  • sorry for noob question what does OE means.
    and
a local mechanic twisted the throttle(@neutral) and showed me smoke coming out of silencer and told me to rebore as soon as possible
and he said if you want engine as newly delivered bike then it will cost around 6500(bore,piston,timing chain...) is he correct or making me fool?

OE means Original Equipment, means genuine spare part for your Xtreme/Hunk marketed by Hero(previously Hero Honda).
Sometimes the part available outside from a different manufacturer could be of better quality than OE, like the case of Diamond/Rolon chain specified by Sibun above.

If smoke comes out continuously on giving throttle, most likely your engine would need a re-bore or bore-piston replacement.
Please mention about details of your bike like, model, year of purchase, number of kilometers on odo, other symptoms like drop of mileage/power etc; so that FMs can help you better.

no loss in power but it wants me to shift to 2 nd gear as soon as i start moving
tyres r in very bad condition
and engine oil life is reduced am finding very less amount while changing

So your bike should have done more than 50k kms now.
Mileage of 50km/l is good enough for an Extreme, but I think you checked the mileage before 1 year when the odo was working!
No loss in power and decent mileage, oil level getting reduced - I think your bike's issues might get rectified with a change of engine oil rings, but re-boring/changing cylinder-piston would be the permanent fix.
Now wait for response from seniors like Sibun!

Your oil rings are gone and also your bore is slightly scratched. Check the oil level daily so that crankshaft and camshaft do not require early replacement. first of all i request you to change your tires as it is a safety aspect and it is most urgent.
regarding engine i would advice you to save money and go for half overhaul of the engine.
In half overhaul i mean to say:-
              1. Change bore and piston kit
              2. Open the head and polish the valves. If possible change the valve guides.
              3. Change the clutch plates and change the housing for wear and if there then change it.
              4. Also check timing chain and timing chain pads and tensioner, change if worn.
I am advising you to do these at a time as it will increase the life of engine to another 50k before engine needs overhaul. If you do it step by step, then it is of no use as you will spend the same money(may be more) but you will not get the new bike feeling.

The bore kit consist of bore, piston and rings along with bore and head packing. It will cost around Rs.3100. Go for new bore kit for complete peace of mind.
nothing to worry as this is a common work and for me it takes only one and half hour for completing the work.

                  • Low mileage issue

Its almost 2600km on odo , the bike is performing well , but I wished to check its mileage once , So i filled it with 1.41 lt of petrol and drove it (after hitting reserve) the driving conditions were : 90% city + 10% highway When i checked the km traveled , it was just 50km when it hit reserve again , That makes mileage of 35 kmpl I cleaned the air filter , and checked spark plug , It was greyish which i think shows lean mixture. Sibun ji highlighted that my bike may have valve leakage problem So my query comes down to " What can be other possible causes for low mileage and is valve leakage one of them ?" Oil was changed at 2100km with OE 10W30
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

                    • Hi Guys, I bought new Hero Xtreme ten days back.
                      Having good time riding it.

                      • Thanks for all the reply guys - i think my clutch plate is gone - cause on a steep slope with a pillion the bike struggles a lot on 3rd gear but the same slope is tackled with ease on a 19K kms old NXG - The NXG seems to have more "pulling" power than my xtreme on that steep slope - there is also a slight dip in power - will get it changed next week as the head mech is on leave.

Also once i hit reserve the bike stops - i was stranded like this on my recent trip down south - i would put the bike on side stand and pull the choke - leave it like that for a minute - then it will fire up and go on for another 5-8 kms - thewn i will have to do it all over again - if i rev it above 5000 RPM the bike will stutter to a stop immediately - so i pulled the fuel pipe to see if the petrol is flowing when i set it to reserve - no petrol - if i immediately set it to ON position petrol starts to flow for a min. or two - then again if i set it to RES it stops - there seems to be some kinda block inside the tank .

@hars1988 Like sibunji said change the bore kit - will set you bacvk by Rs 5000 .

I have also told lean mixture doesn't means your tuning is correct and mileage will be good. So get it properly tuned at service center. Do not go about leaning the mixture as lean mixture doesn't guarantees good mileage.

Or you can follow my guide on carb tuning and re-tune the bike.
Yes valve leakage is one problem which causes low mileage, but first re-tune properly and see. If still mileage doesn't change then i will tell you how to check for valve leakage.

That means your petrol tank is full of dirt and debries accumulated over years. What you do is completely remove tank from chassis, open the petrol tap and drain petrol into a jar.
Open the float of fuel meter and keep it aside.
Now take a small spoon of detergent and pour it into tank. Also get a used timing chain of splendor from garage and tie a string and put the chain inside. The string is tied and kept outside for the chain to be taken out. I do not tie string because i know how to take out chain from tank. What you do is now pour a mug full of water into tank and shake it well in all direction and check the timing chain moves on both sides of tank. Now do not shake for more than five minutes.
take out the chain. The chain would have dislodged all the dirt and now using a pipe from water pump spray pressurised water into the tank. let the tank be full and overflow for 10 minutes. The lighter particeles will come out through the top cap and the heavier particles will come out through the petrol tap and fuel meter hole.
the pressurised water will churn the loose dirt inside tank and flush it out.
After that drain the water fully from tank and keep it in hard sun for 2-3 hours, this will dry the tank thoroughly. Clean the petrol tap with petrol and change the stick like filter that goes inside tank with tap with a new one and it is available in HERO store and cost only Rs.25.
This way your tank will be completely clean of muck and debries.
