Engine oil
Hi all !!I have a question regarding Engine oil. If my bike usage is very less say for example only 300km/month,then how often should i change oil? in other words normally engine oil lasts more than 2000km and considering my usage of 0nly 300km/month,is it safe for engine to change oil every six months? I have already finished my running in period as well as first 4 services and has done 5.5k,so considering my usage how often to change oil?

It only depends on what type of engine oil is being used in your bike.. mineral oil is good for about 2500kms.. semi-synthetic can do 3000 to 3500kms.. and if you are using synthetic oil then it could go upto 5000kms, but for Twister I don't think you need to use synthetic oil !!Originally posted by sachin1111 View PostHi all !!I have a question regarding Engine oil. see,i am not taking of oil change in terms of Kilometers covered but about period oil change regardless of distance covered.Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostIt only depends on what type of engine oil is being used in your bike.. mineral oil is good for about 2500kms.. semi-synthetic can do 3000 to 3500kms.. and if you are using synthetic oil then it could go upto 5000kms, but for Twister I don't think you need to use synthetic oil !!
something like expiry date of mineral oil without any or very little usage.similar to medicene & tablets.

They recommend not to keep the same oil in your engine for more than six months , it shall spoil by oxidation and deposit sludge . In my personal opinion , given our elevated pollution and hot-climate ,if the oil has been used for more than 1000 km , then change within four months . If it is fresh and not used much then change in eight months max . For you , I think four months is max @ 300km/month . better safe than sorry .Originally posted by sachin1111 View Postsee,i am not taking of oil change in terms of Kilometers covered but about period oil change regardless of distance covered.

Engine oils do have shelf life and expiry dates , but that is no longer relevant once it has been poured into the engine . It goes bad much quicker once used in the engine . Even petrol goes stale if kept too long inside the tank/carb/lines
.
p.s - when I phoned the authorised honda parts stockist in kolkata , they said 200 Rs for 10w30 honda oil , so I guess it's gone up ?Last edited by Pinaki; 03-13-2011, 02:11 AM.

Battery issues
initial problem .... low RPM no horn... on high rpm horn works
now the electric starter dose not work ... checked the voltages 14.5+
gave the battery for charging ..... the horn is not working without battery i used to think it ran on alternator as service guys told me but seems to work on battery ???
will post in 3 hrs if the situation is improved by charging the bike for horn else i am looking for alternate for it too
will report if any improvements in electric starter
3A battry is not available in market guys say it will take 8 days to get new one.. and this is excid's first try on sealed battery for bikes that to 3 A i am completing my 12 months 15800 Kms odo

twister has a DC voltage set up.Only the main headlight works on alternator. If you turn on Ignition key and dont start the engine, then you will see that horn, turn lights, brake lights, are working.this is because they run on battery,i.e DC set up. where as Alternator runs only when engine is running hence headlight lights up only when engine is running.Originally posted by blackcatasus View Postinitial problem .... low RPM no horn... on high rpm horn works

best way to enhance battery life is not to allow it to drain too low.If you keep battery in discharged condition,it will loose its remaining life very fast.and as we know battery loosing its life means the capacity to hold charge is further going down. since its only 3Ahr capacity,it will get drained faster.I think horn sound is a good indicator to know that voltage is dropping.personally i avoid using frequent self start as much as possible for same reason, and my bike always starts on single kick start.I am also completing one year on twister by next month end & I too have noticed some drop in horn sound level.looks like it is slowly loosing life but i guess it will work for another year.
Any idea how these battery are charged after removing from bike?Last edited by sachin1111; 03-19-2011, 12:41 PM.

Arrey dude get it to a local mech. and ask him to tighten the screws of the horn after explaning the problem to him. It takes 5 mins to repair this problem. I had it too that's why. Give it a try.Originally posted by blackcatasus View Postinitial problem .... low RPM no horn... on high rpm horn works

Horror, are you talking about the screw which is at the center of horn? I just had a look at Horn from outside, there are few screws around the outer circle of horn and one screw is at center of horn.Originally posted by Horror View PostArrey dude get it to a local mech. and ask him to tighten the screws of the horn after explaning the problem to him. Hi all. This is my first post in this forum. I have been following this forum for about six months, when I first decided to get my first motorbike. This particular thread (and my budget constraints) affected my choice of bike, and I got a Twister about 5 months back. I have clocked about 3400 KMs on it till date.
Though this might be a bit redundant, I would like to post my experience with the bike.
Pros:
1. Light carb weight. Newbies like me (and few of my friends who learnt riding on my bike) feel very much in control of the bike at all time.
2. Good fuel efficiency. I ride to my office everyday (about 20 KMs from home), half of the road is in city, and other half is an expressway. After break-in and 3rd service, I get 60-65 KMPL if I ride without concern to mileage (sudden acceleration, braking), and 70-72 KMPL if I ride mileage-consciously.
Cons:
1. Road Grip. The flimsy rear tire offers enough traction in normal conditions, but when I ride in rain, it feels a little under confident.
2. Lack of helmet lock. OK, I know a factory fitted helmet lock exists under the seat, but frankly, if you pardon my french, its a little pain in the a** to open the seat every time to lock the helmet.
Wish List:
I wish the bike had a digital console. For the price we have to pay for the premium model (self-disk), a digi console would have been nice. Maybe a full DC setup could also have been thrown in the package.
Riding experience:
This being my first bike, I do not have much comparison to make, but the bike feels very smooth, almost vibe free (except at 80-85 KMPH), and pretty stable. However, if you have got a strong wind blowing, and you are on the highway, it's a different ball game.
One problem I face from the first day is that the gear sometime slips from 3rd Gear to 2nd Gear. I asked the service center guys to fix it on second service, and they told me they have done so. The problem is less frequent now, but it is still there. One more hitch was once my headlight indicator (Blue one in console) stopped working, but the service center guys fixed it promptly.
So thats it guys. There you have my opinion about Honda CB Twister.
P.S. Hey did I mention that despite a few shortcomings, I love my bike? :-)Never be afraid to slow down. sigpic

good one
welcome to Twister forum. Agree with your experience.mileage you are getting is normal, most people get similar KMPL.Twister is a perfect bike for beginners, believe it or not,i learned riding bike in just 3 days on twister all alone.I think they could have provided digital console but it seems the battery capacity is quite low(only 3Ahr) to support digital console.
whats been the worst mileage ever you got?for me worst mileage was 52kmpl when i used it in heavy traffic with many start stops and sometimes stuck in traffic jams.Last edited by sachin1111; 04-16-2011, 01:24 AM.

hi sachin. the worst mileage I got is 55 KMPL, in similar conditions as yours. after that, I became quite mileage conscious and ride carefully. BTW, I am planning a trip on my bike for about 200X2 = 400 KMS. do you think twister would be able to do 200 KMS in one stretch?Originally posted by sachin1111 View Postwelcome to Twister forum. Hi All,
Been long since i posted here, my twister (11 months old) is doing 23k on the odo, and i use it 85% on the city roads,
with a mileage of 63+ (checked in jan), couple of issues with my bike,
* Chain Sprocket!!!! - Started to make hell lot of noise! the authorised service centre guy knows nothin to do except tighten the chain & lube it,
and ask me to go for a new sprocket set.
* Rear tyre is not at its best, i feel the bike not gripping the road as it used to do earlier, have any of u changed the tyre. If yes which make????
And yeah i used it for a long trip couple of weeks back like 280kms in about 5 hrs and 30 mins. the bike is just great,
still rocking after almost a year of use, and the maintenace costs hav hardly been a trouble!
