even i did not get the oil filter changed at the first service.I asked the mechanical when he didn't replace it.He told it has to be done after 10k kms.I realized it later after coming home when i read the manual.

Does this really effect the engine a lot??my bike already ran 2k kms.
do i have to replace engine oil again to install new oil filter??
    plss help me with this!!

Don't worry, dude.It wont harm your engine. Just make sure to replace it during your next service/oil-change.

Today I faced a problem which I never heard of. Since I dont know the cause, I am giving out all info.

Bike has done 11k already. Bike is in stock condition and on motul fully sunthetic engine oil. Few days ago, I went for small 400 kms trip for a day. In reserve I had to ride 39 km and after many days I had do discontinue from shell petrol. After coming back I did nt take bike to office for next 5 days. Last 2 days I did around 35 kms. Again 15 odd in reserve(F sign). Usually I park my vehicle outside with cover on. At least 5-6 hrs it faces direct sun. Today around 2 PM when I started the bike, it did not came up! No engine fault light or battery sign. It just refused to come alive. Then I opened the tank for 30 odd secs, as I was suspecting the air has gone in. Then it came up but again died in few secs. It continued for 3-4 times for 10 mins. Finally some how I manage to start.
The idle rpm always rests at 1k rpm.

What could be the prob. guys? Little worried since this is the 1st weired problem I am getting from the bike.

Even i had a somewhat similar experience. My bike is presently dead. My mechanic said its a problem with the ignition block. A part of it, called Kapplar has come loose. Need to get it changed. Have a thorough check-up. I am a bit disappointed with Yamaha.

It doesn't ruin the engine altogether, but its not recommended to use the first oil filter for so long.
Initially when the bike's engine starts up there are some bits and chuncks of metal that break off from the the engine internally, only after few hundred kms. This gets accumulated in the engine oil filter. So its to be changed early. The oil filter's main use is to remove contaminants from engine oil.
Once replaced...the same replacement it is done after 10K kms.
But there is no hitch...I replaced the 2nd oil filter near 12K kms.

          • Hey guys the headlights of my r15 is really annoying me now...
The spread of the light is good but the illumination is very bad. It has become very difficult to travel at night...
I was thinking of replacing the stock headlights with 55/60 W bulbs but the puny 3.5A Battery won't support it for a long a time unless i go for coil rewinding (And i don't want to go for it)...
So is there any other solution to it???
and how long does the battery of out r15 lasts???

            • ^^ a good HID installed properly is the way to go then. Battery should last two years easy.

Its already 2 years and i am feeling that the battery has become weak... will replace it during next servicing.
The HID will be a bit costly for me...Is it advisable to replace only one of the bulbs with 55/60 W one???

                • From what everyone has discussed, at low rpm it will put a lot of strain on the battery.

                  • Guys Some Annoying PRoblem With my New R15

                    HI All,
AS you all know my R15 is pretty new.
The problem is : Sometimes when i am at signal the bike will be in the neutral gear. and as soon as the signal turns green, if i try to shift to the first gear it wouldn't go to First gear. It stays in Neutral, as if that's the last Gear Down, Even if i Tried Hitting the Gear lever hard it wouldn't change. So i had to switch to 2nd gear to get my Bike rolling. this problem does not Occur always but it annoys me very much. So please advice what could be wrong in this? Or it due to any Wrong riding style of mine . My Bike is done only 498 Kms Now .. So should i get worried about it?

                    • ^^ strange, but dont start the bike in 2nd gear. without pressing clutch see if moving the bike a lil bit forward/reverse helps you engage 1st. you can switch off the engine, shift in first, and then start the engine with the clutch pressed.

Also if this issue does not go away at the 1000 kms service, then do raise it immediately with the svc centre.

                      • @TijoJoy, Get your clutch cable adjusted. May be a blip while shifting helps. Pls try that.

Well, first, only 50 KMs in reserve is less. I have done 65+ KMs in reserve a few times but on a highway. Once in City too. 50 KMs with 1.9 Liter of petrol, that is too bad mileage for an R15 - less than 25 KMPL. May be there was some miscalculation!!!

Next, your idle RPM is very low. Set it to 1300 RPM.

A Blip or two shall help you out of a sticky 'box

^^once you start blipping while down-shifting, it becomes addictive(heard it isn't very good for new engine)

                          • Thnaks Guys For the Inputs

                            HI All,
Thanks for the Quick Inputs . i'll try adjusting the Clutch and if it doesn't solve the issue. i may goto the service center. I had the habit of blipping while downshifting (When i was riding my Splendor) but in my R15 i have never done that. i had read that in the Manual.

                            • Hi TijoJoy,

I had the same problem with my new R15 (475kms old). I seemed to have overcome the problem. While downshifting in a red signal, shift slowly and I always bring it down to 1st gear, not neutral. Then switch off the engine and wait for the green signal.

                              It works for me.
