mine too only one is loose.
I don't think its loose in all Bikes. Mine came with one loose to begin with. no prob till now

      • Guys, Any idea on the below video, Is the Gearing set taller??? Or the speedo is faulty or manipulated?

        Ina Stock R15 10,500RPM @ 6th Gear = 150Kph on speedo. But this one does in 9800RPM.

        • ^^ YOu could if you are using the FZ rear sprocket. But then the engine wont really have that much grunt to pull it. I experimented with it. The gearing becomes really tall. Good for highway cruising though.

          • If the bar end weights are loose then you can hold it with your fingers and tighten the screw inside, they are just fibres and I don't think they are heavy enough to reduce handlebar vibrations (which is minimal I think), they are for looks

Thank you JD66 and Saravjit for your reply, My bike is running smoother now

            • ^^ they work... and they are mounted on an internally expanding bracket. Falling is common if not installed properly. I got the accessory ones fitted, and after about a year, the one on the right fell off about two days back.

In case of the former, the speedo sendor would be ok. In the latter, the culprit would be the speedo sensor.

I assume the tachometer is still working fine, isn't it?
It costed about INR 550 when I had to get it replaced about a year ago. My bike was under warranty, so it was a FOC replacement.

True! You can do one thing.
Someone had mentioned that the speedo sensor could act weird due to lack of lubrication (I don't know if it actually needs lubrication)and applying some grease on it might bring it back to life. Do check if you are interested to save INR 600.
                Will get that checked.

                Thanks for help

                • Guys got some good awesome fu**ing news

New Yamaha R15 is to be launched next month. Source :My service Centre Mechanic

They have the training in Pune on 23rd August so that they get trained to service the new R15...So They are confident of the launch in Sept

I asked about the old R15 upgrade..They said they dont have any idea

                  Interesting things ":

Same CC engine but just the ECU revamp
Fat tyre like u saw in the spy pics
                  Larger Wheelbase and different Chassis

So I doubt whether we old R15 owners can upgrade to this

Just had my 4th service done ... the bike is performing fine but i'm experiencing jerks at lower rpm's say in 1st gear below 2k rpm .. and then the bike stalls .
also there's a really loud ticking sound which comes from the right side of the bike . The jerks are experienced in all gears but the bike behaves as usual at higher RPM's . please help me understand why this is happening ...

I had pretty much the same problem yesterday, I took it to the SVC the changed the spark plug cap, which solved the problem, total cost was 106 bucks, the mechanic even lubricated a few parts while he was waiting for replacement part. It's most likely the cap or the plug.

But they are so light, how will they damp the vibrations. I have a spare set of handlebars and those are too heavy for a handle and I think they are heavy enough for reducing the vibrations.
My Libero G5's bar end weights are much more heavy than the R15's and vice versa for the handlebars.

                          • I had given my R15 for service at 13,743 kilometers on 26.3.'11

The odo has clocked 14,500 as of today and as per my mechanic (the outsider) who sees my bike, says, the bike needs a service as it isn't knife thorough butter any more. The bike went an oil & filter change. Oil is Motul 300V. I myself don't find anything wrong except that carbon deposits have accumulated. I am not riding enough. I was thinking to get serviced post monsoon.

Opened the speedo sensor assembly. One of the pinion needs replacement, else speedo unit is fine, but that damn pinion isn't available anywhere. Seems I have to replace the sensor and maybe the wire too.

@JD666 - Do you face the issue of sluggishness as you too ride the bike less? The throttle response is snatchy at low rpms when engine is cold. Speed 93 is its diet since inception barring an occasion or two.

^^Good SVC is some 200 kms away (round trip) hence the delay.

                              • afr??

well, guys, is it only me or is it so that r15's initial pick-up is so bad that even when shifting at ~5k in each gear, it is not before i almost reach the 3rd gear that i can overtake speeding mopeds at the signals? i don't mean i have intentions of racing them off or something, but is it so?

i recently noticed one more thing, acceleration from standstill has drastically degraded..even if i throttle up then leave the clutch to accelerate from standstill, the rpms seem to fall initially as if the engine is out of breath then slowly it comes into action.. the overall in gear acceleration too seems low.. i'm using motul3100 ss, has been there for 2k+ kms now, don't feel it has degraded..gear shifts still pretty smooth..

what could be causing this "lag"??

i suspect the afr has to do something with this..is there any easy way to check the afr w/o the fid?? (the svc here doesn't have it)
one more thing, specially noticeable at 4k rpm in 6th gear, is there a constant hum from the engine?? it has always been there for me..but now-a-days, that hum is noticeable at 4-5k range in 4th, 5th and 6th gears..
is it normal?? what's the sound of?? (i likee that sound though )

Congrats for the new steed, between did you notice that there is a strap under your seat, which when taken out hangs on the side panels and can be used to tie luggage on back seat????

will keep you updated..had tanked up recently from the same station followed by the misfiring issue..will change the place next time and will report...
the problem is that it just happens randomly, so can't say..
can the above issue i mentioned and this be related??

what strap are you talking about?? is it only in the new ones?? mine is the 38B1 series...
