One Query - my friend is planning to buy a R15, the only thing is he would be buying from his hometown , as all the paper works would be available. Now he was thinking to run-in bike for 500kms in city itself and then ride down to Delhi which is again around 500kms.
1st - is it advisable to do so?
2nd - he was thinking to get the first service done after 500kms only. is it
ok?
3rd - what precautions should he take while taking her in long tours that
also during run - in?
4th - what rpm should he maintain during the long ride? and how many
breaks in between? lets say can I ride her for 2 to 4hrs continously?

During first 500kms the rpm should be below 4-5k and for next 500kms it should not exceed 7k as per manual. Also during run-in period the bike should not be ridden constantly at the same speed.Originally posted by Shivanshu View PostOne Query - my friend is planning to buy a R15, the only thing is he would be buying from his hometown , as all the paper works would be available. Also during run in, its not recommended to ride the bike for more than an hour at strech.......Originally posted by krishkanthr15 View PostDuring first 500kms the rpm should be below 4-5k and for next 500kms it should not exceed 7k as per manual. Answers in bold.Originally posted by Shivanshu View Post1st - is it advisable to do so?
Fine. Just keep the precautions in mind while doing the tour strech.
2nd - he was thinking to get the first service done after 500kms only. is it
ok?
I would advice you to finish the whole run-in and then give it for servicing. Also keep a margin of 50kms, because at times many 5 star yamaha SVC refuse to give the first free service because the bike exceeded the 1k kms limit.
3rd - what precautions should he take while taking her in long tours that
also during run - in?
Its all mentioned in Manual. one should strictly keep the RPM needle below 4.5k for first 500kms, and below 7k for second 500kms! Also, keep variating the RPM every minute. I.e. Dont ride it on the same RPM for too long, just keep the throttle moving and ride on diffrent RPMs, keeping in mind the Run-in RPM limit.
4th - what rpm should he maintain during the long ride? and how many breaks in between? lets say can I ride her for 2 to 4hrs continously?
although new R15 are pre tuned but still avoid riding without breakes. Take a small break every hour or every 60kms. No RPM continuence, as mentioned earlier, keep it fluctuating, ride on 4.5k for few minutes, then come down to 4k for another few minutes, thats it!
Happy Riding, Happier Touring!
