When I reutrned now, the engine noise is increased and it sounds as if screws are loose inside it. A little search later, I understand its the tappet making that noise.

I have done 820 kms, first service done. Is it too soon to get a tappet adjustment?
New bikes does makes tappet noise, in occasional cases. Get the tappets adjusted at the 2nd service or ask a mechanic before to confirm if there is a tappet noise or not.

      • Guys, could you confirm me whether putting in a 60/50W bulb like Osram Nightbreaker or Philips Xtreme (something) require any modifications? Is it a strain on the battery if fitted in the stock configuration?

        • @vd17:

I have tried it a couple of times on my bike and did'nt face any issues. But, another member 'Pulsarized' tried it on his bike and he faced issues of battery draining on his bike. So, you will have to try and test yourself.

                ----------
                Be clear,first..its vague

                1. if you're riding on 5th gear, suddenly you took your hands off the throttle, then gain you want to accelerate : in this case you should downshift to 4,3, or 2nd gear depending on your speed

                2. if it is a slope then you should use engine braking, stop accelerating the bike, downshift to 2nd or 3rd depending on the inclination use rear brake to stabilize your bike

                  +1 to the answers..
Point 2 - It is always advised to go down a slope in Gear (2nd or 3rd) and not keeping clutch pressed or on neutral.

                  • update from me: finally changed lampshade but at cost of 250 (lampshade) + 150 ( substandard labor). 'Headlight shaking' is still there but about 80% less.
                    Kinda feel cheated
anyway I think they have tighten front disk brake(they took it off during replacement of lampshade) because bike feels a little heavy sometimes and after some raining it started screeching.
Is there anyway to loose( or to adjust) front disk assembly at home?.

                    • Man, Bajaj should REAAAALLLLYYY keep a tab on their svc's.
So the mechanics did adjust my bike's tappets and the engine noise considerably lower now. However, they played around with the carb as well (since I told em it had trouble starting in the mornings).
I got a mileage of 37 last time around, as opposed to 51 prior to it. I am still in the run-in phase so barely cross 60 (have clocked 1020kms).
Is it wise to turn the screw in (the way it gets more lean) ourselves or shall I take it to them?
Also, whats the RPMs when you guys start? Mine in the morning is around 900 (sometimes, the needle goes to zero while the engine is still on) while after warming up, its around 1250-1300. Should I increase it or is this ok? I let it run at idle for 2-3 mins in the morning before the first rev to 3K-4K rpms.

                      • ^^^Your idling is okay...mine is same and may be that's why it was giving good average.
DON'T ever fiddle with AFR screw by yourself. Most of the times one messes up the AFR instead of optimizing it. And remember that this thing is not undo-able.

                        • there is a DIY separate thread.. how to tune your bike.. search for it on XBHP..

                          • Yeah, I've read that DIY thread. Thats why I asked.

This AFR setting has always been somewhat off in my bike, from what I reckon. When it was new, mornings would be miserable. Everytime I told them, they just took a screw driver and rotated it outwards, not bothering to retune the carb from zero.
am thinking of taking it to a Castrol bike zone to have the carb tuned from scratch. These bajaj jerks just want to get done with the work ASAP.
And lockhrt, what did you mean by its not undo-able? I mean the AFR can be corrected by anyone who knows how to, right?

Get the carburetor re-tuned by Bajaj SC only. And how did you come to know whether the carburetor is properly tuned or not? Any signs of engine overheating, not going above 8K? or stuck at a particular speed at full throttle?

P.S: Try talking to the head-mechanic of Bajaj SC. he would be the best person to do this job.

                              • Yeah, the engine was heating pretty bad even after a 5-minute ride. In the mornings, it'd be trouble some to start since the bike kept stalling for the first few minutes. Moreover, the mileage figures. The DIY mentioned that too lean a mixture is way harmful than a heavier mixture so I asked them to check it. Thats when they screwed it up. Now it's too heavy cause he didn't tune it but just turned the screw by his own estimation. And how do i know its screwed right now? 32k/l after riding mostly under 60.

And yeah, I'll take it to a diff SVC this time.
