Was really hard to find regarding the run-in period of the bike..Googled it but every website said something different..

So thought why not start a thread specially foe the run-in of any Indian bike..

As i already had a Honda stunner which was mostly used by my brother and his friend.. so didnt knew much about.. now that i have atarted using my Hunk.. i feel that run-in of a bike is a very critical part and is to be taken special care of..

So all queries and doubts and questions about run-in at one place..

My first query.. What should be the RPM and speed limit to be maintained and till how many kilometers?

Some say that there is no need to do such stupidity.. bike has already gone through PDI check and all.. i found that reason bullshit..

      Second query..
The idling rpm of my hunk increases when i ride for more than 10kms continiously.. initially its between 1200rpm but when engine opens up and gets heated up the rpm increases to 1700rpm.. is it common..

      Third query..
How to heat up the engine when starting the bike in the morning..
The method i follow daily is.. pull the choke on for not more than 5 seconds and start the bike with kick start.. and revv a little till 3k rpm and let the engine idle for 2 minutes and then ride to office..

When i do this i feel a lag when taking pickup.. but after running 200 -300meters the lag vaniahes.. and the ride becomes more smooth..

      Awaiting your reply guys..
      Thanks in advance..
      Cheers!

First query- run in is very critical for a new bike whoever said that it is 'bullshit' doesn't know a thing about bikes I suggest that you never take any suggestion from this person regarding this, the rpm to be maintained is between 3-4 and speed not above 60kmph till 1000km or till 2nd service, and also very important to not lug the engine, don't ride at very low rpm too.
Second query- yes the idle rpm varies when engine is cold and hot, generally the cold rpm should be about 1.1 and hot should be 1.4-1.5 max but new bikes idle rpmis set higher till first service so yours is completely normal.
Third query- pull the choke for 30 seconds let the bike heat up on choke, don't rev a cold engine.

Interesting stuff ... I have never heard of anyone doing this . Not sure about the potential damages that can be caused . How is your friends achiever ? Still in good shape ?

Hi guys, I was also thinking that there should one thread which includes details run in tips, procedures for better life of our rides in future.
                    This should include following points.
                    1. Speed & respective RPM to be maintained at initial.
                    2. Rpm wise gear shifting pattern
                    3. Oil changing interval, which oil should be used in run in period (specific oil grade)
                    4. Up shifting, downshifting of gears for those who are newbie. (Shifting from 5th to 1st gear)
                    5. General blunders given by service center guys to newer bike owner during initial services & how to tackle this blunders.
                    6.
More suggestions from senior members will be appreciated.

There are countless threads about run in online no use making another, I think you haven't looked in the right websites, here's one which would be suitable http://www.motorcycleextremist.com/M...ight-Way!.html

I went 2 svc to clean my carb, both of them were busy with Saturday's full service, so decided to clean it my self.

That small one which is in the middle is slow jet. The bigger size is main jet. Both have head with a slot to fit a minus screw driver.
Open it with a good screw driver but be careful to not damage the jet.
                              Clean both the jets.
I hope you are comfortable with this.
                              Done the job?
