Yes Zeit. I too feel that many times. Also showed it to mechanic but he says it's fine.

What I observed is if you let the bike get warm after slow riding of 15-20 minutes then it won't make grunt noise.

Once is gets sufficiently warm, the grunt goes away totally. Last week I rode bike continuously 70-90 and it was super smooth.

Don't forget to give choke for 15-20 seconds on 1st start.

Thanks Motomonster!
I'm soon buying that car shampoo, and chain cleaner, lubricant.
3M or Motul is recommended? Can we get SAE 80/90 gear oil in market for lubrication? SAE 80/90 is given in manual.

Hi guys, I tried adjusting the valve clearances in my Unicorn 160 yesterday. The DIY thread on hunk/extreme by BloggingWheels applies to our bikes too apart from some minor differences. So I'll just give some important points on how to go about it instead of giving the entire procedure.

First, I suggest doing it after 12 hrs of using the bike, so that the engine is bone cold. Also keep a rag handy as your hands can get oily.

Tools-
1. 12mm T-handle spanner for tank removal.

2. Socket plug to open the inspection holes (try to avoid Allen keys)

3. 17/19mm T-handle spanner (flywheel rotation, but not sure which size as I didn't have it)

4. Size 8 T-handle spanner for opening the head and timing chain cover

5. Feeler gauge. This is very important.

6. Tappet adjustment tool (Got it for Rs30 at Raja Tools, JC Road, Bengaluru).

7. 10mm ring spanner for loosening lock nut

NOTES:

1. The engine head is held by 4 bolts instead of the 2 diagonal bolts in the hunk/extreme.

2. We need to open the timing chain cover to see the 2 lines and the circular mark on the timing chain sprocket (A triangular cover on the left side held by 3 bolts).

3. I do not know how to remove the Hornet's tank since I have a Unicorn 160 which has a single metallic tank. But we need to remove the tank to get easy access to the head.

4. I set the exhaust clearance to 0.20mm as suggested by sibun da (manual states 0.24mm). But the tik tik sound got very loud[emoji23]. Setting the exhaust to 0.15mm removed the sound completely, but YMMV.

5. Be patient while setting the gap using feeler gauge. It takes some tries. Having a tappet adjustment tool helps a lot.

6. The T mark on the flywheel is a little hard to spot. Once you find the T mark and align it to the mark on the inspection hole, pull slightly on the tappet screws and check for slight free play on both inlet and exhaust. This ensures that it is in the compression stroke.

7. Don't tighten or loosen lock nut too much.

8. Rotate flywheel only in anticlockwise direction. As given in the DIY thread on hunk/extreme, if you don't have the tool, then put the bike in 5th gear, remove spark plug and rotate the rear wheel in anticlockwise direction and observe for T mark.

9. Be careful with the head gasket.

10. The tank has 4 connections- fuel pipe, fuel level sensor, and 2 breather tubes (which weren't even connected in my case). Remember to put the petcock in off position.

I consider it a success, though I discovered something I never expected. Once I set the clearances, I put back everything (or so I thought). I started the bike and enjoyed the sound, only to see that I forgot to put back the timing chain cover. Next came the shock. The sprocket seemed like it was bent/not aligned, as it "wobbled" while rotating [emoji15]. Will get it fixed soon.

Thanks to BloggingWheels, ashwinprakas for their help through their DIY threads and sibun da for encouraging the DIY as well as putting up with my multiple (irritating) phone calls.

And finally, sorry for the boring long post.

When my Bike Engine Gets Heat up, I feel there is Piston or Chain Jerk on my bike in the first gear. This is the same jerk when you maintain low speed on your bike and your on the top gears and the engine gives you the jerk. Am feeling the same issue on the 1st gear and have marked 3 to 4 times, but am still confused is it the chain or engine piston jerk.

Normally facing this issue when the bike engine gets heated up.

Hi guys I just bought a Honda hornet CBS version about a week back. I have completed around 500kms on it.

Initially when I upshift to 5th gear the gears wasn't meshing properly and I gave the bike to vijaya Honda SVC, chennai.

They replaced the gear shift return spring and that problem was eliminated but now the gearbox is harder during downshifts and sometimes doesn't shift at all. This especially happens when shifting down from 3rd to 2nd.

I took it back to them and they told it is shifting normally only.

What should I do?

I too faced like this kind of problems on initial run in period time, from 3th to 4th gear there is some harness before the 1st service, but now its better than before.. all hornet users have this issue.

My Hornet covered 6800 Km with in 5 month. Luckily I got Kerala's first Hornet on 23rd December 2015 from EVM Honda Kochi. Done some short trips on it . Longest route was my place ( Kurianad in Kottayam ) to Idukki (wagamon - Kattappana - Cheruthony - Kanjikkuzhy - Vannappuaram-Thodupuzh -Kurianad ).Total 249 Km . I am getting 52-54 Km/Ltr, excellent for 160 CC bike. I dislike bike's electricals like absence of EKS, poor head light beam , horn etc. Paint quality and switch gears are not good. Plastic quality also require some improvement.
Braking is excellent on my CBS model. Digital meter console needs some individuality, taken straight from Unicorn 160.

P220's horn perhaps? I've heard about Roots but some of their horns are louder than the limit set by the governments.

How much would the P220 horn cost (both low and high) or is it a single piece? it is compatible with 160R's battery setup?
slow down.

Hi guys! I am considering buying hornet. Earlier I had an Apache 160 FI and rode it for 40000 kms. The bike would be used for purely city commuting. How do you guys find the performance in regular city usage and what sort of mileage are u getting? I am fine with 40+.Now coming to the most important question - CBS or non CBS variant? Budget is not a constraint for getting CBS. How is the availability of CBS variant (any waiting period)? Apologies for such a long question.

• Engine is running hard and producing vibrations

Hi Folks,

I have given my Hornet to first service 10 days ago and after fist service I am observing below problems.

1) Mileage dropped from >=52 to <=42 in city ( first fuel line blink to blink). Never checked highway mileage.
2) While starting the bike, guzzle kind of sound coming along with engine regular sound.
3) In 30 to 40 speed itself, lot of vibration in right foot pad. Due to which I am getting numbness in right leg.
4) Jerks are coming in lower gears, especially in second and third gear.
5) Pickup dropped completely and engine running hard like grinder.(not with regular sound).

Can any one help what could be the wrong?. Planning to visit service center once.
