I don't know, I am too in the same search for finding good pads for front, although the current ones are sufficient for me. I will inform you guys if I get the aftermarket good brake pads.

That's 'engine breaking of oil'. I don't know whether this term that I personally use is a convention or not. Glad to know Bajaj DTS-i oil's engine breaking is 2600 km long...that's how it last 10,000km...anyway another reason why one shouldn't use it. Generally it takes mineral motul about 200-300 km for that. Other Semi synthetic and fully synthetic don't even have it, they are simply put and drive.

@abhi : note this your oil will come life and make gear shifting smooth after 2500 km riding or should I say at next due oil replacement.

It's the distance between fully released clutch and minimal depressed lever to engage clutch plates.

And another friend of mine had switched to 300v and his gasket couldnt take the FS so he needed a top up too. Which is why the two of us pooled in and bought another 300v. Consequently, since I've 500ml of 300v lying around uselessly, I thought I'd do that change.

I wasn't working on the assumption that a part of the engine remains dry if the quantity is not up to level. However, under stress (high speed running), would not a lower volume of engine oil be detrimental?
And the reason I thought of 6K kms is because I read somewhere around xBHP that the 300v is good for that duration. From what I remember reading, 5100 can be pushed to 3000kms and 300v till 6000kms. If thats incorrect, thanks for the correction. You guys just saved me from fried piston rings.

BTW, I'm just curious - what happens when an oil gets old? It becomes dirty, for one. And it also loses its viscosity, right? Which I assume is the primary change that happens (hence the effect on the gear shifting?). So if I do mix a new load of 500ml, that should *technically* be ok for a 1000 more at least, right?
Yes. Motul 300 lasts upto 5000-6500 km, depends on the use. But what abhi and I saying, it's really convenient to change at every other servicing. We presume that replacing the oil before it's dead keeps bike in good shape for long time.

I have a few 500kms trip in coming days and NO time!! I mean NO Time to get the brake pads changed. Let's see how happy is the GOD with me living on Earth?

Guys, do check the usable range of rear brakes on your bikes too. There is a indicator for that on the rear wheel drum.
That's too much work for any God.
Change those pads before trip or I'll come to Indore.

First of all lower the headlight dome. As your bike isn't full DC, you have advantage there for modification.
      Ask drdvtm about it.

Just buy a can of W90 oil to lube the chain yourself. It shouldn't cost more than 100Rs. It will last for a year.

How to identify that it's time to change drive chain ? Or should we wait till it comes in hand on its own.

I reckon there two types of brake pads : 1. cheap polymer made and 2. better but expensive metallic ones.
I'm assuming we have polymer type on disk. I gotta change rear brake liners at next servicing.

you need to do the following-----
          1. buy part number DV111005 FROM bajaj parts shop-532.00 inr,its a avenger 180 s coilplate.it looks like this.....
          2. get your self one h4 p 43t type 55/60 bulb,price-100 inr,it looks like this...
          3. get a glass beam 178mm or commonly known as ambassador sealed beam, price 100inr,it looks like this--

now after opening your headlight ,it will look like this..
just remove the pins from the side your plastic seal beam will come out,and place it with the amby sealbeam you purchased, its a direct fit.it will look like this..
and after finishing it will look like this,,.fit the bulb you purchased inside it.your head light is done.
now you have to change the original coil plate from th e left side of your engine area.just open the left side engine cover, there will be two bolts which is holding the coil, remove the bolts, remove the coil, replace with new coil which u brought, all the connectors will eb same,
          you are done.happy motoring.
oh,its motorcycle the WORD by the way, motorbike is wrong English.for more on step by step on the coil fitting part, here is a beautiful thread by fellow rider yogesh from bcmtouring....Increase Bajaj Pulsar’s headlight intensity by 170%! - India Travel Forum, BCMTouring

          @arjunb25
as ur riding it will be in the range of 2k to 2.5 k or even 3 k.just remember to check the fluid level after 500kms and top up if needed.though the ug 4 are having oil coolers and the oil drinking is very less, still keep an eye on the glass window.

Change that oil at anywhere between 1500kms to 2000kms. As I am preassuming it is Mineral oil. Do write about it's performance.

I too believe in the so called 'engine breaking of oil', I have experienced it too
. So, I should wait for 2500kms for the oil to wake-up? That's already beyond my oil replacement limit of 1500-2000kms maximum. So, the oil should never wake-up and I will be happy putting the same into my brothers 220 FI as he never bothers changing oil.

Do our bikes this kind of nuts? Last time I saw them on bicycles.

in blue: Adjusting these two bolts will tighten or loosen clutch lever.

Yes, these nuts are there in our bikes too. Have a look at the clutch cover, removing it will reveal the SECRET.
Both the methods of adjusting the lever play will work, the one you have mentioned too.

Yes. Motul 300 lasts upto 5000-6500 km, depends on the use. But what abhi and I saying, it's really convenient to change at every other servicing. We presume that replacing the oil before it's dead keeps bike in good shape for long time.

Remember we have an Air cooled bike here and 300V lasts 6-7K kms on oil cooled or water cooled bikes. I remembered one guy changing 300V at 9000kms in his R15.

That's too much work for any God.
Change those pads before trip or I'll come to Indore.

Ohh!! yes SIR. I will change them as soon as possible. Once you said, then it's done.

How to identify that it's time to change drive chain ? Or should we wait till it comes in hand on its own.

