a cold engine can be the reason, and this is normal when the temperature outside is low, is the smoke persistent even while riding? how is it now?
No its not about speed, its about turning and shifting those gears!

          • Is it possible to adjust the height of the rider's foot-pegs? On contacting the SVC, they said " We do not know. Please contact the headquarters". Isn't this a wonderful reply!!? Can anyone help me out?

            • My opinion on the changes in V2 as compared to V1.

Disclaimer/Background: My experience on the V1 has been limited, needless to say I am not a V1 owner, so if some features discussed below are already the pros/cons of the V1 then my apologies. I have ridden the V2(got it delivered in blue on 1st Oct) for around 1450kms, and given below are my observations till date(combination of riding in traffic, cruising on the straights and leaning in the twisties). Wanted to give this street review for quite some time but wanted to get to know the v2 properly before posting and hence the delay. And finally, noted below are my personal opinions, am not a racer/stunter just the average biker next door.

              1. Better Low/Mid Range: Due to changes in gearing 3k to 5k is much more usable, esp. in traffic so lesser gear changes. The bike does not struggle at low rpms now.

              2. Rear Tyre: The 130/70 rear takes slightly longer to warm up, once it does its as good as V1. A peculiar advantage of the wider tire is during offroading/on gravel, etc the bike seems much more stable. Also another advantage of the wider tyre is at the edge of roads/edge of lanes when two different types of road surfaces meet, most of the time there's a difference in height of about an inch or more between these surfaces. If you ride across this gap the bike seems to maintain its composure much better.

              3. Fuel Efficiency: Same as before(Personally was expecting lesser than V1). I have followed the run-in as per the manual except that I changed the oil filter and oil(mineral - Motul 3000 20W40) at 150 and 500 kms on the odo.

              4. Leaning and Flickability: The V2 seems slightly more stable during hard leaning(due to the new swingarm) as compared to V1 but the flickability is reduced(due to the longer wheelbase) although by a small margin.

              5. Riding Posture: I found the riding posture to be more aggressive than V1, this helps to maintain a better position during leaning but I am sure tourers would be slightly disappointed. I felt V1 to be more comfortable.

              6. Rear(Split) Seat: Quite frankly its a single seater. Riding with your better half is definitely more fun but not so with anyone else (thank god I still have my Dio) !! Although I found the rear seat to be more comfortable than a fazer(definitely not as comfortable as the V1) there are however two major problems with the split seats.
              a. Getting on is an issue since the rear foot peg is way higher. Not an issue for lean/medium built guys/girls. In the end I still feel climbing on the rear seat is a little awkward. Once seated it feels like you are in an SUV !!
              b. No grab rails, and since most of us are not used to grabbing the tank while sitting as pillions, you better keep the speeds low depending on the weight of the pillion(this will dramatically increase the chances of you being able to become a father someday ).

              7. Front Brake: Overall I felt the front is much eager to dive on the slightest hint of the front brake. 'Loading the front' as they say is pretty spot on. I believe this is due to the 'front dropped, rear raised' geometry of the V2.

              8. Rear Brake: The larger 220mm rotor translates to much more powerful rear braking, even on hard application 'fish-tailing' is not observed. I dont use the rear brake that often, this is my observation when I tried to do 80-0 stops using only the rear brake. This was done just for testing purpose, please stick to the 70/30 front/rear rule for street braking.

              9. Dual Horn: Its the same as the one on the fazer. It gets you noticed even while cruising at triple digit speeds on the highways. This is a good feature for tourers as many V1 owners experience battery charging issues if they retrofit a larger horn.

              10. Headlights: I was expecting better lighting on the V2 which to my disappointment remains unchanged. Low beam is quite insufficient for highway cruising. High beam is just about enough.

