Because the cross marked section of dipstick itself is not longer than 2 cm I believe.
Do you see oil/black oily deposits on the exhaust tip?
Yeah, oil level drops that much. After 1K kms, oil level just touches the dip stick.
Yeah, there are black deposits on exhaust end, But its very low. Once cleaned, it takes another 2-3 hundred kms to deposit again.
Cant see even smoke coming out of it.

Open the bore and check the bore. Check the bore for wear and and marks. If bore is ok with no wear which you can check on the top of bore as there will be groove as rings do not come till top. If there is no wear, then check the rings tension as due to low friction rings are thin and leak compression quicker than say a splendor. If bore is ok, then change the rings to standard rings. But if bore is worn then change the bore kit. Also change the timing chain and the timing pads. Also check the rocker arms and if it has play change that also. If going for new bore, change the clutch plates as new bore will produce more torque and will screw the old plates. When changing plates change to OE CBZ extreme and not unicorn. Do all these and bike will fly.
Sure will check it and let you know.

Pictures taken after a through wash and polish this morning. I used Sonax car wax cum polish liquid and it is very easy to apply and is durable. Beads water upto 4 months with once a month wash and daily dusting with jopasu duster.
The finish has depth and gloss that is not picked-up by my mobile camera. Actually the pictures don't do any justice .

As i said your bikes paint quality is different than mine. My tanks paint is completely damaged and my painter has agreed to repair it. Rest all body parts paint are very good. I cannot find Sonax here and on snapdeal it cannot ship here. So looking out for sonax.

While we are on the subject of paint. I have a query.

Most times, whenever I wash my bike or it gets caught in the rain, I noticed a nice prominent blue colour on the sides of he tank which won't go away by wiping. But which goes away after a while by itself. The next time this happens, I will take pictures for a clearer idea. Until then, does anyone know what this is?

I am using CEAT ZOOM (Tube type) for 2k kms now, and it is pretty good.
It takes 100-200km to set-in, till then the grip will be less but very good grip afterwards.

Was on Gulf 10w30 for 4000kms now. Had last changed the oil at Udhampur, J&K. I reverted back to my favourite Veedol 10W30 Take Off 4T premium and the engine is smoooooooothhh!! Interestingly, they are now packing discount coupons inside the bottle. So, if you do not find it under the bottle cap, do not despair. Have a look:

Regarding Gulf 10w30: The bottle says use it for 10,000 kms! Thankfully, I know that my Hunk is not a truck! Have drained it at 4000 kms. Performance-wise I have nothing much to write about as I felt that it was just OK. When I had changed to Gulf from Veedol 10w40, the engine had felt harsh. But served me well in the high altitudes. Had I found the Veedol 10w30, I would have taken that only. Overall, I felt it was just an average oil

Veedol 10w40 is something you should ABSOLUTELY use when you're running on highways. Keeps the engine happy, super smooth and cool. I cannot get over it, really! :P
Now using 10w30 because my next 3000 kms/ so will be mostly in city conditions. And this is a fine oil to have!

Over ran the usage with my rear disk pads. :/

Disk rotor has scratches on it now. :/ Can I safely just use new pads? The scratches are visible, but not very deep when felt with the fingers. So I assume it's ok to just use new pads.

Would like a more experienced voice to guide me though.

• Rings fried!

Ok thinking of updating for some time and finally got time and broadband at same time. This summer it was quite hot and also the bike was stressed to limits as my running was usually in the morning or at 2 o' clock in the afternoon when the heat is maximum. Also bike always remains above 6k rpm.but the real problem was when in the end week of May the choke was stuck and i couldn't get spares nor tools to repair the same. So that hit the nail as it made the engine run at extreme stress. Also bike was running at high rpm till the day the bore was opened.

In the first week of june bike ran for 1200 km in five days. My brother's wedding was on 5th of june and i left from office on 4th of june in the evening. Then on the fifth i had to go to cuttack in morning to be able to catch bus to let sister and mother go to village. then i returned to bhubaneswar and again in the evening went to village with my friend as pillion. my village is at a distance of 145 km from bhubaneswar. In the evening 8 o' clock reached village. One thing i wanted to mention is that on the way bike was flying to 90-100 kph without any effort, with two on board. On the 5th the whole night we were awake as we had the wedding at night and the wedding continued till 5 o' clock. Then at 5 o' clock i returned to my village from brides village and then freshened up. Then for some doubt checked the oil level and was surprised to see no oil in dipstick. Since in our village there is no lube shop and my friend had office so took the risk and rode it till bhubaneswar. After dropping my friend headed to my mechanic, and when oil was drained only 150 ml was left. my mechanic doubted the bore has gone while i doubted the ring as pick up was more than perfect.

So on my request he opened the bore and it was confirmed the rings were gone.

Now enough of blabbering and some photos.

The head cover opened and the bike was running on Shell ultra fully synthetic. See the clean rockers and timing chain

Opening the cam sprocket. The timing chain was tied to the leg guard with a copper wire to prevent it from falling into engine and creating problem, afterwards.

The head removed and the carbon on piston crown. You can see the carbon to be spft and wet indicating oil consumption.

The valves and you can see the tuning was optimum. Thanks to my mechanic who tunes the carb perfectly. By looking at valves anyone can be fooled into thinking that it is from FI engine.

Thats the top ring and you can see the rings are perfect, no wonder engine was running perfectly. Even the bore doesn't have any marks.

Thats not the expander ring but the fried oil ring. You can see how the rings had fried as the expander ring pattern has come on the oil ring.

So for the expander and bottom oil ring bike was consuming oil. after that left it near mechanic and went to home as was tired due to previous 24 hours not sleeping. By the time i went home i hadn't slept for 29 hours at a strech.

• Re: Rings fried!

Wow man hugely informative post . The color on valves shows the perfect AFR , but i have seen brick red color on Joy's valve which is not quite present in extreme here but yes Joy is a legend as you say and incomaparable to extreme. In the pic where you show exhaust valve my eyes caught the cam holder assembly which is put down , That is so clean looks straight out of the box. The way you tied cam chain by wire was simply brilliant , most of the mechanics insert a long screw driver across head to hold it.

The combustion chamber has minimal or no carbon deposits showing perfect afr and high rpm running which burnt off all carbon which was deposited. I was looking at catalogue of xtreme and i didnt find anything about ring mentioned , all i found was ring set + oversizes .

1. Also what problems do you faced with 10w40 in cold starts. i have replaced choke cable and still i get that mysterious dip in idle when engine is hot , also i am not liking this 10w40 now due to low running it creates cold start issues and 6K post punch is gone. My AFR is same as before 1.8 turns but still cold and hot rpm vary by 5-600 rpm.

After having discussion with shoeb , it came to conclusion that may be w40 is creating these problems . I will change oil to OE oil Tide make . But i am not sure if my tappets are loose as i get mild tik tik noise when hot ( noise is heard near engine only not audible from saddle ) . I fear that i might strip the head cover bolt thread due to which i am not sure of opening head cover.

2. What all problems can loose tappet cause and the dip in rpm in idle , let me explain the dip , engine idles good for sometime and rpm goes down but engine picks pace again , this goes on for 2-3 min after it completely stalls . I had this problem only few times.
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)
