Guys, one query regarding level of engine oil. Today after riding for 15 Kms reaching home I put my bike on the main stand for half an hour + . Thereafter I checked the level of oil in the following way : Firstly I opened & cleaned the dipstick with a clean cloth, then I checked the oil level without tightenging the dipstick as usual & noticed that the oil level was not upto the max level & neither at the minimum level (THANK GOD for that), the level was somewhere between the marks (Say 60% more than the minimum level mark). So, now my question is, Is my method of checking oil level right ? &, Is the oil level ok, because the last time I changed the oil i.e, YAMALUBE 15W50 SS oil, was 715 Kms earlier/a month+ back ? If there seem to be a fault what should I positively do ? My ride only 7500 Ks / 23 months old. Thanks in advance, Ride safe.

I was not doubting your question, I was just saying why Yamaha asks to take the bike to SVC for Front brake lever.. Is it such a Rocket scienceOriginally posted by vimal_hbk View Postrear brake sensor has been adjusted.... but i cant find any sensor for front brake...dats y asked...
The level is OK.. top up till the max mark and again see the level after a few hundred kms.. employing the same method as you did today. Lets see what happens.Originally posted by Abhisek View PostGuys, one query regarding level of engine oil. Firstly you have to warm up the engine oil and then check it.. not ride for 15 kms. If you do so the reading will always be incorrect as most of the engine oil has been pumped around for lubrication. I would personally recommend that you shift to SS or FS grade from Motul. Cheaper FS oil will be 7100 20W 50 which can be put in FZ/Fazer as per the manual (20W 40/20W 50). Or cheaper SS oil grade will be Motul 300V 15W 50 Single ester which is around 550 bucks INR i think!Originally posted by Abhisek View PostGuys, one query regarding level of engine oil. Do you mean you screwed on the dipstick, but not tighten it?? If yes, that would be plain wrong: the dipstick has got to be just inserted, without screwing at all.
Screwing down the dipstick would read oil level far higher than what it is, meaning it may look good while it is actually very low! Hope you did not proceed this way

ohhh my bad.....Originally posted by muztariq View PostI was not doubting your question, I was just saying why Yamaha asks to take the bike to SVC for Front brake lever.. Is it such a Rocket science
nd i prefer kamala yamaha SVC in mumbai ...which is very far frm my place.....nd thot if its some small DIY thing i cud have done by myself.....avoiding a long drive
ok...i'll check it..i guess its covered by some rubber covering......may have to remove nd adjust it.....let me see...thanks buddy....Originally posted by abhijitkn View PostHi Vimal,
The front brake switch is situated at the brake lever, as shown in the image below by #15. See if you can adjust it easily or ask SVC mechanic to do the job.

Got my rear tyre changed couple weeks back. the profile was a not so popular size (for fz) of 120/80 17. make Ceat Vertigo Sport. cost was Rs. 2,800 in Bangalore.
the main reason for opting this particular tyre was the thread pattern. this will be hugely helpful in my impending trip to Leh next year. have done just over 1000kms on the new tyre.
handling and stability of the bike remains the same. this tyre scores amazingly well on broken roads and gravel, unlike the stock tyre. higher profile also aids better cushioning to the rim. last week did 600kms round trip from Banagalore to Kolli Hills. thats roughly 400kms on highway and 200kms on twisties & country roads (140 hair-pin bends to & fro
). no niggles cornering. sticks well to the tarmac.
the only downside i see is in the aesthetics. i does look a bit skinny. the eye is so used to see the fat rear tyre. ideally i would have preferred 130/70, but could'n find one.

For comparo - The bike on the left is on Michelin Sirac 120/80 18 profile. Will try to get a picture next to a stock fz (unfortunately no friend of mine has a fz).

cheers!

No, I didn't screwed it, just placed dipstick normally (I know otherwise my engine would be SCREWED UPOriginally posted by Lucky Luke View PostHi, Do you mean you screwed on the dipstick, but not tighten it?? Can anyone show or describe how they secure they're luggage on the FZ when going for long rides? I'm talking about normal bags, not specially made saddle bags or tank bags.
The last time I rode to Goa I had a little trouble with securing my bag on the rear seat with bungee chords. Had to keep adjusting it everytime I stopped just to make sure it was safe.

Switch to SS oil straight away. Motul is much smoother, better compared to yamalube, personal opinion.Originally posted by hgps View PostBump.. anyone?

i always use two bungee cords to strap my bag. this makes sure it remains intact and doesn't slip. till date i'v not used saddle bags.Originally posted by brad_desouza View PostCan anyone show or describe how they secure they're luggage on the FZ when going for long rides? this is how i do it: chord 1 - starts from the pillion grab rails and hook it near the rear foot pegs. chord 2 - hook it from the saree guard bolt to the right hand side of the grab rails.
i use the four way chord.
