here's a pic of bike on centre stand (permanent fixture) available at yamaha svc for rs.750.
bike actually holds good & looks cool this way.
other stand which i used earlier are similar to rx-100 & rs135 which are temp. fixtures with a bolt that goes through it used only during maintenance/service
ps:the pic is for another purpose but may well serve in this case too.sigpic

The bike is not stable in the center stand due to its front forward weight. I always feel it is nervously standing on the center stand as a small push can roll the bike forward. Whereas, on the side stand we have an option to leave the bike in gear.
I've got the permanent stand fixed & use the it only for service needs.

agreed but haven't faced any problem as yet.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostThe bike is not stable in the center stand due to its front forward weight. Only once when a 120 kg animal sat on it & tried to get down till it came off the stand & tilted forward.sigpic

Yep, changed it this past weekend (28th March)Originally posted by abhimanyu31 View PostHas anyone tried the Shell Advance VSX4 10W-40 oil?
works great. No difference felt when the engine is cool.
The smoothness comes in when its hot
And you'll seriously enjoy it more when it warms up compared to when its cooler
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

No,Originally posted by chiragh View Postdon't you feel using padock stand hurdles with the rear mudguard ?
i feel if you are having a problem the reason is that you are sliding the stand way too forward, just keep it where the chain adjusters are, if you need a pic for reference, let me know, shall post one

Very unbiased&honest words from an owner of both!Originally posted by jd666 View PostWith regards to handling, the Ninja is leagues ahead in terms of in gear acceleration, so cutting ahead of traffic is easy.
Flicking the bike is a different scenario because of the difference in weight. The R15 is more flickable in that regard.
Both bikes are very closely matched if you are riding in heavy traffic. Also the price tag of 3 lakhs vs 1, and cost of spares, etc plays a heavy role in your riding. I will take chances more readily on the R15, than on the ninja. But on the highway or a 2 way road, where i would leave my lane to the opposite lane to overtake, i would overtake 2-3 cars on the ninja, rather than maybe 1-2 cars on the R15.
The manual mentions once in 6K kms., but they do get loose within the first 4K kms.(since we tend to rip after run-in). But later they don't get loose that often. Mine have been adjusted only once till now.Originally posted by rennycornelius View PostEvery 3000-5000 is too early I think, tappets dont call for that much of a frequent adjustments.

thanksOriginally posted by jd666 View Post^^ tappets should be set between the first 2.5-3.5 k kms of the bike. and then on every 3000-5000 kms, or maybe every alternate service for optimum running.
remember the clearance values - 0.10-0.14 for intake and 0.2-0.24 for exhaust.
.. aahh! i wanted to go strictly as per the manual...but the yam service guys tell dont "meddle" with the tappets until "tappet noise is audible".. plus they dont service the bike well in the showroom
... i dunno wher else to give my bike who can handle the bike well... bike has run 17500km already n badly needs a tappet adjustment..will search for a good mechanic n get it done asap.. by the way, can u really feel the improvement in terms of smoothness, mileage and performance when u adjust the tappet?

do this, buy the tappet adjustment tool and yamaha tappet clearance gauge. or just a generic feeler gauge would do. take to it any good mechanic who can set the valve clearance. You will have to open up the tank, remove the connections to the head, unbolt the ignition coil, and keep it aside to access the head. When youve gotten it done once, it becomes a easier job after wards.Originally posted by abhijith.byrappa View Postthanks

The first time i got the tappets adjusted, it took the mech about 1 hour to do the adjustment alone, because i was watching over him like a hawk.. Subsequent adjustments were much quicker, because he learnt how to set two valves together, rather than each one inidvidually.

I got my bike yesterday, I was bit apprehensive about a large change coming from 2 strokes with drum brakes and upright riding style, but all things vanished within 2 minutes of riding, getting used to the gear shift pattern well not a acceleration rush and the sound of exhaust in not too loud, my shogun exhaust note was real earful. The temperature warning light came on and off is it normal, this was in very hot afternoon traffic
White bike looked way better in real life than in the brochures would have opted for that color if I had seen the bike in real, saw some 6 bikes at the dealer
