Nice and excellent photos. It is quite good to see silver extreme in this crowd of black extreme.

You can go for OE as it is best, but if it is expensive, then go for reputed brands like ANL,ASK or MAKINO.

If yours is extreme then the manual says full capacity at 12.4 litres but i have filled 14 litres more than a couple of times. After reserve, you can fill almost 11-12 litres depending upon distance traveled after reserve.

The local brand pads are too thick, from what i can see. Check if they allow the wheel to rotate freely, and if not then use ANL or KBX pads. If wheel is rotating freely, nothing to worry as you can use it.

(I bought a TOP buzzer for Rs.20/-)Time Required :Less than 5 minutes.Procedure :STEP 1: Remove the two bolts holding the headlight assembly. These are the bolts you will need to adjust if your headlight beam is facing upwards and downwards. There is a small index mark which helps in maintaining the factory adjustment.STEP 2: Once these bolts are removed, gently lift the headlight assembly's bottom away from the bike then while holding it from the bottom, push it up toward the meter/sky . The headlight assembly's upper portion rests on two mounting and if you have any trouble removing these then the plastic covers just beside the meter can be removed by un-screwing two screws for each cover. It rests on these mountings and has a rubber bushing which prevents the headlight/visor assembly from rattling. STEP 3: Put a clean cloth on the fender/mudguard (To prevent scratches)and allow the headlight assembly to rest on it while you disconnect the connector to the headlamp/blinkers.STEP 4: Locate the winker relay and remove its connector by just pulling it.STEP 5: Strip the ends of the wires of the buzzer and just put in into the connector and re-install the connector to the relay. Reconnect the wiring to the headlight assembly and activate the turn indicator. If there is no sound then just reverse the wires of the buzzer connected to the relay. There is a double sided tape pre-installed to the backside of the buzzer . I stuck the buzzer onto the lower side of the meter assembly, safe from water spray. STEP 6:Check the headlight's wiring and whether all the blinkers are working properly.STEP 7: Mount the headlight assembly onto its mounting and make sure the rubber bushings are intact.STEP 8: Re-install the bolts and make any adjustments.DONE ! It is much simpler than what it looks,I did it in 3 minutes FLAT !
When, i first time opened my extreme headlight for trying a different bulb, then i was also amazed by how easily the front visor can be removed. In the first and second model extreme, lot of nuts and bolts need to be opened, but from the digital model(JUNE 2011 onwards) it requires only two nuts to be opened. I do not have buzzer on any of my bikes as i do not like the sound of buzzer. I have a natural instinct of my fingers automatically going to indicators before making a turn and then automatically going to switch off after turn. Even on my sisters pleasure, no buzzer is there as she also uses indicator like me that is by natural instinct.Regarding that rubber bushes on which headlight is mounted, then those bush wear out but cost only Rs.6 OE. Mine seems to wear out slightly, and i will change it in this service. Regarding headlight AIM, from the photos it feels that yours is set too high. Set it slightly lower so that on high beam, with single person sitting the beam should fall on road at a distance of 40 feet. My beam is set slightly lower so i do not face any problem while touring in night. This Wednesday, i had to return from my office to home at evening 6 PM. By that time it was dark. I reached home at 9 PM after covering a distance of 172 km in night and never have i faced any problem. The highway was pitch black and also was very deserted giving it a creepy feeling. I maintained a constant 75-80 kph and in between gunned it till 105 kph.

Some photos on the way, sorry for image quality as it was taken by cell phone camera.

1st pic- At a pit stop on the highway, at a small village,
2nd pic- Picture after 50 km of riding, notice the idle it is same when cold and also after 50 km of riding,
3rd pic- At toll booth near Bhubaneswar with high beam on- reflection on toll plaza board and the light on small bushes on the left side of road, check the brightness of stock bulb.
4th pic- High beam on with handle turned to left and light falling on the pavement. Check the brightness of stock bulb. This is the thin model german bulb that comes with digital model extreme post june 2011(mine is sept 2011, so stock bulb from factory). So all old model extreme/hunk change to this bulb.
5th pic- Same place with headlight turned off.

The only reason for me to buy a Black Xtreme was the availability of plastic panels in future. As you must have seen in other threads,Cosmetic Parts of Xtreme and Karizma are very hard to source in Hyderabad.

What to do Sibun !On my way,I encounter a patch where the traffic is crazy and don't care to notice the indicators. They are notorious to overtake from the direction where I give an indicator and intent to go. Suppose I activate left indicator and want to take a left turn, the maniacs will overtake me from left only and most of them with a mobile in one hand.
Another problem is with rickshaws so when they hear beeping sound then only they bother to notice the indicators.

Indicator's chirping noise irritates me but I have to live with it.

I have adjusted the headlight after taking the picture ,I used this picture only for demonstration and you can also note that it is only not fully threaded and other side bolt is not yet installed.

