  • Yes , perfect find ... those vintage Ambermatics shoot over 500$ apiece in perfect condition when you get them on ebay ( I've been on the bid for a few there ) ... they are greatly sought after by pro rifle-shooters and hunters & outdoorsmen worldwide . They are photochromatic too .. turning a deeper brown in the sun . Unfortunately you'll get them in vintage only ( and fakes abound ) , B&L has stopped making them long ago ... infact B&L doesn't make RayBay glasses anymore , they've sold off that business line to Luxottica group (Italy) in the late 80's . So all current Raybans are not glass but polymer lense embossed RB on the lense . I have an original(1970s) US air-force issue glass lense G-15 rayban ( the one I wear in my profile pic ) etched BL on the glass edge . No other markings on lense . US air-force (mil-spec) prohibits the familiar white rayban markings on lense for fear of interference with vision during a crucial maneuver . Grt for me , everyone thinks it's a knock-off and it hasn't got stolen like the last one I had .
Serengeti drivers are currently in production ( I got two ) .. within 100-200$ .. and exceptionally good for driving (they are contrast enhancing amber too) . Once you use one while riding/driving .. you'll get addicted . Mucho better than the G-15 grey-green Rayban I have atleast until I bag an ambermatic within 200$ some lucky lucky day . Read these customer feedbacks on Amazon here .... http://www.amazon.com/Serengeti-Avia.../dp/B000R2YYT4
The only Rayban made currently for driving ( good really ) is their B-15 Brown lense ones . Sorry for the OT .

      • Sorry for not being clear . B-15 is not a model number , it is a B&L lens type . By Rayban parlance , B stands for the colour Brown ( like their G-15 is for Grey ) and 15 is for the transmission properties of the lens , i.e 15% transmit .. it blocks 85% visible light as well as the full UV spectrum . You'll find many Rayban models with the B-15 lens .. visit the Rayban showroom and talk to a knowledgeable salesman . Beware that 15% transmitting lenses are for clear days , not too well for cloudy conditions or twilight .

        • Small Experiment with Tyre Pressures....

          Hi All,

I want you guys to do a small favour for me. An experiment with tyre pressures vis-a-vis the performance of rear shocks... Does it vary in any way??

Someone suggested that sticking to 25-29 combination as suggested by owners-manual should give a comfortable ride. I've been using this for past 850 kms now. But recently, changed to 25-41 recommended pressure for rider+pillion and have been riding alone.

I'd like to confirm my findings with you guys before letting out the results

Request, the regular users of 25-29 combo to switch to 25-41 and vice versa. And please let me know how she behaves. Softer ride or Stiffer ride in comparison?? Which one is more comfortable??? Try this out only for single rider (with pillion you have to stick to 25-41) and share your results...

There have been some discussions about helmets and eye-wear in recent past. My experiences... Since I have numbered-glasses, eyewear is out of question and full-helmet becomes more messy-time-comsuming, hence prefer half ones.

Have used Studds & Ergo (don't remember the models) in past. Currently using Vega Eclipse since last 1-1/2 years. Very close fitting and comfortable.

For visor, I've been cleaning it with regular polish that I use for motorcycles (WAXPol / Robert's). No disco-lights or glares on the 1-1/2 year old visor... even in night I use it with no problems. There are few scratches but does not hinder visiblility.

Planning for a long ride in coming days as I'm nearing 1000kms and have been pushing it to 80kmph in recent past. Will keep you posted about the ride and other details. Meanwhile, if you could help with the 'little experiment' I'd really appreciate your contribution

          Warm regards,
          Ride Safe,
          Abu
ps: RixBHP thanks for your anwser for my previous query... and yep, I love your signature... Love the ride, not the destination...

          • I always keep near the recommended "with pillion rider" pressures in the tyres at all times partly because it feels better for me and partly in the faint hope that some cute thing may thumb me for a ride on the way .

            • @abu,I have not checked with pillion.my experience as a single rider with 25/29 pressure is that 25/29 pressure provides good combination of ride and comfort, but only for few days.problem is after 10-15 days pressure drops by about 3 psi thus the pressure is around 22/26 pressure.at this pressure you can feel lower pick up and mileage will also go down slightly.for this reason I then decided to experiment with 28/35 pressure.i felt this pressure is ideal combination as you do not compromise on pickup & mileage and lasts me for a month.only difference is the vibration level is comparatively bit high because tyre does not absorb as much road shocks as it used to do below 30psi and mild road shocks is transmitted to handlebar.during my last fill a young service boy filled too much air by mistake. It was showing 35/45 on gauge which is much higher then recommended.i continued riding at this excess air,at this pressure when compared to 28/35 i did not feel difference in terms of ride handling and comfort.for last 2 months i have not filled any air and now it has dropped to 25/35. which means air is dropping at the rate of 5psi every month.
my conclusion is,there is no difference when pressure is in range of 35-41 psi for rear Tyre.but i can feel difference when riding on bad roads with pressure below 29 psi. If the road is smooth there is hardly any difference in range of 30-41 psi for rear.and yes as pinaki said,i feel more confident riding at higher air pressure as tyre seems to grip better.

                • Hi, Yesterday after the 5th service I checked the top speed. I could touch 110kmphr on the highway. Could it be a speedo error? I could never go beyond 100 in the past.

Considering you have maintained the bike well, Mileage mostly depends on riding conditions and your how you ride, for me it used be 66-67kmpl when new,now after one year it has dropped to 60-62. But thing to note is,I used to drive very carefully at that time due to running in period.but now i don't care much,i think that's the reason for mileage drop.If i drive the same way as during running in then i still get close to what i used get when new.my only disappointment is that there is no change in mileage right from 1st service to 4th service.

I think there is some error in speedo.True speed is checked using instrument like V-box.According to Overdrive magazine Twister true top speed is 94km/hr.
I have reached only 95km/hr on speedo on a straight road.wish i could reach 100

Earlier the needle used to be steady in between 90 and 100. I had to crouch to make it go beyond 100. Now without crouching it reaches at 110. May be a high speedo error. You can cross 100 by crouching on to the petrol tank. But try it only in the empty highway.

we will always be with team Anna. Here are some facts which speaks of corruption.
1)In india even jet fuel is cheaper than petrol we use in bikes.
2)our government buys oil from gulf countries for under Rs 30/lit and after applying all sort of taxes and looting sold at 65 Rs/lit,and finally the petrol pump dealers do their job of giving adulterated and less fuel.I think we should have a system of self service of filling petrol as done in western countries.
3)our neighbor countries like Nepal, Bangladesh & pak have much cheaper fuel prices then India.

                            • Just asking out of curiosity. There is a switch near the choke to put the Engine to 'OFF' 'ON' and 'Reserve' Right..What will Happen If we keep it to the 'ON' position And dont use the bike say for a Week!??. I always forget To put it to the off position when im not using it.

                              • If you keep fuel cock ON for weeks without use, then carburetor is likely to get flooded with fuel and then this excess fuel will start leaking from a black drain pipe that connects the carb and goes down near side stand.also the bike will refuse to start easily. This has already happened to one of the member here.someone has already posted the pics of leaking fuel in previous pages.
