  • Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator

    Hi Guys,

I don't know whether to be sad or happy about this.. My father was in need of a scooter here in Bangalore. Both of us had shortlisted the Activa. I came to know about a Jan 2013 model white Activa being sold, and we jumped right in.. It had done 2200 kms.. We felt it was a good deal and finalized it at 52k(its around 64k OTR here in Bangalore with acc).
We paid the money got the scooter and then.... and only then did I realize that Honda had introduced HET engines which return better mileage.. I was completely heartbroken.. For the first time in my life I had gone into a deal with almost little or zero research.. And I paid the price..

Anyway guys.. past is past.. Please let me know how much difference does HET make?? Also, there is some hot air that comes out from the side(near the side stand), as I can feel it on my legs when standing still.. Is it common?? Please help..

According to the ASC near my house, the HET activa and the old one have the exact same engine just some tweaks have been made, if u find out what those are u can probably get it done on your bike too.

Yeah.. But I wonder if those tweaks can actually be done outside.. I am not very sure whether the ASCs would be ready to do the changes(even if they know them)...

ASC won't do that stuff, go to a reputed Mech in your city, anything can be done.

too keep it short - the 'tweaks' are not worth getting done.. the increase if mileage on the new het (compared to the previous model) would be around 2-3km i guess in real traffic conditions. stick to stock on your current activa and don't mess around.

I bringing home a brand new white Honda Dio next week. Wanted to know if we can get the front body guard of the same style as the design. I've seen front body guard which is not properly body design fitted, when we look from the side. Do we get front body design guard? If so, where can we procure it? I asked the dealer where i'm bringing her home(Prime Honda) but they are not sure of the design of the front guard. Hence, the question.
Also, they said that from factory TVS tires are being fitted. Please inform me if these tyres are good or if can i change this TVS tyres with Ceat Secura Neo tubeless tyres at any of the tyre dealers? Does tyre dealers take these tyres? Have anybody done it.
stay away from those fugly 'guards' .. keep the scoot 'naked' !! they do not provide any protection in the real world. trust me, its just a waste of money and spoils the look of the scoot.
Yes the tubeless tires are made by tvs and honda uses them the tires should be good ( ive only ridden the new dio once for a short spin) so stick to those stock tires until its time to change (you can then explore other brands and maybe some like mrf will come up with tubeless tires for scoots by then)

Guys can anyone throw some light on the hot air that comes out from the sides(near the side stand) when the engine is on. Is this normal? Anyone else facing the same?

i've never noticed any such thing on my dio or the activa's ive ridden. but it could be that the fan casing (which is on the opposite side) is not fixed properly and maybe that is blowing the hot air from over the engine towards the side stand ?!? can't think of anything else !

Its possible only when the centrifugal cluch casing breather tube is torn or not fitted properly
It is located near side stand

good observation, hmm.. its that rubber boot that's supposed to go on to the frame.

to check it, lift up the rear (seat+body, i.e. clic mechanism) and see if the rubber boot is fixed correctly on to the frame.

no clic ? i mean the clic is were you remove 5 nuts (on the older dio) and then you lift up the seat/rear part and you can hold it in the open position using the rod underneath(like a car's bonnet)

how does it work on the new dio ?! do you remove the side panels like a kinetic honda ?

                              Yup
Its more like Hero Pleasure since its all fiber body

i am sorry i did not understand your reply.
The older model dio (i own one) has the 'clic' [Convenient Lift up Independent Cover] mechanism and this is also a complete Fiber body!

So I am asking again, do you open the side body panels like a kinetic honda or lift up the entire seat+rear body like a car bonnet ?

being a honda scoot i think it definitely has the clic mechanism.