Yes you are correct, the stock headlight is very bright and focused. Even the spread of low beam is excellent is sufficient for most of the time. Mine is HALONIX.

• @Shoeb and Sibun - you guys being most seniors and experienced members here,
would like to check out what made you choose Xtreme over other manufacturer's bikes in this really competitive 150cc segment.

I am not at all a senior or an experience member.I just share with you guys what I learn and do on my bikes.

My decision was a very easy one,I had two hero Honda bikes at home and did not have any trouble in their entire life.

So my another bike had to be a Hero.

Quality was the main criterion and presently no one can match the quality of hero. If you spend time in examining bikes made by hero very carefully then you will get to know what I mean.
They may not have fancy features but be it a HF dawn or a ZMR ,quality is never compromised.

I am trying to cover every possible thing which made me choose a Hero bike. Please wait for my ownership review and it is going to be a very lengthy one.

Yes, you are right, black body parts are easier to obtain, but in my twelve years of ownership of my joy, i have never changed a single body parts, as i am very careful while riding and also never let anyone touch my bike.Yes, you are right about indicators, because most morons do not care about indicators. But here in bhubaneswar traffic is more educated and better than hyderabad. As for black color, i bought black color because in bikes i like only black and as once HENRY FORD said "You can have any color as long as it is black", same applies to me as i like black only. But when my friend bought his ZMR in white, this is the first time i liked any color other than black.

Man, you are making us too old as i am only 24 years, so we cannot be too senior or too experienced.Regarding why i bought an extreme, then it is a long story and i will write that in ownership experience, which i am compiling presently with lots of material. It includes magazine scans and lot of photos. So be sure it will be one HELLUVA of post. So wait for it. It will be up soon as i am trying to make it completely exhaustive so that other members will be benefited.

You never know when it might be damaged by others or factors beyond our control. We are such nuts that we always want our rides in Showroom condition. My favorite colors are Black/White (bikes),White/silver (cars).

I won't be surprised if our reviews are going to be similar !

• @Sibun: I have the same new series Phillips German bulb as my Hunk's headlight. But I am really sorry to observe that those lights don't do justice on the highway. At high beams, it is OK. Will have to find some AUX workaround.

Changed my engine oil to this: Two Wheeler Oils :: VEEDOL TAKE-OFF 4T PREMIUM

Now waiting for some running with the oil. But the engine sound has definitely become a little milder I found. Will post a long term review of the same. 4-5 compulsory highway rides coming up in this month.

Guys, today i drove 120km from home to my city bhilai . It was a nice highway run . My extreme was running oem engine oil . Before setting off i cleaned and lubricated my chain, clutch, brakes etc . Average speed was 65kmph , my extreme pulls real hard from 80kmph to 114 , yes for first time i hit my top speed today , it was vibrating a lot and winds were bothering too much. Yes its true and i also agree with fact that extremes pull like crazy from 6k rpm . Brakes are better than before now , front's bite is better after blasting compressed air . I was afraid that barrel oil will not perform well in this heat , but it actually held up pretty well though it heats engine a lot and it can be felt in ur shins . Also one more thing i noticed that now mw extreme idles at 1.1k no matter hot or cold , this is due to proper afr i guess ... Regarding headlamps i have set it bit near so that visibility is clear and focused since i dont use high beam . All in all i love my extreme , there was a time when i regretted my purchase as it leaked oil and vibrated a lot , but those problems were rectified and i could feel the power more easily... So i want to say to all new buyers , PLEASE GIVE THIS BIKE SOMETIME TO OPEN UP , AFTER WHICH YOU WILL LOVE IT MORE ...

Are you sure it was 75kmpl on the highway or 75 kms/100 rs of petrol????
I guess top speed should improve after say 2000 kms....

• My Xtreme returned roughly/approximately 37 kmpl during the first 75 kms. (Normal riding under 4K Rpm and with occasional short bursts till 4.5K to 5 K rpm only while overtaking)
The FE is perfectly normal as the engine has not yet settled.
As the odo reading increases, mileage will improve. Applicable to all hero Bikes.

It should be 75 km for 100 Rs of petrol. I had got a mileaged of 64 kpl copuple of times on highway when riding in 4.5k rpm. But now i hardly go below 6k rpm on highways. Still mileage is 52-55 kpl.

Top speed will increase after 5k rpm as engine will get free to pull high revs. Some hero bikes take as long as 10k kms.

• Yesterday night, after the college's annual day celebrations, we decide to have biryani. At around midnight when we come out of the hotel. I try starting my bike and it refuses to start. At first I thought it must be cold starting problem, but then I realize the spark plug adapter is gone. FACK. Luckily, found a wire, wrapped it around the two terminals to pass on the spark between them. It worked. After this I could drive the bike max upto 3rd gear and had to maintain rpm upwards 3k in every gear, or it would stall.
