worst manner possible. They always get mileage around 25 and they never got above 30!!!Originally posted by TnT View Post2009 YAMAHA YZF-R15

Hagn some bikes never milage no matter how properly ridden, or how good the bike condition is. Mine had given a max of 34 Kmpl and a worst of 24 Kmpl( that was 120+ Km of Hard ripping in a track dayOriginally posted by Sarvajit View PostMine is from the 1st lot i.e., July 2008. I have been getting consistently 42-43kmph in city with heavy traffic conditions. The max I have seen is 48kmpl on the highway, under sane cruising in 85-105 kmph range.
Worst in city was 38 kmpl under hard ripping&highway some 34 kmpl under hard ripping.
I think 38-40kmpl is a decent figure to expect from an R15 which has been maintained properly.

Thnx for the inputs guyz... I will surely be able to guide him better on how to go about solving his problem now. And frankly.. i think the stallone/salman comment was uncalled for.. i really dont think the R15 can ever satisfy my riding style/habits. The P220/Zma/R15 are bikes built for a purpose... and you can never talk disrespectfully about any of these.. even if you happen to be posting on a yamaha/Bajaj/HH ownership thread where the threat of getting yelled at is less..Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Tappets adjusted so early? were they loose or you just got them checked? My bike's done 14.5K in 9 months and no loose tappets. Performance is just greatOriginally posted by Amrit View PostMy bike has done 2200 kms..... Recently did the second service....got tappets checked & air filter cleaned..
Dude i weigh 55kgs....reducing weight is out of proportion...
Yeah after having run 5K-6K kms and above the bike runs like a charm, sounds good tooOriginally posted by satyenpoojary View PostYou havent even finished your run in yet dude! Let the bike live good for atleast 3K KMs... you will be happy beyond that. both in terms of its performance and its durability!
Second service, tappet adjustments....

True. I've been at both sides of the spectrum. Best was about 56 kmpl (of painfully slow 40-60kph 6th gear riding, with a couple of short bursts now and then) with exactly 1 litre of fuel in the tank and running till it went dry.Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostHave seen people getting as high as 50KMPL on it with sane riding (KwokFist)
I personally get 35KMPL with not so sane riding....
Btw i get about 35-40kmpl during the daily insane riding. And while touring its normally 42-45kmpl.
These are good enough figures for me! And it has been consistent after the initial 1k kms.

Repeat query
Hey guys
Not got any replies so posting again
Am due for the first paid service this weekend.
1. Any pointers guidances for what i should be checking.
2. Also what is the service i should be paying for/amount i should be paying
3. I am facing vibrations issue in 3rd and 4th gears at RPM above 5k-6k and at 6 gear at above 7k. Is this normal or is there something i should be checking out. They have been there ever since the 5th service actually...
4. On one side, the grill behind the plastic faring is lost (fallen of on trips on bumpy roads)
THanks in advance for the help.

Heehhehehe, I struggled like anything to make mine reach 139kmph-we did this on NH7 which was 4 laned.Originally posted by R-series View PostDont know the actual magazine from where I read it. Cos that was when this bike was launched.
the following link might give you some idea..but for sure.. 83kg down a straight on the R15 at 144kmph on the speedo seems tough.Even crossing 140kmph without favourable wind seems to be difficult. But i wont argue.
The R Gene - Yamaha YZF-R15 - Motorcycle : Overdrive
the first paragraph gives the idea about the top speed.
I am arguing with him to this date how he managed to do it being heavier than me! But he says you should feel happy your bike did it!
My only guess is he redlined all the gears&had some tail wind in favor!
How many kms.done? If you are at around 10-12K kms.get the air filter, oil filter&sparkplug replaced.Originally posted by ronny View PostHey guys

The vibrations could be due to tappets, loose fairing nuts or engine mounting bolts.
Rest is regular, get chain slack adjusted, lube&clean etc.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

The R15 just need road to catch the top end.
Also there are some important factors to be considered. Clean the chain completely and use a good gear oil, complete tucking(can move the butt towards the rear and sleep on the tank with chest as support) before shifting to 6th, make sure you see atleast 9.5 k on tacho. Always keep throttle full open even when shifting gears. Another all important thing what every body misses is tire pressure. More, the less rolling friction. Also if the tire is worn out, due to reduction in circumference on rear tire, the bike will hit the rev limiter early.
I have personally touched 139 with no tail winds.Am a heavy rider too.
More than the weight of the rider, tire pressure plays and imp role.
But i feel, road is not the place to check top speed.Ride safe guys.

Same here, I always checked it on NH7 which is 4 laned, early in the morning. I have done 138-139 tucked in quite a few times, but 140 is evading me somehow...Tyre pressure, servicing, chain slack all perfect. Upshifting also around 9K RPM. Lets see if I can reduce some weight!Originally posted by GP_freak View PostThe R15 just need road to catch the top end.

Lol...shedding weight for reaching top-end!!! I guess you should try out some other road or location.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostSame here, I always checked it on NH7 which is 4 laned, early in the morning. Try declutching a couple of times when you are stuck up at 139. Jack up the pressure a couple of psi in front at rear. Try the conventional lubricants instead of spray types.:-)Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostSame I have done 138-139 tucked in quite a few times, but 140 is evading me somehow... No matter what, never ever think of reducing weight unless your gal tell so.:-) ha ha. Its not worth it man.

Anyways that is not bad speed at all, &I'm not so much into the top end testing.Originally posted by GP_freak View PostTry declutching a couple of times when you are stuck up at 139.
