  • Today i had changed a few old things in my dio.
Firstly the spark plug with an NGK iridium. The older one was of champion & it was in duty from the stock bike(from 2005). I have changed it after 17660 kms of usage. It was totally blackened by such long usage. I had never changed the spark plug from the date of purchase of the bike till now.

Second is the air filter. I have changed it from a paper type to a foam one. The paper type was comparetively costly (around 200) & was not reusable while the foam was much cheaper (around 115), reusable, economical & easy to maintain/clean.
After these two changes the pickup has increased, although marginal to some extent.

Even i have changed my RVMs which had got very loose.

Has it started just after the service or after some days?

also if the petrol has some dirt it'll block the carburetor..

also if the air filter cap is loosely fixed..

I use premium fuel. Now, will change it and switch to normal and then observe the change. Thanks for information.

              • Adultrated fuel may be the cause of the choking. Fill normal petrol from a known good fuel pump.

Both are equally good.. MRF is slightly costlier than CEAT
the stock MRF ZAPPER is good.. :-)

The stock MRF is the best tyre. You can go for it easily. Dont ever use a TVS tyre even at the world's end. It sucks a big time. I have used it & now i dont have any grip in my dio. Even if i go at 60kmph it shakes of whereas it was stable with the stock MRF tyre. BTW i have changed only the rear tyre & 35k kms is too long. I had changed my tyre at 14k only. The tyre gave up early due to bad roads.

I am repeating it again but NEVER use a TVS tyre unless & untill if it is available for free.

                      • Yesterday i had got my front shocks serviced. It took 440 for me. The shocks were making a squealing sound. Moreover i had even replaced the suspension covers for 60. So the front shock absorber has been made as new & it took me 500 total.

                        • Is this a lemon?

First time, I've given my Activa to a third party (known mechanic) other than H.A.S.S for a service. IMO, he charged a bomb, but not sure if it would cost the same in H.A.S.S. Here's the breakup...

                          1 Clutch shoe - Rs 330
                          1 (unreadable word) - Rs 25
                          1 O-Ring - Rs 35
                          1 Air filter - Rs 45
                          2 Suspension bush (rear) - Rs 20
                          Total - 455
                          Water wash - Rs 60
Labour - Rs 450 (I strongly suspect this, but still...)
                          Total - 965

This is without changing the engine oil.

I suspect the labour to be on higher side (work done on rear suspension, clutch & engine head), but would like to know if anyone else has worked upon clutch, suspension & engine head & were being charged so much for this type of work.

I gave it to this guy because he wouldn't cheat (still an assumption) & instead ask for what he needs. Pls help me understand guys if this is a normal labour. Tks.

                          • ^^Here in bangalore the total charge for servicing including water wash is 250-300.

So I think dont the labour charge should be that high. I have got repaired my front shocks & for that the total cost was 500. But that cost was including everything. Read my earlier post for it.

I think the guy is cheating you & i would suggest to go to another garage.

Anyways I dont think that the H.A.S.S are any genuine (not every SC) than the local garage guys. Even i used to think that the local guys cannot be trusted & thought the H.A.S.S to be genuine. But once i took my scooter to them for some sound from the engine. These guys checked the engine & told me that somehow water has got into the engine & for repairing it i need to spend a minimum of 2000. After that i took the same scooter to a local (trusted) mechanic. He inspected the vehicle & fixed the sound in just 100. The problem was side rubber belt was not well lubricated.

I found that these SC guys only wash the bike, then change the engine oil (that too sometimes), clean the filter & do very little. For that work they cost a bomb. Afterall these SC mechanics are also road side mechanics only & not any engineers.

                            • time for overhauling

my dear old grey honda activa a.k.a my gladiator has been running for nearly 13k kms now and had its last oil change at 7k...this time i'm going for motul 4t semi-syn oil...also I plan on changing the spark plug to an iridium one...anyone know the spark plug number for activa? also after what distance should the brakes be replaced? what should be the preferred brakes used and the estimated price?

First of all the brake shoes are replaced & not the brake system. Secondly the time for replacing brakes (shoes) varies with riding condition. The more you use the brakes the more frequently you replace the brakes. Check the wear indicator for it. There is no specific brand for the brakes which are reputed. You can use any brand. They should cost you something less than 200.

Which model is your activa?? Is it the new 109cc or the old one. The old activa/dio spark plug no. is CR6HIX. The new activa spark plug no. is CPR7EAIX-9.
