  • Hi,
I have P180 UG3 model. Around 20K kms my bike started drinking oil in the range of 75ml/1k km. Slowly the consumption increased to 200ml/1k km but no smoke whats so ever. The engine vibrates bad due to the piston gap. Finally I decided to replace the block. Unfortunately I could not find UG3 block in SVC. I have no option to rebore. I have lots of doubts on reboring. Finally reboring has done on a cnc machine replaced with .25 oversize Mahle piston. Head word is also done with new valves. Total cost involved is Rs 1800 incl labour. I am very happy with the engine, very smooth. Planing to do run-in atleast 1500 kms. Mahle is much superior than Sam piston in my opinion. I will come to know whether its successful or not only after 5k kms.
How long do we need to run-in a rebored block?

    • Update on my varying RPM issue:

So, the SVC centre finally saw the problem. Reached there and left the bike to cool down for 10 minutes and the problem was in their faces.

The carb is faulty and it will be replaced. Unsurprisingly, as I've heard this is a common occurence with Bajaj SVC's, a new carb is out of stock. Replacement next week.

Glad to know that finally you managed to show them the problem.

it fluctuates... that's kinda normal... unless it always stays at zero bars.

              • I have called almost every authorized Bajaj spare and service shop - around 15 in total. And NONE of them have the carb that goes into the 180UG4 - DJ 1210 41.

Amazing, really. It's almost as if their supply chain system is rigged to make my life miserable.

The SC people use to keep only those things that are needed in the normal service of a bike, like brake-pads,....... things. Carburetor is very rare tobe kept for any bike (but still they have got to keep a single piece atleast), as one would set you back by 4-5K INR.

Yeah, guess so. Finally got hold of one SVC. They have it. But he said they'll not be able to do it since they don't have the service records for my bike and only my regular SVC centre should do it. He asked me to try and get them to buy it from theirs. This chap was pretty helpful. I have heard quite a bit about this SVC centre but its too far from my work/office otheriwse i'd have gotten my work done from there itself.

BTW, the new carb costs 2200. I might just give up and buy it if they continue annoying me.

                    • I have a pulsar UG 4 which has done 3000kms and there is a tapping/knocking sound coming from inside the engine(i think so) particularliy when its accelerating.Even in 5th gear at 60 kms and if i give the throttle other than the engine sound there is a different knocking tapping sound coming from inside the engine it seems. This tapping/knocking sound has been there since i got the bike and i thought it might disappear after i finish with the run in period but it is still there.Any means to solve this?

At 3000kms you have already finished the run-in period. I could'nt understand the sound you are talking about. Brief more on it..

the sound is LIKE the knocking sound you get when you ride at low speeds in high gear but of lesser intensity.
It happens like i said even while giving the throttle at 60 KMPH in 5th gear.Btw this knocking kinda sounds happens while accelerating in 3rd gear till 5th gear and it disappears after crossing 6k RPM in the gears mentioned.

This sound comes from my bike too. Disappears at higher speeds, not exactly tappet sound. I thought its present in the older UG3 engines only, surprised to find in later versions.
So any ideas what could be the reason?

Knocking, right? From what i can gather, you're running a bit too lean. This happened to me when I tuned by carb and it was too lean. Does accelerating from slower speed on higher gear make that more prominent? If so, it definitely is the carb.

BTW, Didn't they fix this in the first service?
