  • I'm heavy and I managed to get 140 on the speedo, the bike didn't feel really strained getting there either.

    chain should be lubed
    engine warmed up
the clutching and de-clutching before starting helps.
dunno if brand of petrol makes any difference .. just for info I use shell super
and... you should be fully crouched... stick every part of your body into whatever little space you can, become the Humachine! :P

and if u really want inspiration , theres a video of unkitted R15 reaching 150kmph (speedo) on youtube. I think that's by an xBhpian too. But I seem to remember that he is quite light in weight.

The P220/Zma/R15 are bikes built for a purpose... and you can never talk disrespectfully about any of these.. even if you happen to be posting on a yamaha/Bajaj/HH ownership thread where the threat of getting yelled at is less..
the reason i said so is because i know friends who owns pulsar bikes and complains about them all the time. whether you agree or not the quality of yamaha bikes are better than bajaj bikes .even the fazer and fz are priced a tad high and still people go for them instead of bajaj bikes. there should be a reason. you give me a pulsar for free and i wont accept it.i better buy a yamaha for my own cash.YES YAMAHA.
one more thing, now dont tell me to respect bajaj and hh by getting in a yamaha thread. you better post your advices in whatever thread you like ,not here.i remember reading on a magazine that the first few p220s launched had front fork problems and hence bajaj had to get them replaced. this is the best example for poor r&d.

The dealer in Mumbai Excellent Yamaha, Andheri (E) says the blue color has been discontinued. Can anyone from the forum verify if this is true?

Good or bad differs from person to person. It is not defined. What Yamaha gives is good for you but maybe its not good enough for many others. Similarly with Bajaj. There are still more numbers of pulsars on the road than Yamaha's all together Cant deny the data
What im trying to say is that what you said holds true for you and some more, (btw, does for me too) but saying that bajaj produces lesser quality doesn't sound to be right.
Quality is a wide term you used. Spending 1.03 Lakhs on a bike gives you better quality than a 60,000 bike. doesnt mean the 60,000 bike is not good. compared to the money it demands, its obviously good. 10Lakhs for a bikes gives you more quality. the game never ends.
you put more sugar into it...the sweeter it'll taste.
i think in 60,000 Rs bajaj gives out the best thing. but yes...if you compare reliability or performance or maintainance, it becomes a whole new game considering each one of these terms.

Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

            • @akhilmuraleedhar: The fork problem was for the 1st lot of the P200!

              @R-series: Jaisa paisa waisa maal!

@TnT: Buddy, I'm aware of all this&I tried all these things around 1.5 years back when I had first got the bike-just wanted to see how fast it can go. Now I don't have any interest in checking out the top end-all I want is a bike that can cruise at 130 kmph&that is NOT the R15!

                • I weight 55kgs at 5'7 and had topped upto 142 kmph on my red r15, on my elder bro's old blue r15 with same weight on same strech I had managed to touch 145.

Though slightest of wind can make huge diffrence on your speedo at that speeds.

P.S. - Man-o-man! I missed such a damn boiled disscussion on Bajaj vs Yamaha vs Splendour vs Sale's Figure vs After Sales Quality vs Track Tool vs Knee high mud commuter..
                  Can we recap?
I want to jump in that mud high killer disscussion

Just kidding! Lets stick to the Yamaha R15 Ownership Experience.

                  • Spark plug...

whats the make of the spark plug that comes factory-fitted with our R15???
It's mentioned in the service manual that its a NGK CR8E...but in the last service(12K kms) when i asked the sc guys to replace the plug, i found that the old plug wasn't of NGK...it had something like "DENSO U24ESR-N" written over it....the new plug which i put was of NGK though.

                    • problem in r15

                      guys,

a particular sound comes from my bike ( i am not sure from which part) at 5th and 6th gears after 4k rpm.The sound is somewhat like "wheewheeewheewhee" and it comes only when i accelerate. I contacted a IYM dealer , to which he just lubricated the chain . But the sound is still audible. Is there something seriously wrong with my bike? the sound is too loud at higher rpms.

                      cheers.

                      • @chiku - yup it comes with denso instead of NGK.

@devil jin - it could be the chains squeaking.

                        • Uhh, I guess my post wasn't read, and it got chopped off alongwith other OT posts...

I'd asked about alloy wheel weights. I saw a couple of new bikes with wheel weights attached (sort of clamped onto the center ridge of the alloy). They are used to 'balance' the wheels. Anybody else seen new bikes with rim weights?

@ Devil jin- it is definitely the chain squeak. If you're sure it had been properly lubed & cleaned, just do some speed runs. It settles with time.
                          You get the point?? :D

I think its present on the Ninja too! Saw it on xinifi's Ninja's front wheels (didn't check rear wheels).. Thought I'd ask him, but forgot

                            Anyone?

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

                            • alloy wheels are balanced. Infact the ninja parts catalog has part numbers specifically for 5gms, 10 and 20 gm weights.

You can either do em your yourself using the chalk marking method, or take em to the tyre shop, were they have a suitable shaft to fit to their machines, which can accomodate a bike's alloy wheel.

Generally alloys should be balanced after a tyre replacement.
