  • This bike keeps surprising me every now and then. Few days back i had an empty tank, filled 200Rs of petrol (2.8 lt). after riding 2-3 kms max my bike went into reserve. i was not expecting this as i thought reserve should be around 1.5 lts or so. any guesses ????

    • Looks like Hero have dropped the CBZ tag from the Xtreme. It looks like it's only called Hero Xtreme now. Atleat the Hero website says so.

I've seen the ad. But just the comparison here, surprises me.

One on the left is the pic of the CBZ Xtreme when it was just launched, the pic on the right is the one I got off of the Hero website just now. Check the boxed region.

AFAIK CBZ/CBR/CBF etc are copyrights of Honda not Hero,so new HMC xtremes are not CBZ Xtremes those are Hero Xtreme. Sad but true .

            • What's there in the name ? All that matters is quality, performance, mileage etc.......(different users have different view)
If the name is holding you back from loving your bike then you can always replace the panel with the old one which has CBZ written on it.

even if HMC change the 'CBZ' from xtream, but still our engine and other stuff are HONDA's??
i heard that honda will no longer provide support after 2014??
if so will they discontinue xtream??

It's not about the name actually. I just wanted to point out that the CBZ moniker was dropped. Just disappointing that the CBZ tag, which almost set the current trend for 150cc bikes along with the Pulsar close to a decade ago isn't in the market anymore.

Yes, engine and technology is still from Honda. Hero is allowed to use their engines up until 2014. Read this article for more info:
Hero, Honda sign new licensing pact till 2014 - Economic Times
I don't think they'll drop the Xtreme, Karizma, Splendor etc. They will mostly use engine's other than Honda's. They may relaunch all of them with more modern engines. Maybe include 4 valve on all of them, DOHC for the Karizma and the like perhaps.

                      And CD-Dawn, CD-Deluxe are now HF-Dawn,HF-Deluxe respectively.
The CD tag also owned by Honda that came with CD-100 it seems...

                      • Hey guys i today replaced the front disk brake fluid by myself though i managed to change the old oil the brake lever if i press hard i can completely make it touch the grip like the clutch lever .
This mechanic guy last time kept on pumping the front lever while changing the brake fluid and slowly the lever became tough to pull...i just dont know when to do this pumping thing .

Tell me what i did wrong :

                        1) Put a transparent fuel hose on the bleed cap .

2)pulled the front lever and slowly loosened the nut ....at this point the lever became very loose and few drops of brake fluid started to fall .

                        3) tightened the screw again still holding the front lever

                        4) after tightening released the front lever.

I kept on doing the above steps over and over till the new fluid was seen in the tube.

Now where do i do the continuous pumping step that the local mech last time which made the front lever play very less

The mark on your bike is correct. Nothing to worry, match the index mark with crankcase mark.
you can check in other way. Open the spark plug and use a torch to peep into the hole. See that the piston is at top. Else insert a thin screwdriver and feel the piston at top.
Another way is to open the head cover and check the tappets. If they are loose then piston is at top.
                            So basically follow these steps:-
                            1. Align the mark on the crankcase to magnet
                            2. Open spark plug and check that piston is at top.
                            3. Open the head cover and check if tappets are loose, if loose then adjust.
in these type of bikes tappets are adjusted by different way.
the tappets are adjusted by rotating the magnet and checking the tappets getting loose. Suppose inlet tappet is loose. Insert feeler gauge and adjust as necessary.
Now check exhaust tappet. If it is tight then rotate magnet until it gets loose. When it gets loose check gap and adjust as necessary.
Basically you pay attention to one tappets at a time and forget about the crank mark.

Thanks a lot sibun for the detailed reply...yes i will check if the piston is at the top by removing the head cover...i didnt open the head cause you told me not to do anything until i post here so i didnt even try to open the head cover until i hear from you.

Now how do i open the head cover ? it has four bolts ..i think of these four two of them are for removing the air pipe?...please guide me how to remove the had cover properly .

I just bought the head rubber gasket and the O-ring for the two bolts that hold the head cover to the bore.

Once i open the head cover i will align the T mark and move the tappet lock nut up and down sideways if it moves then its in TDC and if its not moving then i need to realign the T mark again by rotating 360 degree anticlockwise ....also i will peep through the spark plug hole to see if the piston is at top....hope i understood everything correctly .

Replacing the front disk brake fluid is simple once you understand and let Gravity do the job for you...
                                1. Connect a transparent tube to the bleed nipple, and place the other end in a small tray or old pet bottle..
                                2. Open the top master Cylinder reservoir cap fully so that you can see the oil..
                                3. Open the bleed nipple slowly and you will see the oil slowly coming into the tube.....
                                4. Pay attention to the oil Level at the top Reservoir, and keep filling it, WITHOUT LETTING IT REACH MINIMUM....
                                5. After approximately 100 ml of oil collected at the bleed bottle, close the bleed nipple...
                                6. Ensure the Oil level at the Reservoir is at Max level by topping it up..
                                7. Close the Reservoir cap.
You have now replaced the brake oil...There is no need to pump the brake lever at any time., since Gravity will pull the oil and drain old oil in to the drain bottle.
