I've a small issue.

My horn has begun to work very sporadically. This is more prominent once the dark sets in and I turn on my headlamps. After a while of riding with the Headlamp on, if I switch off the bike and the headlamp and just cruise in neutral, the horn never words. I need to turn on the bike and accelerate a bit for the horn to work.

That being said, the bike starts properly, the lights(Which are DC) work fine, as do the indicators. What could be the problem?

Could be weak battery . Is it maintenance free ? How old is your battery ? You can try and get it recharged once .

ashwin.terminator- There is a adjuster on horn. Adjust it and horn will be ok. Usually the carbon on the points changes the clearance and thus horn works when starting and not on DC. Adjust the screw on Horn and horn will work ok.

I already disconnected the connectors, sprayed WD-40 on them and put them back. Didn't help. :P

Battery is about 3 years old, and yes, maintenance free.

Haha, spot on @sibun . Spot on! I tried a few stunts with the connectors, but nothing worked. And then I remembered mechanics just turn the screw and it would work again, I did the same and voila! It was back to normal!

And to add a few more symptoms, the frequency of the horn going kaput kept increasing as the days went by. Also, the horn finally ended up working only if I rev a little about 3k RPM.

Hello BHPians.

My ride is 2 months old now & i am enjoying every single k.m. ride on it. But now i want to do some stuff to make her more enjoyable.
1. Rear tires provides adequate grip, its not confident inspiring for especially highway ride. One day while going down from steep slop pressed breaks slowly, then harder. Rear tire almost locked & skidded for 5 meters. That was really scary experience almost had heart in my mouth. Can your guys tell me which tubeless tires are available having enough grip.
2. Head light does not provide sufficient illumination at night (for highway ride). Can i use 55w bulb as opposed 35w stock setup which will give better illumination. my stock bulb is halonix made.

Thanx in advance.

Hey Guys!

It has been 3 months with my Billo Rani (Hero Hunk) yess that is what i call her!

The ride is awesome.. but after First service my billo is giving me very less mileage.. around 35..
Before first service it gave 41..

When i keep my bike on reserve and park it on side stand.. morning i see some petrol leaked.. doesnt happen if park on double stand.. if the petrol knob is at ON.. there aint any leakage.. even at side stand?

If i arrive late from office.. i dont get the space to park on double stand..

Whenever i apply my rear disc they make weird noise. It is from the day i took the delivery..servicing guys say it is because of dust and water which enters the pads during washing.. :banghead:

I am irritated with the disc noise..

Comments are welcome.. mileage is not a major issue.. but the disc noise is..

Whenever i downshift.. from 4th or 5th gear to 2nd and 1st gear while stopping at signals or urgent braking.. the gear does not down shift..

The gear lever feels as if i am pressing the brake lever.. and when i leave the clutch a little i hear a katak sound of the chain and engine turns off.. :banghead:

This is a serious issue i am facing.. no use of showing in service centre..

Kindly help
Thanks in advance..

1. Has carb been touched during first service ? If yes then they probably changed afr setting , get carb retuned from reputed mech or diy

2. Are you sure it is petrol leaking , it can be water droplets from exhaust weld area too , anyways keep bike on side stand and directly check carb , your ride is pretty new so this problem should not occur

3. Mech is right disc sound is from dust, it will come back after few weeks again , use pressure water jet in disc and caliper area to wash off stuck dust , still persists ? Clean pads
4. Gearbox is synchromesh means , gears downshift slowly , if run in is over switch to Gulf 10w30 or veedol of same grade

5. Check clutch adjustment , there should be 1-2" of play , if less than clutch plates will wear out , also check chain play , svc guys usually tension chain pretty hard and that makes things worse.

Very easy to do , just take 30 min to mech everything will be sorted out.

Happened to me today while travelling back to home on 4 lane highway. Please help me.

If the stock bulb is 35w, change to 55w bulb. Won't cause any harm to the battery and would give way better illumination.
If you ride during night time a lot, install lamps on the crash guards, but you would need to either install higher capacity battery or do some other mods to take the load. (i am not technically sound on this part, try to post your query in the lighting thread.)

Ride safe and have fun.

1. Carb afr screw have no idea about it.. how to check the perfect position for afr screw?

2. It is not water droplets.. It seems like oil/petrol leakage.. I checked the under belly part of the bike.. from where the carb wire is left down.. its sticky and oily.. black sticky material stuck my hands..

3. Service guys showed a place to put water.. after doing it the noise increases... he even says to change the brake liner..

4. My ride has clocked 2020 kms as of today. Only first service done. Second service is at 3k kms. Never crosssed 70kmph yet.. Till how many kms should i run-in the bike.. till 3rd service which is at 6000kms. Uaing hero oil as of now. The oil used in service center itself.

5. Chain adjustment was tight after first service. Which was rectified the other day itself of the first service. Clutch play is proper.

Thanks again.

1. Afr screw is small brass screw on left side of carb , every bike has different setting of afr screw turns , if you are facing bogging down on sudden acceleration or poor mileage , you need to tune afr , you can follow my signature or page 695 . It is a sensitive thing so I suggest tuning carb as last option .

2. Oil can be from 2 things

A.) Engine oil most probably leaking past drain bolt
B.) Oil from front chain sprocket area and anywhere near chain guard , this is due to over oiling ,nothing to worry

If it is petrol then your carb float valve might have an issue

3. Your is rear disc na ? AFAIK There is no such component as brake liner in disc setup. All you have to do is clean brake pads , iirc shoeb.2015 put up a nice diy some pages back on rear disc cleaning, you can follow it

4. Your run in is already over , since you are using hero oil , you have already drove 1500 km on it , this is high time you get oil changed from mech , use hero oil of savita or tide water make , hero oil lasts 1000-1200 km max.

5. No problem with clutch then

Really appreciated!

1. I wont touch the AFR screw on my own..
Will tell the mechanic to do so.. There is no bogging down when i accelerate suddenly. The response is much smoother after the first service. Before the first serive, engine used to be hesitant or stressed, at sudden acceleration during overtaking.

2. If oil leakage then it is nothing to worry.. That is a relief to hear..

It might be petrol.. Lets see what my mechanic says after looking at it..

3. Yes.. My hunk is with rear disc.. Okies there is no liner setup in disc.. i didnt knew that.. will clean the pads soon.. and follow the instructions.. Thanks..

4. Engine oil was changed in first service..
That was the oil which they fill from the oil drum.. which is installed in service center.. There is a pipe attached to it.. from where the mechanic fills the oil.. It lasts only 1000kms.. why does hero uses such thin oil then, if it doesnt last long? I was thinking to change my oil.
Castrol, shell or Veedol? Which one will be better in 10w30grade?

No , if it is engine oil then it is a matter to worry , as engine oil level is dropping

Then black oil CAN be from chain , it is not a matter to worry then

Also what oil hero uses is tender based, means quality us regulated by hero itself

It will be better if you stick to hero oil for 5000 kms , draining at 1000 km

Just think how cheap and effective hero oil is , even today for engine run in ppl use hero oil as it is that good

Castrol is almost fake in most places , shell and veedol are good . Use 10w30 grade strictly any higher will be detrimental on engine.