              11. Spares: Definitely not an issue, since many parts are shared with the V1. I got my instrument cluster changed at 1230kms as it had a deep crack. Don't know how it happened but it was replaced under warranty, no questions asked . I enquired about the availability of V2 specific spares(body panels) at kamla yamaha (lower parel) where they have already arrived, the factory shop (malad) said it would take less than a month for them to procure the same.

              12. Overheating Myth: Many V2 owners are complaining that the engine heats quickly in the V2. This is not true, however the reason why people feel the heat is due to the fact that the side fairings are now much longer(by a good 3-4 inches, compared with ketan's r15 which is the 20P1 model). The fairings are much closer to the riders legs than before, this can be an issue for tall riders. Also due to complete redesign of side fairings and the under cowl, the air flow is much better, this again makes the rider 'feel' the heat from the engine in bumper to bumper traffic. No such 'feeling' while cruising. I have personally roamed around with a torch to check whether the radiator fan was activated whenever I 'felt' the heat during the run-in. The radiator fan never kicked in as I allowed the engine to cool naturally for 10-15 mins, every hour of operation.

Summary: Definitely a good buy if you dont already have the V1. If you already have the V1 then I feel that its more worth investing in Joel's mod's than getting the V2.

              Regards,
              Manas.

Better can be mentioned as "changes in ECU mapping"..

The gear ratios aren't changed, just that the ECU mapping has been modified a bit so tht is it more aggressive in lesser rpms as well

                      • @shrinathrao, tibby: Finally rode my bike after about a month-though the accessories are not yet back from powder coat, I got fedup so got the silencer fixed&took out the bike.
She refused to crank up the 1st 2 times&the 3rd time we had to crank for almost 20 secs.&wring the throttle then she slowly came to life. I was fearing the battery is gone, but it was fine in 5 mins. idling.
The rear tyre (newly fitted but not ridden) lost about 22 psi of Nitrogen. Puzzled by this as the bent rim has been repaired. The front tyre lost only 6 psi. Will have to look into this-maybe the new valve pin is defective.
Another awkward thing-the bike was giving out smoke from the side panel gaps&people were staring at us. I knew by the smell that it is the paint (powder coat) on the silencer which is burning, accompanied by a sweet smell of thinner.
Now the smoking has stopped&smell has reduced. The paint has curdled up a bit on the silencer. If this is what happens to powder coat, I wonder whether paint would have actually been able to withstand!
That aside, once Nitrogen was filled, I ripped a bit, saw the ton mark on the speedo&the smile on my face was 1000watts once again-I love this bike!

Along with the changes in ECU, for the V2 primary/secondary reduction ratio = 3.042/3.133
For the 20P1 primary/secondary reduction ratio = 3.042/3.000. So that's the change in 'gearing' that I was referring to(limited to sprocketing).

It does seem like the loss of air from the new rear tyre was due to improper fitting (maybe of the valve pin, like you said). It could also be if the tyre has not been sealed properly to the rim (dipping the tyres in water should confirm).
I'm wondering if the curdling of the powder coating on the silencer was due to having applied a layer thicker than what should have been applied?

This bike is surely a delight man. I had the same wattage smile when I rode it 10 days ago, after a 3 month long interval.

                            Now, waiting for the pics.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Yes, I'll run it a bit to see if it sets. If the pressure is still going down, then next check will be valve pin/rim sealing.

Very much possible, as it was powder coated at 2 shops! I'm not bothering about it as it is only on the inner part of the pipe where it joins to the engine&is visible through the mesh on the RHS fairing. Rest of it is perfect. Even if it flakes off (which it mostly won't), there is one more layer beneath. A little bit of curdled paint is better than a rusting pipe!

Yes-rode it for over 100kms. today itself. This bike has the factor that can make a normal commuter into a biker!
                              Downside is 250s don't appeal.

                              Now, waiting for the pics.
Sure, I'll take some over the weekend&post them in the dedicated 'sticker&graphics' thread! Hope the powder coated accessories are back by then. The foolish painter has painted them ivory white&they look like they fell into cement!
                              Quench my thirst with gasoline!
