Re: Let there be Light : Bike Lighting, HID etc
Hi All,
My Name is Sudip and i am from Bangalore. Guys i need help in resolving the low light for my Yamaha SZR bike. the Headlight is a very poor in the city and highway.
All this while i was not using my bike to go to office but from next month onwards i need to go to office everyday as the company is stopping bus service. therefore i need some help in resolving the low lighting issue for my bike.
The monsoon has already arrived in Bangalore, its very difficult to see the road as nothing is visible due to the poor light.
I have already gone to the SVC and also tried to change the focus but that hardly helps (Though its little Better than before but not good when the road is wet). the reflector is also new as my bike is only 1.5yrs old and its shining like new. the bulb also is fine as the SVC guy checked and told that the stock bulb is absolutely fine and no need to change it. But then, they are good for nothing idiots. they hardly have any idea about the lights.
Guys i was thinking of putting a HID for my Bike and my Budget is Max 3k. I can afford that much.
therefore guys (anyone from Bangalore) if you know whom to catch hold of to get this issue resolved then it will be great.
Please help me guys as i need to get this issue fixed fast. Guys from Bangalore will know how those idiot cabbies will be flashing high beams all the time and how difficult it makes for Bikers to ride in these hostile conditions.

Projector is just a lens.Originally posted by MAD BIKER View PostHi guys!I was looking for projectors for my CBR and all i found were these chinese low quality ones.I dont think they are reliable.Any idea where i can get reliable good quality ones?
For good quality HID's. look in Philips.
Starts from 5 - 5.5k to 10k for a single bulb.

1. First look whether you bike need 35W or 55W bulb
2. For HID, you'll need a Projector too. With projector its like pointing someone with a high voltage torch direct in eyes and make them blind for some seconds.
Cops will catch you.
3. You cantry the Philips Extreme or Osram Night Break bulb. They don't need any projector. Just plug & play and they claim 80-90% more light than stock.
Google & search their website.
4. Get 2 fog light kind of thing attached to your led / crash guards. (Gonna be under 1500-2000rs)
5. See whether you'r battery and charging coil can take HID or not. Else it irritates more & a headache thing if it starts draining battery.
6. Try your searching luck in 2nd hand market or Chor-Bazaar (Theft items markets) kind of thing & see if you can get Pulsar 220's Projector for cheap for anywhere.
Good Luck.First I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

Re: Let there be Light : Bike Lighting, HID etc
Hi Sird
Thanks a lot for the reply.
i have put my comments below marked in Bold.
1. First look whether you bike need 35W or 55W bulb--- my bike has a stock bulb of 35w. so i guess 35w will do.
2. For HID, you'll need a Projector too. With projector its like pointing someone with a high voltage torch direct in eyes and make them blind for some seconds.
Cops will catch you. ------ Ok if i go without Projectors then will it be helpfull as i dont want to do all kind of modifications to the Headlight section as i dont know a good mechanic and moreover it will require more money and time, which is little difficult for me to arrange. i just want a HID which i can plug it directly without any modifications to the headlight Unit.
3. You cantry the Philips Extreme or Osram Night Break bulb. They don't need any projector. Just plug & play and they claim 80-90% more light than stock.
Google & search their website.------- I have Searched the website of both the companies but then those products are listed for Cars. do they fit in to Bikes and do they come in 35w. if not then what is the highest watt i can put as my bike has a 5amp Battery. Do you also know will they fit without any modifications.
4. Get 2 fog light kind of thing attached to your led / crash guards. (Gonna be under 1500-2000rs)------ I dont know how this is going to help. Do fog lights have that much of power in them and do they help in improving the visibility at night when it rains. Also will it put extra load on the Battery.
5. See whether you'r battery and charging coil can take HID or not. Else it irritates more & a headache thing if it starts draining battery.----- I dont have any idea to check this. do i need to go to a mechanic and if so, what i need to check. any advise on this.
6. Try your searching luck in 2nd hand market or Chor-Bazaar (Theft items markets) kind of thing & see if you can get Pulsar 220's Projector for cheap for anywhere. --------- This one is out of the Picture as it wont look good at all and then it will be the same (Doing modifications to the Headlight Unit which i dont like to do).
Thanks

Re: Let there be Light : Bike Lighting, HID etc
1. 35W hmmm.
Then go for 4300K or 5000k max.
Because 35W is already low wattage.
2. Any cop will show you a hand to stop by when he see the bright white light is too shiny shiny among others. I heard in Banglore, cops are a bit strict. When they can check helmets for ISI, probably they will charge you for HID.
You said your budget is 3k ?
HID and its ballast (its must with HID) costs near 1100-1300.
And projector + HID + Ballast set are easy available at 2300-2700rs with fitting included or excluded !
Projectors are a long term investment.
As its a lens, you can change the inside bulb anytime.
And if you don't want projector anyhow.
Get ye Hid + ballast for 1200-1300rs and as your light housing is big, I don't think you'll have a heating problem.
3. You have to go to some shops and look for the desired type of bulb your bike is using.
See your bike manual and Cheka whether its using a H7, H4 type of bulb and then ask the shop keeper for that type of bulb in 35W.
You have to google around for getting the info that either your battery can handle the HID on stock or need some coil mod.
If you don't find your bike's details. Look for other bike with same 35w setup + same battery.
This all is needed from regretting and getting into useless headache later on.
After spending cash it feels so frustrating when even the stock light is no more to help in night.
