No one could teach you tuning carburetor by pictures or even a video. That's because you will have to practice this art and then only the perfection will come by.Originally posted by andy118 View Posthow to get carb tuned properly...means to get both perfectly??? milage and performance..if anybody could show it with pictures ...i will be more happy...because i want to know it by myself..

Have a look at this.Originally posted by andy118 View Postbut as a begineer, tell me something i could start with...
How To Tune Your Motorcycle For Performance and Fuel Efficiency
Be patient and careful while tuning the screw. slowly turn it (1/4 rotations) at time and do it until engine rpm stays constant. I have done it few days back n got the exact point. First of all note the factory setting before tuning it. I tried it more than 10 times in two months and got the point now. Now it seems to be simple. And finally dont touch the carb if its running fine

Our pulsars have mikuni carbs that states its a fuel screw which turned in gives lean and turned out gives rich..
Can anybody confirm that pulsars have this fuel screw and not air screw? or is it that different bikes has different versions?
because when i turn the screw anti-clockwise it gives a lean mixture ,WHITE spots with a brown dots on the carb....-------------------------------

mine too vibrates above 7-8 K RPMOriginally posted by abhichotu.abhi View PostGo to Hell Bajaj!
The lock-dial is making irritating sound at each rpm above 3K. The sound is like the same one which comes when in a kick-start bike we kick when the bike is ON. (krrrrr or kirrrr or as you imagine)
@lockhrt: Help!
either you can put some thick sticky used oil between black dial and lock or you can stuck something outside black dial.
I'm not sure whether this black dial is made up of plastic or iron.

@caesar
Yes, The pulsar's have the fuel screw. Bajaj officially calls it the VC screw (vc = volume control).
White with brown spots? Did you make these observations after a short (say 5 minute) test ride? I can assume that the brown spots are a sign of the heavier mixture as opposed to the white (which i think should be more like a lighter grey) which was there previously. Not sure, just guessing.
In my observation, this method of testing the mixture is somewhat ineffective. My spark plugs did not show any noticeable change in the usable range of the screw settings (anywhere after 2.5, 3 turns uptil 4.5 turns). In fact, I was reading the service manual of the UGIII and Bajaj officially mentions that usable range to be 2.5 +- 2 . 2.5 turns being the leanest that the engine would run on, I ASSUME.
Moreover, I read somewhere that sparkplug colors dont take an unhealthy shade when the bike is new (<5000kms).

Yes u can confirm this wit pulsar workshop manual. It says as volume screw means amount of fuel to be controlled. If turned in(clockwise) gives lean mixture. I hav never checked spark plug color as it is too tight to remove.
This could even help you.

(<5000kms).
it is not exactly bown ..its like sandy color ..but percentage of white matter is greater ...

^ this could be the reason why you don't see any signs on the carb...my bike has clocked 11000Kms ..-------------------------------

Good find there...
you dont have to remove the spark plug;you can check it directly,it should be visible if there is a residue.-------------------------------

@all:
Please donot try the 'Plug and Play' method on your new bikes. As some of the members here are fiddling with the carburetor settings on their own and waiting to see the correct one. Instead try the 'carburetor training' on any of the old bikes, like one that is owned by your father.
@lockhrt: Thanks.
will try that out.
