my friend own's a P200 , i am asking this question on his behalf
"Yesterday when he got the bike serviced the SC guyz pour in 1300ml of oil(this is first time my friend got oil changed in front of him), now hw argued with SC guyz that normally bikes needs 1000ml of oil so what' the issue with P200"
can you guyz help out!
also the SC guyz pour in 20W40 oil and when he asked them they simply said that itz the oil which is used in all versions of pulsar's.
but i think that 20W50 is the correct oil grade , will 20W40 oil do any damage to engine on speeds pf 60-70kmph.i am askin this becuz he is going to change oil after 500kms as recently he got the bill of almost 1100rs from SC, so you guyz better understand

I think the recommended grade for P200 is 20w50, but not sure. What I'm sure of, is overfilling engine oil will surely cause problems.Originally posted by abhichotu.abhi View Postmy friend own's a P200 , i am asking this question on his behalf

Please remove the exess oil..
I dont actually know if it would damage the engine or not but once in my frnds RTR overpouring had reduced his engine effeciency by a huge grade. Internal damage is still unknown!
He want to go for semi synthetic or minrel?
Lower grade oil damages the engine.
I am currently using 20w50..and engine is doing more than just fine!

A P200/P220/A200 requires 1200 ml of oil for every oil change. The extra 200 ml is due to the oil cooler (some oil always stays in it). The SC guys would have been putting approx 1200 ml or a little more, which is correct.Originally posted by abhichotu.abhi View Postmy friend own's a P200 , i am asking this question on his behalf

Coming to the rating of the oil it is indeed 20W50 but I have reason to believe that Khivraj people in Bangalore were also using 20W40 oil for PBK for a period of time. It's not had any effect on my bike that I can discern but 20W50 is the oil that should be filled as per the manual.200 | 300 | 1200 BOXER

The oil sump of the P200 is 1300ml for a total engine oil replacement, you can refer the P200 manual, the 20W50 is the multi-grading for an engine oil, that has passed the SAE J300 viscosity grade requirement for both 20W and 50. Practically using a 20W40 in place of 20W50 will not affect the bike in any way at all, basically the grading is specific to the manufacturer and changes for different types of oil. For example an semi-synthetic oil has a grade of 15W50 meaning its viscosity is very wide or higher if you may say so, and it is mentioned in the manual that you may opt for a JASO MA+API grading of 20W50 or higher.Originally posted by abhichotu.abhi View Postmy friend own's a P200 , i am asking this question on his behalf

And make sure you don't exceed the specified level of the sump, as the engine oil may damage your engine internals like valves or tappets and may possibly make it leak through the engine panels, which would be a bad thing because then it would ruin your gaskets keeping the gaps between the panels air-tight and the might start leaking oil due to pressure from the excess oil presentI'm too intelligent to the unintended, and too dumb for the obvious.

am i correct?

my friend is going to change the oil too just got the call from him and he asked about good 20w50 oil and i suggested Petronas sprinta mineral oil.
i am too goin to change engine oil of my 180 today to petronas.
i have tried out all sorts of oil(motul 5100 semi, motul mineral, valvoline, shell mineral, petronas mineral(best results)) on my P180 and mine friends P200 and found petronas to be the best in performance(didnot experienced much improvement with motul 5100t) and VFM

Please help
My bike has done close to 20k, but somehow i am not very confident of riding it.I had 3 minor accidents on this bike..All because of the front brake..Whenever i gain some confidence, i get into some sort of minor accident and i loose my confidence again.
Till now, Only in proper roads i am able to ride this bike confidently(highway kinda roads..)..but whenever i find a road with small gravels, potholes or wet roads...i always feel i might fall at any moment.
I also ride fiero and never felt like this in that bike.
Very recently,i was travelling at 30km and suddenly cycle guy came in before me..i tried to brake but bike skidded and i fell down (before that got my groin got hit in the tank
) ). Thanks to the non-existent rear brakes. It was quite embarassing for me to fall even though speed is around 30kms..in normal dry roads i usually ride it fast but all other roads i drive it very cautiosly.
Why i am feeling nervous while riding this bike in wet, gravel roads and not in other small bikes like fiero or even activa?
Is there any defect in my bike or my driving technique w.r.t 200 is at fault?
Please help me with all your valuable experience and advice.

