now i want to experiment with other brands for engine oil. i will stick to 20W40 grade mineral oil but there are many options in same grade these days.

my requirements are smoothness and mileage same as or more than Honda oil and more revv friendly and responsive engine. in short i would like to have more performance while retaining smoothness and mileage. small compromise on mileage will be ok but smoothness is important for me.

all suggestions are welcome! also advice about from when should i start using semi synthetic and then synthetic oil?

My honest advice for you is to stay with Honda 20w40 oil. Its cheap and reliable. Other oils are not any better than Honda oil. Stay away from Castrol, its the worst engine oil of all.

i have only 9 months of motorcycle ownership experience .... but i have crossed 19000kms... i never ever used other oils...but this time i changed to castrol ( i couldn't get honda oil when i change it)... and found it smoother than honda oil.....so i suggested...sorry dont know more about oils...... but one thing is sure it gives me very smooth performance... when i used honda oil i like to stay at a steady speed of 70 km/hr.. with a feeling that going beyond that will stress my engine... but now i can stay at 80 km/hrs with same stress that felt at 70 km/hr.......

        • Probably you are referring about swaying of bike in a snake fashion when you hit bad roads. The steering cone set needs to be adjusted or it needs replacement. It will cost you 500 bucks.

If you feel your bike is doing good, go ahead and use it. It will not cause your bike any problem.

I and many of my friends used and never were satisfied with it.

              thanks for your quick reply
i think this arises when i apply too much of front brake.... i usually use more front brake than back.......... because it tends to skid... i still don't how to apply back brake on high speeds.... i really forget to apply back brake when there is an emergency.......

                • ^^maybe it was a duplicate as we all know there are lots of fake castrol oil running in the market. Actually original castrol power1 15w40 is a pretty decent oil for dazzler. But castrol activ 20w40 is very average, better to stay away from it. Btw. the new honda oe engine oils are coming in 10w30 grade only instead of the earlier 20w40. Not good for summer use.

                  • i wanted to use other oil because honda OEM oil is mineral only and i want to try semi synthetic and fully synthetic. many people suggested same in other thread named 'engine oils'. thank you all for suggesting and sharing your opinions.

after reading all this and bit of research, i have decided to try Shell advance AX7 semi synthetic for next oil change. will see how it performance and goes with my bike. if it disappoints, i will revert back to honda.

                    • ^^ I have used this shell ax7 in my dazzler & was pretty satisfied with the results. You will defiantly experience better performance with it.

Can you please share your experience of Shell AX7 for Dazzler? How is it in terms of power, mileage and mainly smoothness when compared to Honda Oil? Any significant changes?

I used castrol for two years in my Splendor and many times in other Honda bikes. I bought them only from the castrol distributor. Castrol oil degrades faster and bike becomes rough very soon. I prefer Castrol the least. On Castrol Power one, castrol never prints the specifications too.

Semi-synthetics and Synthetics don't make much difference for a Honda engine unless you rip all the time. Synthetics are too costly and waste of money (in my opinion).

Its a psychological feeling that when you use other brand oil the bike feels smoother. When you change old oil, engine definitely feels smoother with new oil.

Other good brands of engine oils with good specifications are Shell, Elf Motogold, Valvoline, Mobil, and Sprinta. Sprinta 5000 is a fully synthetic and is cheaper compared to other fully synthetic brands.

Being a lighter/thinner oil, engine revs more freely, slight increase in mileage. This oil holds good on long distance high speed runs also. So a better overall performance. Lasted for 2k kms
Btw. I wont prefer to use this AX7 oil in summers. Currently better go for a 20w40 oil like motul 3000 plus. You may try this AX7 10w40 in winters.

                                +1
After using wide variety of oils (including FS) I concluded this - 'There is no substitute to a fresh engine oil'. Instead of using synthetic oils for longer intervals its better to use a good mineral oil(or semi synthetic under harsh riding conditions) & change it more frequently.
