  • ^^ 5000 rpm is not a shift point for the R15. Take it to 8000+ rpm and we are talking.

The odo has clocked 14,500 as of today and as per my mechanic (the outsider) who sees my bike, says, the bike needs a service as it isn't knife thorough butter any more. The bike went an oil & filter change. Oil is Motul 300V. I myself don't find anything wrong except that carbon deposits have accumulated. I am not riding enough. I was thinking to get serviced post monsoon.

Opened the speedo sensor assembly. One of the pinion needs replacement, else speedo unit is fine, but that damn pinion isn't available anywhere. Seems I have to replace the sensor and maybe the wire too.

@JD666 - Do you face the issue of sluggishness as you too ride the bike less? The throttle response is snatchy at low rpms when engine is cold. Speed 93 is its diet since inception barring an occasion or two.

^^Good SVC is some 200 kms away (round trip) hence the delay.

Nope, Havent felt sluggishness. Though the chain does go for a toss while standing. so clean it for two days with WD-40 ( one application first day, ride. One application second day , ride. ) Then use chain clean and lube.

The funny thing ( touchwood ), is that the battery is 2.5 years old ( as old as the bike ), and the bike still is half self start. But then i do have a habit of starting it for 5-10 mins every week-10 days. Yes there have been periods of neglect in between, but no issues.

Just hit 134 today on the way back from Mathura.. am immensely pleased!!! hehe.

true! but to match a moped, don't you think 8k would be pushing too hard? though it feels at home on those rpms...anyway, that's not the issue..anything on the lag??
after monday and tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!!

what could be causing this "lag"??
Recently another Xbhp member faced a similar issue with Motul in Delhi, with one of the High revving bike and after changing the engine oil the bike was back to old self....Was your oil brownish in color instead of Golden Yellow ?If it is change it and see...

        • Ok i put a tube in my front tyre around 10 days back, because the rim was too bent to repair, the damage was due to the idiot who changed the tyre a few months back. Now in 25 years of driving I have never has a tubed tyre, so this is all new to me, firstly I don't feel safe with the whole idea and secondly when I hit even a small hole or bump in the road i get an uneven feed back from the front end, it kind of has a wobbling feeling, is this normal?

I will probably change the rim, the SVC quoted Rs 2366 for a new one, a bit less than i thought, are there any alternatives?

            • My bike has become really sluggish and lazy and lacks the initial as well as overall pulling power these days. Last service was done at 6232 Km and the current run on the odo is 7688 Km. Will be doing the next service at 8K km mark as would be shifting to fully synthetic and iridium plug. And also i guess the clutch might be the culprit. Currently running on Yamalube and the bike has become hell lot harsh and gives an awful grunt. Does regularly service @8K mark and Motul FS + Iridium plug solve my problem?? Thanks!!
Fun begins only after 6K rpm.....!

There is no lag there.. R15 is best ridden above 6k rpm at all time. I personally go below 6k rpm only when stuck in traffic. Optimal shift point is 7k+ rpm.

And 6th gear at 4k rpm - you are actually hurting the bike.

+1. This bike needs shifts at around 10k rpm for max thrust.

                • ^^ nope, IMO 10k would be pushing it. Good shift points are slightly above the peak torque rpm zone. So that when you shift to a higher gear, you land directly in the peak toque rpm zone. That should ideally give best thrust.

I guess if we are doing a top speed run on this bike, we should shift up very near to the red line. A upshift from 5th to 6th at 10k seemed better to me than at say 8k rpm.

                      • I am thinking of getting a performance chip from DYNO-BOOST PERFORMANCE CHIP YAMAHA YZF-R15 FZ150i | eBay. Is this a good or bad idea? And where can I get this thing installed in the Hyderabad region?

i've already mentioned- "not trying to race anyone around" and 8k or 10k on city roads would be rash considering the extreme engine response in that range..
secondly, i was referring to the sound when the engine is at 4k in 6th gear, not my riding style bro..!!
i hardly ride below 4.5k except in the first 2 gears..

yes it was brownish, at least nowhere near to golden yellow(like cooking oil??)..
what does that imply ?? fake?? but the bike does seem to be smooth overall, atleast compared to the yamalube, i found this better..

Finally changed my stock TATA battery with EXIDE 5 amps. The height of EXIDE was a 0.7" extra yet it fitted perfect in the slot. Pity that the stock TATA green was 3amps one. This was for 3yrs and 2 months since i bought it on june'08 in-spite of HID upgrades. Happy it is now.