There is an indicator for that purpose too on the rear wheel. I mean on the RHS side see the main nut (that big one on which the wheel is mounted) you will see some lines (vertical) these when on the back most (the big nut has no space to move further back for tightening of chain) represent that the drive chain life is over. Simple as that.

            • Yesterday I fell again. That's second time in just two weeks. And third time in life. And again it wasn't my fault, But I do suffer always.

I know the traffic situation here in Pune is one of the worst in the world(Proven in an international survey), but two times in two weeks? that's just too much.

              It happened this way:
Due certain traffic situation a platina, my bike and old 90' Priya scooter were going in collinear doing approx 40-50. At nearing signal which had almost 5-6 sec left on green the Platina biker thought of playing good citizen and without taking a view of rear situation, braked so hard that his both tyres literally squealed. It took me some time to reckon that Platina is going to take a hard stop as I was behind him in line and as a platina is too thin to judge it's breaking hard from behind, add to that it didn't have tail-lights. I came to know that that platina is going stop only after hearing some tyre squealing. Although it was very late, I was able to stop the bike 2 feet behind platina. But the priya scooter didn't have any breaks and it rammed my bike from behind at very high speed. It pushed or dragged my bike for another 2 meters on right side of the platina. It was again my brakes who stopped that scooter and my bike from pushing further. That collision was so severe that it had my bike and scooter fallen on concrete road and dragged 2 meters. My bike was dragged on right side landed.

It was my total sane driving day. I drove it less than 75 speed on 150kph capable empty stretches. Bike's right leg guard did it's job to save my leg from scratching on concrete road. It already had 10 degree bent from last accident, adding yesterday's it's now 30 degree bent. Chrome plate on exhaust suffered some bruises, so did the right pilot glass. Saree guard smooched the tyre. Apart from those every thing was perfect in place.

All of above happened at the feet of a traffic cop. He appreciated me and disk brake(!!) to prevent possible accident from my side. Another traffic cop was riding behind that scooter. Both of them then took the scooter wala aside and gave him their own "remedies".

Considering the speed of the scooter and severeness of the accident following things surprised me...veterans please elaborate.
              1. I couldn't find at what part the scooter rammed neither there was any part went out of way. Even fender was at the perfect middle location. I observed every part carefully still didn't find any possible bruises caused by scooter. might be a miracle or I say bajaj's built to last framework ?
              2. Leg guard took only small bent and saved everything ON CONCRETE ROAD
              3. Although I fell on right side my left knee suffered more bruises than right knee. I don't know how? I even don't remember anything touching that knee.
              4. Bike's performing same as nothing happened.

the scooter prolly just hit the back of the rear wheel and mudflap.
                (so minimum damage caused)

Everything has a tolerance level, may be the hit was within the acceptable limits. The swingarm is one of the strongest part of the bike and could take a lot more abuse then we think. No strange thing in my perspective.

                  2. Leg guard took only small bent and saved everything ON CONCRETE ROAD

Yes, those are designed for that only. I'm glad that Bajaj's have one of the most efficient crash\leg guards, I am saying this after riding HH, Honda, and Bajaj itself.

                  3. Although I fell on right side my left knee suffered more bruises than right knee. I don't know how? I even don't remember anything touching that knee.

No surprise, might be the wounds are due to heated engine (might have touched you while you still were unnoticed about it, happened with me a couple of times.), other respective parts.

                  4. Bike's performing same as nothing happened.

                  That's indeed good NEWS.

Sad to hear that lockhrt! After such accidents where mostly the bike takes hit my heart CRIES for the baby. Could feel your feelings too. No mistake = Big Mistake in this Jungle Traffic.

Rest of the answers in BOLD.

Note: Turn off the bike's engine after you have a fall immediately.

Could it be the scooter hit your tyre? That could explain the lack of damage. Or the fender as Abhi said. I've noticed its pretty strong too.
                    2. Leg guard took only small bent and saved everything ON CONCRETE ROAD
Hmmm... my lft leg guard took a major bend when my bike fell on the left side after an idiot slammed open his car's door in the middle of the road and i went from 25 k/hr to 0 in one second flat
                    3. Although I fell on right side my left knee suffered more bruises than right knee. I don't know how? I even don't remember anything touching that knee.
same thing happened in my crash. I fell on the left side but had bruisings on my right thigh. i dont know how.
                    4. Bike's performing same as nothing happened.
Well, at least then we know it can withstand the Indian roads...

Thanks for the info. In last case it switched off on it's own.

I was glad that Scooter had its every corner crumpled.

Do you know what did I do right after accident? I didn't move an inch for half a minute, I started counting how many trips now I'm going have to SC for restoration and insurance stuff. I was scared to take a look at my bike. Somebody lifted the bike and left it at the edge of the road. I was still in the middle of 3 lane road, shocked. Traffic had stopped as signal was still red.

But after knowing that bike didn't suffer at all, I was relived. Only damage is done to leg guard and the best thing is I have a brand new in spare.

                      • probably the scooter tyre hit your rear tyre as VD17 said, that could have created a strong propulsion due to which you've fallen off the bike and mudflap is super flexible ...once a car wala totally rammed by rear end..the mudflap was so bent that it was touching the tyre.... as soon as i realised..i moved forward and the mudflap was back in position.

@abhi- he said bruises not burns...

It seems that people are more attractive towards Bajaj bikes and end-up in collision with us, or it's that we are more cautious then others are?
