Ballast is a small device through which your HID's electricals go
im quoting a definition from another site
"Numac" seems to be a decent brand that provides 1 year warranty, costs around 3k for a single bulb...i dont know about any other brands(apart from brands such as Philips etc)that provide warranty.
Here comes from the horse's mouth Hows ur HID cannon? Where's the pics?

Nice update Ranjith, apart from Numak you can try Auto guage which is easily available in almost all accessory shops as Numak is recently introduced and not much guys are dealing with that. Of course Philips but cost factor pulls me back.

Add to this, a projection beam is the best lighting system in terms of precision in beam focus as well as spread. There will not be any scattering of stray lights from the projection area. Like others said, it lacks performance in high beam compared to reflectors as the shield is not opening fully and hence the output is limited to 60-70%.

my setup is jst too good finally im always game for night rides! but only regret is that my HID's are 6k..coz its got a blueishness to it..and hence gets a bits lost.

A very detailed post. Thanks doc. But the thing is I may be getting the Yamaha R15. Now where do I put the round reflector there? There is simply no scope, hence my query.

I asked about the Fabia setup coz it is factory fitted projector lo+hi setup. It uses a h3 halogen and has a shutter infront of the bulb to achieve lo/hi beam. From the various net reviews, hi beam is said to be good, low beam a little poor as half of the light is blocked by the shutter. I am thinking of getting this projector. What do you say?

@sajjt - I am expecting a reply from your side too!

          • I have a doubt...what if we keep a single beam proj. upside down or remove the shield in it,will it be good for high beam?if that's the case then for bikes with twin headlights can have this set up for high beam and a normal single beam proj as low?

Dont have much details about this car, not even ridden too. Not sure about Fabia is using a H3 bulb. Normally a Bi xen projector uses a H1/H7/D2S. H3 mostly uses for fog lamps as its filament orientation is transverse where as other types filament orientations are axial which offers best beam spread. One thing is sure its a bi xen projector. And the beam spread should be sufficient else they wont depend on bi xen projector on a premium hatch.

Anyways, getting a fabia projector from the junk yards is a tough job, also R1 is having dual headlamps then u need 2 projectors. Buying a new set is a costly affair, single beam Laura HL assy will cost approx 35K + taxes so considering Skoda's aggressive pricing u can expect the same range here too. I would say u can buy
a pair aftermarket HID projectors for less than 10K and save the money.

Ahm..... at last ready for the road show. I can understand the satisfaction once u finish the DIY. Good work too. BTW, why did u removed the reflector and not having the AE? AE will give u a finished look, now its like a naked style, or being with a naked bike, u want it to be like that?

Would love to see that in action, call me for a demo on any day after 6PM.

Its like a high power search light with no focus and get ready to recieve enough welcome notes from the on comers

Here's the schematic for a better understanding:

The shroud needs some cutting to be done and the AE is fixed on to tht...
but now im starting to like the naked proj. look and im happy with the devils eye! so i might use some heat resistant tape and close of the gaps through which light is escaping without sacrificing ventilation! hope i can get it done!
a bit busy these days...but will sure give you a call!

hmmm...but if the rider is sensible and uses the high beam sensibly..this isn't a bad option! :P

buy those Led modules /strips and fix them in the inside of the fairing and connect them to the pilot lamp power source . i think that member was rubber stamp champ

                      @abhijeet -
get the Fx-r bi xenon projectors . for 8500 you can get them with hids and they are the best bi xenons available . these are D2S type ones . cheaper ones can be had for 6k with hids .

Can you elaborate on "Fx-r"? Is it a brand name?

@sajjt - My aim was to look in the junkyard!

Anyways, any idea on what setup to go for in case of a faired bike like the R15? I will be using HIDs.
