It happens like i said even while giving the throttle at 60 KMPH in 5th gear.Btw this knocking kinda sounds happens while accelerating in 3rd gear till 5th gear and it disappears after crossing 6k RPM in the gears mentioned.
Read the spark plug.If the center electrode is white you are running lean,if it is dark, then either rich mix or,oil in chamber....chocolate brown is the ideal color. In your case most probably it will be white indicating lean AFR.
Once you had read the spark plug take necessary action.

BTW, Didn't they fix this in the first service?

Happens exactly as you said, accelerating from higher gear makes it more prominent and my mileage is kind of on the high side, 45+.Is there any problem to the bike if its running lean because i am happy with the mileage it is giving me right now and no they did not fix it in the first service.

      • @drvmtm:

That's a nice list of extra-features of your bike. You are one of the few old Pulsar owners who have have proved that Pulsars are more or not reliable, easily moddable. Thums-up.

BTW, any tips for improving the UG4 headlight. I mean it is fully DC what is the simplest method to go? And also please differentiate between the dimensions 'Guage' and 'mm', how are the 2 different. Because when I ask about a particular guage wire the auto-electrician tells he only knows mm dimensions?

Yeah. In the longer run, any mixture that is not optimum (too lean or too heavy) harms the engine. Search for a thread on carb tuning on the forum - that explains a lot of the workings. I think the title is "Performance tuning for CV carburettor". By the way, I'd advice you not to tune the engine yourself because more often than not, it just gets messed up.
Take it to the service centre and show them the knocking yourself. It'll just take a minor adjustment from what I can tell.

          • I got my P180 serviced at Amba Bajaj (HSR Layout - Bangalore) around 2 months back. After the crappy service the bike started having a weird problem. In the 1st gear it would jerk violently during cold start in the morning. Once put into higher gears it disappears. I'm definitely not going back to Amba. Can someone suggest me a good workshop (could be a authorised Bajaj or independent workshop) where most xBhpians would be going.

I too got the same sound from front shocks, but it was due to lack of oil in the shocks that the SC guys poured when I asked them to change it.

I'm also experiencing this sound . So, is the sound stopped after pouring the oil in shocks Abhi?

Yep! sound gone now. But, if you have not changed the shock-oil and still getting the sound, then probably the issue is different. In your case, cause could be a faulty or loose 'Cone-set'.

Ok Abhi. Thanks . I will check with the SC guys.

BTW I have got another problem with the chain, which I'm posting in detail next.

                          • Chain Sound with vibration in left footrest (gear).

I'm experiencing a strange problem in my P180UG4 with the chain, especially after the 3rd service done at 8500kms. That is I hear a 'kirchhh kirchhh' sound from the chain in equal intervals with a strong vibration in the left footrest (whenever I hear the sound it vibrates). I have taken back the bike to the SC guy. After inspecting the chain he told me that the chain is very tight and he adjusted the same and asked me to try again. I did and the problem was still there but with little less noise and vibration. Then he opened the box just above the gear and sprayed some oil and asked me to ride it for 1-2 days and see whether the problem continues. Sad that it continues still even after a week. So 3rd time I have gone to SC last Saturday and the guy asked me to come after two days as they are busy with existing jobs. He want to completely check the chain, sprocket, etc. The sound and vibration are high in speeds over 70km/h. Also when I press the clutch to slow down, there is no sound, but the vibration in the left footrest is huge.

I feel like there are some rings/pitches of the chain are damaged and whenever they touch the front sprocket, it makes noise and vibration. I'm not sure . Worried.

I'm concerned that is this a major problem? Do I need to change the Chain with new one? Continue riding the bike with this problem will cause any issue with the engine? I ride 60Kms daily (to and fro from the office). So, please advise.

There are few points I would like to tell:

                              1) All the open chains do make noise, it's no issue.

                              2) If the chain is too tight than it will cause vibrations on the left foot rest and a feeling of tightness while riding the bike.

                              3) If you donot lube the chain than also it will produce excessive noise and vibrations. That's sure! Also while lubing the chain, lube the particular area at which each link is joined with the other, i.e. donot lube the rollers, instead lube the outer boundary of the chain.

                              4) Clean your chain every 1000-1500kms (in rains more frequently), this way you will be only increasing the life of chain, and the noise and vibrations will be reduced to a significant level.

The chain problem you are facing might be due to any of the above reasons. It will not cause any problems to engine. If the problem is more severe, than try and post the pictures of your bike's chain, it will help the guys here in figuring the cause.

Thanks for the prompt reply Abhi . Glad to hear that it will not cause any problem to the engine.

Yes, I'm aware that open chain produces more noise and vibrations. But in my case, it is bit severe which I never faced before the 3rd Service. Also I lube the chain twice a month with the used engine oil. Also I believe that the SC guy have cleaned the chain during 3rd Service. Anyhow will check with him again and clean the chain if he didn't do it before. Will keep you posted. Thanks again dude.
