Tips for increasing average speed...
I am doing some extensive driving in my Dio daily, 90+ kms to my office
. I feel i am straining the engine above 60 kmph.. Is there any way to increase the average speed? (like something similar to sprocketting in bikes to increase top-end) I know it is too much to expect out of my Dio but any suggestion will be helpful.
PS: Answers for the questions that you may get seeing my post,
1. Yes, I do feel a lil back pain due to the long run but i got used to it
2. The average mileage i get is more than 50+ since most of the driving is in highway. I even once got the best 60+ kmpl

Welcome to the "dio back breakers" club, I myself ride my dio >45kms daily. On a dio 60 is not straining the engine, as long as you accelerate uniformly and smoothly, till that speed. To increase the average speed you might have to mod it, but then FE and reliability might go for a toss.Originally posted by vrakchu View PostI am doing some extensive driving in my Dio daily, 90+ kms to my office

How you get an average of >50 is beyond my understanding since the max i have got is around 45-46 that too after limiting my speeds to ~50kmph. FE of 60
- If those figures are confirmed then you have the most F.E. dio on this planet, be santoost bro !!

@crazySID The FE of 60+ is beyond my understanding too.. The actual calculated was 63. It was a full tank check(filled with normal BP). So I gave it a tolerance of that 3kmplOriginally posted by crazySID View PostWelcome to the "dio back breakers" club, I myself ride my dio >45kms daily. and for that 50+ FE, i get it on a daily basis. I fix the throttle to 50kmph and have fun watchin it stick there itself for miles and miles..
I dont wanna mess with the engine, any external mods that could be reverted back will be cool...
I am trying hard to achieve that 60+ FE again.. will defintiely let u know once i get that..

Most mods that are done to any bike (excluding the ones that require you to open the engine - porting, etc) are reversible. Eg: FFE, Better air filters, changing to a better ECU, etc. However the damage(if any) that might happen to your scoot while running on those mods IMFO won't be reversible. My take is don't mess around with the stock setting if you value "complete honda reliability" over "little boost in performance". I myself run my dio on stock setting and on a recent xbhp G2G I managed 100kmph(speedo - i know, beyond my understanding tooOriginally posted by vrakchu View PostI dont wanna mess with the engine, any external mods that could be reverted back will be cool...
) on a straight road. Not bad aeee !!

I don't know about the bosch ones but I have tried out the HID, it worked amazing for the first 30 minutes until I was left with no headlight, drained out battery on an isolated stretch of road somewhere around uran-JNPT with no street lights what-so-ever. So if you going to install HID you will have to go through the process of AC-->DC conversion which is not that straight forward. I heard some people use pulsar battery(has to be custom fitted since its bigger than stock) and then the HID runs good for 4-5 hours, but I really doubt this works directly without the AC/DC conversion.Originally posted by Vishwas Bharadwaj View Post^^^Yes sir,Install Bosch ones they cost around 500 rupees probably even less if you are good @ bargaining.Headlights-HID costs 1200 rupees(but do not know if it's reliable). If you need branded ones, check out the accessories shop in the Forum Mall(top floor)Last edited by crazySID; 01-20-2011, 03:35 PM."To accomplish much you must first loose everything" - Che Guevara

The Bosch ones are the horns.Well, the HID works fine on my friend's access but it is risky to try and fit these without the conversion that you have mentioned. But I feel that the stock headlights on the Dio are inadequate also the vibrations at high speeds is extremely nerve racking and dangerous!BTW,the rubber-ish thing that sticks out at both ends of the handle-bar keeps falling out!!!Even after repeated requests to the ASVC they ignore it,and do some temporary adjustments but the effing problem still persists!any solutions???Originally posted by crazySID View PostI don't know about the bosch ones but I have tried out the HID, it worked amazing for the first 30 minutes until I was left with no headlight, drained out battery on an isolated stretch of road somewhere around uran-JNPT with no street lights what-so-ever. Stock headlights suck, agreed hence I added an extra 55W focus light. I dont understand the vibration part since mine is as stable as anything even while cornering at 80kmph on a curve. Most people try to ride a dio like a bike and hence end up skidding. These scoots are not meant to be ridden hard, but if you do so while applying the proper techniques then you wont have trouble keeping the shiny side upOriginally posted by Vishwas Bharadwaj View PostI feel that the stock headlights on the Dio are inadequate also the vibrations at high speeds is extremely nerve racking and dangerous!

You mean "Bar-end weights" right? I don't have them on my dio since mine is the 2009 edition, the latest edition(2010) has them. Plumbers use a white pvc tape to seal pipe joints, its not sticky, just used to create a water seal. You can use that(remove the weights and just sandwich it between the handlebar and the weights). This is a conservative approach, if you want to permanently fix them then use epoxy-resin industrial grade adhesive(fevilite or araldite). It will never fall off againOriginally posted by Vishwas Bharadwaj View PostBTW,the rubber-ish thing that sticks out at both ends of the handle-bar keeps falling out!!!Even after repeated requests to the ASVC they ignore it,and do some temporary adjustments but the effing problem still persists!any solutions???

P.S.: You can get any of the above in a good hardware shop.Last edited by crazySID; 01-24-2011, 10:31 AM."To accomplish much you must first loose everything" - Che Guevara

It is actually a 55W car smog light(i think). Outdated design by a company called Volga. Not the best, but one such light can be added(via ignition switch and an extra button) without any mods to the stock harness.Originally posted by Anish71 View PostcrazySID, can you please elaborate the part in bold. pictures would be even better.
You can either mount the focus light on the body panel(not recommended on Dio since it can crack the plastic panels). If you do this the light would be stationary ie will not move with the steering. See the pic below....

Or if you remove the front mudguard you can use the guard mounting bracket on the forks to added the light. If you do this then the light will move with the forks. See the pic below....

If you need more info about the mounting process then lemme know will upload a detailed post in the appropriate thread. (I have the process well documented

Thanks, ya mudguard is not exactly something you can easily dispose off but I can manage except during the rainsOriginally posted by Anish71 View Post^^Nice one there, it'll surely light up the road
, i hope it's well focused.
But i would not like to compromise with the mudguard.
BTW, is your electricals AC or DC??
To focus you have to adjust the angle(trial and error) and once you get it right just tighten the screws that hold the light. The added light is helpful on roads that have no street lights. Works best when turned on simultaneously with the headlight. But obviously not as good as HID's. My electricals are all stock ie AC. I used this old skool approach to add the extra light since didn't want to convert to DC to use HID's.Last edited by crazySID; 01-25-2011, 10:16 PM."To accomplish much you must first loose everything" - Che Guevara

, if my mathematics is right, shouldn't the simultaneous use of both bulbs drain the battery very fast?
