Let me relate this to the P200's pathetic rear brakes.

As most of you 200 owners know the pathetic condition of the rear brakes on the P200. A 5kg heavier Avenger can brake better with the same 130mm drums. There is a theory behind this. Try using a really long screw driver to unscrew and try the same with a short screw driver. You know that you need much lesser effort to get it out with the longer screwdriver. This is probably why the Avenger brakes better with the same drums.(Owing to the larger wheelbase and the front positioned pedals resulting in a long connection rod between the foot and the drum).

But I dont care. Is there any possible way to improve the rear brakes on the 200? (Damn ,I loved the rear brakes of the 1.5 times heavier Machismo I rode yesterday) Even a neat disc assembly will do the job. But is it even possible? has anyone done it? Your comments and insight will be appreciated.
yup we all know the prob with the rear locking and if its on the wet... you couldnt possibly do a better tailskid with any other bike ;D

but i dont know if anyone has got discs installed at the rear. some have said its not advisable to get it done.

btw... i just got the Blackcat alarm system installed on the bike, and its really working good. No more headaches of battery being stolen

Er.... I am totally n00b at this, and so forgive me if I'm completely ga-ga about what I'm saying, but wouldn't you have a greater chance of locking up your rear on discs?
That apart, I've seen several normal pulsars with rear discs on them. Apart from the 220s I mean. But I've not yet seen a 200 with rear discs.

          • Thanks Aryan for the merge.I thought it was better to put it in a general discussion thread so that I see other owners of bikes also giving their perspective on improving drum brake performance. Here we would be seeing mostly 200 owners come by.

Can more of you guys out there give us your perspective? The worst rear brakes compared to any other indian bike. I remember riding a platina in villages of coimbatore and damn that thing braked so fine. Guys, some substantial method to do something about this.

Well, here's another question - how come you use your back brakes so much? I'm so used to my front brake, I literally forget that I have brakes for the rear wheel sometimes.

About braking, keep it simple....use front always! The rear brake is just an accompaniment. Incase you are judging that using the front alone will not slow you down enough, gently use the rear to provide slight amounts of additional braking.

But do keep in mind that you might still be able to control if the rear locks, but god save you if the front locks....its all about the fine line!!!

My God! Just 16km/litre? Are you sure? I think the air/fuel mixture has been tampered with. Do get that checked and get the machine tuned ASAP!

                        • Hi, I got a new P200 last month. The guy from the bajaj service centre told me not to go beyond 50kph until the first servicing. This really sucks as everybody who has more than 50cc is going ahed of me and giving me weird faces after looking at my bike. Is it really necessary to maintain this speed limit till the first servicing?????

i dont have a problem with the rear brake locking in any sense. I have a problem with its weakness. Think about decelerating with a pillion from 70. Or think about decelerating hard from 85+. The rear brakes play a huge role in these cases. Moreover its not a sports bike where i could survive with only the front brakes. The rear brakes play a huge role on Indian bikes.
And I know the world of a difference the 220 is from the 200 inspite of them using identical front brakes.

Just because of Mr.xyz is looking at you and your machine weirdly doesn't give you any reason to just speed up. Moreover, my personal opinion would be to take it easy for atleast the first 1000 kilometres if not more.

Heck, I have done 5000+kms. on my three months old P-200 and even now I ride her sedately, hardly gowing above 65km/hr. I love the look on other people's faces anyways!
