82k kms on a pulsar and still going strong?
ok, firstly check for any oil leaks from the sump or from a loose drain nut. but the engine really has aged well, and now there will invariably be excess friction due to worn out piston rings and clinder head. its only a matter of time before you're gonna need a rebore and new pistons, etc.

even a normal mineral engine oil can survive for 2k kms leave alone motul 300v which people use it for upto 8k kms...
i use semi synth power1 and change it every 3k kms...which is perfect no probs at all
dude if u donno dont speak n dont confuse others
Oh really man???? May be the join date or post can be too low here but dude I am riding since last 8yrs....nd i think I hav an idea about the bike mechanism.....m not greasemonkey at all but.....to do a tour of 3 or 4 days of bike I think one shud knw at least sumthing abt bikes.....U got ur baby when...is it from bajaj??? Then I assure you if you listen those buddies you will end up your bike nd money for nothin but just for their sake. Try a good mechanic there and then speak it out.....
I am too using power 1 nd my 1K comes after every 3 weeks.....so i hav to chng it within 1200-1500.....i meet a number of mechnic in KOL, saw them saying the same....

Even I have a P150 classic. So, I know a thing or two about maintaining a bike. When you change oil after 1k kms, do you find that it has deteriorated enough to need replacement?

Ya....I find it in a condition after 1200-1500kms...it must be changed.....one of my elder brother in our group has a pulsar 150 UG3 running at 67K, just imagine....he always maintained wat I said in the previous post.....we actually tour a lot and avg speed is maintained 75 to 85......but that is not the thing I am saying...if oyu maintain it.....you will really get a good back up for your engine.....the engine part's life will be increased........really....

Well, I have tried changing at 1000 kms too. My experience was different. And in any case, manufacturers themselves recommend much longer drain intervals. Hence, IMO changing oil at 1000 kms is a waste of money. Let us see if other members have to say any different.

changing oil early is good for ur bike but it is nothing but a waste of money as aashish said
semi synth doesn't even change color for 1000 kms

do u feel engine rough ness after 1000 kms that makes u to change oil...??

and u believe those mechanics who think no one else in world knows as much as they do

what all i can say u is
              mineral 2000kms
              semisynth 2800
              synth 4000
are the drain periods in normal riding conditions

              • Guys we must all remember here that we all ride bike at an vry diff way & style ,there is a lot of diff depending upon the weather conditions also. So, people like to keep it smoother as early as possible and some change the oil at an certain interval.
As , we go according to company claims, vry less of us really ride as per complany's claims.
So, changing oil is always as issue. What I think abt the interval period for an oil change should totally depend on the performance expected from ur engine. If ur r riding on a tour definately ,oil must be changed vry early, but city riding will again effect the type of OIL used in the bike.

1500-2000 kms or 150 days is perfectly fine for Pulsar 's. I keep that arnd 1800-2000kms and yes with Active4T. Power1 is too costly & semi-synthetic,that is smooth but dries up early as bike is ridden at higher speed evry now & then.
My bike is now over 52500kms and already chaged the head section(valves, piston). Vry soon I'll go for Stage-II change-over i.e crank, timing chains replacements including 2nd clutch set.
But currently bike running fine with me rarely going anything near top speed. BUt yes I use lt of engine braking thats gives me high speed braking on cost of clutch, but its entertaining especially in Pulsar's.

                • Hello every one,,
Guyz, i yesterday went to fix the puncture in the rear tyre of my bike(pulsar150dtsi/2005 model) the thing is like this dat after fitting my rear tyre some 'chhan chhan' kinda noise started coming from the bikes rear wen pitched on rough or potholes,,i thought some nuts were loose but it was all well, then decided 2 show 2 a mech, he examined the vehicle and knocked the silencer a little hard with his hand and thats where the noise came from, he said its just some 'patras' making those noise 2 occur, which according 2 him was not a worry as its bound 2 happen in all bikes after a long period of time ,,
Well, the thing which is bugging me is that all was well before fixing the puncture then how did dis alien noise entered my bike.
P.S. - the noise coming is of low frequency(though audible) jus like consider taking a single ball bearing in a tin box n shaking it ,, only occurs wen on a rough patch of roads ,,
Looking forward for some expert advice..........

I'll surely check out for the point no.1 & 3 as mentioned by u. Point no.2 has been earlier checked by me and its nicely tightened,, but how come this same noise erupts while we hit the silencer only( with hand, while bike on a standstill) ,,has a small stone or something entered in it .. Its just the way i think

going further on this topic, I recently did an engine overhaul.. reason (engine gone due to engine oil dried up after 2K KM).. And I generally go on tours everyweekend.. and rip the bike to top speed..

has been constantly checking engine oil levels since then.. recently saw, after 1000 KM ride, engine oil level dropped a bit. it was power1.. thinking of changing oil, as it is first time after engine overhaul..

suggest a good and value for money engine oil, which i can change every 1500-2000 KM and supports heavy ripping for 500KM+ ride in one day ..

will try synthetic on next oil change, but this time, confused..

as mentioned above as well, power1 is not cheap and dries up early..

Any Castrol oil does not suit my P150 at all. I use Valvoline. Found it to be very good. Have heard Gulf is good too. Don't know about fully synth. (They are a little out of my budget!)