Dude, good that u've posted what u've felt which will enable us to give our inputs for ur riding technique. First of all P-200 is a very good machine and it's coming from a mouth which has driven it for the past 2 years and just had one bad crash that is because of some drunk fools on the road. Yes, the rear brake is kind of non existent in all the bikes as far as i've seen given proper engine braking and front braking there ur rear brake comes to life. The thing is that there is a thin line between braking and locking up the rear wheel or the front wheel, that thin line can be mastered only after vigorous riding. I myself have locked up the rear wheel couple of times engaged with engine braking but some how managed to put a stop to the bike's speed but never ended up in locking the front wheel. I've just come from a 300-400 kms trip to ooty and bandhipur and the roads are as wet as ever which includes red soil spillings on the road which is as slippery as driving in slush itself and still managed to do some 50's and 60's without any problems and with engine braking. All that i can tell u is don't lose hope u can master the techniques easily if u have the confidence and never lose it.
And Btw. Welcome to X-BHP!Whenever there is a Rainbow in the sky, I know it's u mastering the art of Cornering. U will always be remembered brother, R.I.P Arun.

@abhichotu.abhi: No need to remove the 100ml.of oil. As EL LOCO DIABLO says, if 1300ml.is the total qty.then it is ok. In my Fiero F2 also I recently filled 1100ml. Generally 100ml.less is filled at every oil change (eg.1 litre refill even though total capacity is 1100ml.), coz the entire qty.can only be filled when the engine is opened up. No need to worry about that-if he had filled 2-300ml.extra it would have caused problems.
Coming to the right grade of engine oil, since the company recommended grade is 20w50, he can either go for the same mineral grade, or 15w50 synthetic/semi-synth will also be fine. 10w40 or 20w40 will not suit IMO, reasons mentioned in Engine Oils thread by Sandeep K Ram.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

I once used 20W40 mineral oil on my bike, wasn't very different but the bike did have a bit of a gruff note, but going by my previous post 20W40 is a slightly lesser grade oil though i'm realising this only nowI'm too intelligent to the unintended, and too dumb for the obvious.

Well from what i could read and understand from your post above i've tried to give a few suggestions:Originally posted by Fierodasan View PostMy bike has done close to 20k, but somehow i am not very confident of riding it.I had 3 minor accidents on this bike..All because of the front brake..Whenever i gain some confidence, i get into some sort of minor accident and i loose my confidence again.

Please help me with all your valuable experience and advice.
1. Always remember that under braking the weight of the bike and the rider shifts to the front, the front therefore has a lesser chance of locking than the rear which has it's weight shifting to the front offering reduced rolling resistance
2. Try increasing your braking distance and bring your bike to a stop as smoothly as possible,
3. Do this at different speeds keeping the braking distance constant,
4. Slowly decrease your braking distance and then again try braking smoothly to a stop.
5. Concentrate on your front brake, give it priority above the rear, because you are more prone to lose the rear under emergency braking.
6. Try braking at different levels, meaning use play of your lever at different levels to adjust your braking, while decelerating/braking.
7. Bring down a gear appropriately whenever you are slowing down, a bike is more responsive at its correctly matched gear/speed.
8. Use the clutch minimally, never ride the clutch or coast with the gear engaged as it is difficult to control a free moving wheel.
9. Try not to grab the brakes, ease into the brakes progressively but firmly, this will not only help you not lock your wheels but also won't surprise you (Like it does when it smashes you nuts in)
10. Always be ready to brake, and when the need arises brake early, the many people i see on the road really test their luck by braking very late. Rossi brakes late because that's what he is paid to do and he does it where he can, we can't afford to do stuff like that because you can't trust the guy behind you to have a god-like reflex or the bike that can brake the earth to a halt.Last edited by EL LOCO DIABLO; 11-11-2009, 09:16 PM.I'm too intelligent to the unintended, and too dumb for the obvious.

i am happy now with itz performance.
i got to know today that the oil SC guyz were using from my 1st service in my and mine friend P200 was 20W40.Originally posted by EL LOCO DIABLO View PostI once used 20W40 mineral oil on my bike, wasn't very different but the bike did have a bit of a gruff note, but going by my previous post 20W40 is a slightly lesser grade oil though i'm realising this only now
so as soon as i switched to petronas this time i saw a huge improvwement
