Bike Service
hi,
i own a yamaha Fzs 2013 model bought this May.
I have had the first service done at Yamaha on the old madras road near Vivekananda road metro station, bangalore !
I am planning for a bike trip of 800 km..!!
so i want my bike to be tested if it is in shape for such a trip..!!
So my question is where do i take my bike for the check, do i take it to a yamaha service center or somewhere else..??
and if to yamaha service center will they do a separate check or will this be accounted as 2nd free service.??
Thanks in advance..!!

its not a problem that creeps up only during rains.. it happens every-time..Originally posted by vimal_hbk View Postohhh k then its definitely not the oil........may b the oiling at the lever intersection may b wearing off due to rains......just an assumption as used that its smooth for initial days of servicing...
maybe the fresh oil helps in making it smooth.. but don't know why it fades off pretty early..
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
ohhh k....another thing which i would like to ask is does the SVC pour in old oil into engine along with new one?...... coz previously when they used to change the oil the oil level would be touching the minimum level or just slightly above (its justified as we will need 1.1 litre when oil filter is new).....last time when i changed to Yamalube SS the level showed till max point. will this cause any roughness in engine or gear shift problems?.......does Yamalube SS oil bottle contain more than 1 litre?Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Postits not a problem that creeps up only during rains.. it happens every-time..

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
its mentioned as 1.1L in the manual.. but at svc, they just use the oil in the 1L bottle..Originally posted by vimal_hbk View Postohhh k....another thing which i would like to ask is does the SVC pour in old oil into engine along with new one?...... coz previously when they used to change the oil the oil level would be touching the minimum level or just slightly above (its justified as we will need 1.1 litre when oil filter is new).....last time when i changed to Yamalube SS the level showed till max point. will this cause any roughness in engine or gear shift problems?.......does Yamalube SS oil bottle contain more than 1 litre?
maybe the Yamalube SS is 1.1L.. need to check that..
the old oil is not used again.. that would make the fresh oil go bad real quick.. and would not let the fresh oil to perform at its optimum..
if you are not sure, from next time stand besides your bike at the time of servicing.. that's what i do.. don't leave the bike and go home.. stay there and make sure all your problems are rectified..
Ride safe and have fun.

How many kms have you covered till date? There is no specific testing for the bike. What testing are you talking about?Originally posted by Mahadevan Ramakrishnan View Posthi,

Cheerz!!
Whenever the SVC talks about oil change, they always drain out the old oil and fill in with fresh oil. AFAIK, the 1L pack will be sufficient to get the level of oil to the maximum mark. Recently i changed the oil filter at the SVC and filled in Motul at other garage. The oil level was to the maximum.Originally posted by vimal_hbk View Postohhh k....another thing which i would like to ask is does the SVC pour in old oil into engine along with new one?...... coz previously when they used to change the oil the oil level would be touching the minimum level or just slightly above (its justified as we will need 1.1 litre when oil filter is new).....last time when i changed to Yamalube SS the level showed till max point. will this cause any roughness in engine or gear shift problems?.......does Yamalube SS oil bottle contain more than 1 litre?
The guys at Kamla Yamaha (Borivali) do their job without any ignorance. The best is to catch Umesh (the one who takes the entries of the bike) and tell him your problems. He will surely help you.

the bike has done 900 kms...!! the first service was done at 500 kms..!! i was referring to general check ups..before a long trip...!! I have a small issue with the gear shifting also wanted to check for that..!!
By separate check i meant will it be a paid checkup or will it be accounted for second free servicing..!!
Gear Shifting Issue : When i suddenly have to stop and gear down from 5th to lower gears, the shifting down does not happen..!! It does not make any signs of gear down shift..!! then i have to kick the pedal hard many times so as to shift to lower gears...!! what might be the issue any ideas..!
Thanks in advance..!!

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
The second service is mostly @ 1k kms. Since you have already done 900kms, go for the free service and get your issues sorted.Originally posted by Mahadevan Ramakrishnan View Post

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Hi Fellow FZians,
I got a second hand FZ - 16 LE Midnight black edition in may . In mint condition, ODO reasing 20k and the guy had serviced at regular intervals. The bike will turn to 2yrs in august.
I had few issues initially but after the first service, the ride was as smooth as it could get, have touched a max of 112k in NH8 and pick up is really great. Installed a Monster alarm system, its quite handy, as I have to park it in the street.
The rear break does get cranky and produces screeching noise sometimes, The mileage is around 35-40 at the moment.( Is it normal or can i improve the performance even further?? I ride at an avg of 75kmph)
How often should I get the bike serviced? As its already a run above 22k now. It has run 1.4k since the last service done 2 months back.
What all should I keep a tab on ?? Done the first service at Yamaha service center in Delhi, the guy used Yamalube SS.

the bike should be serviced at regular interval of 2500kms.. or 70 days from the previous service.. its the same for new or old bikes..Originally posted by M@noj View PostHi Fellow FZians,

the cranky sound from the rear brakes is due to used brake pads.. replace them.. also check the air filter, it should be replaced after 12-15k kms.. ask the previous owner if he had replaced or not.. same goes for the chain set..
as for other things, you know better.. when you ride the bike, you can get a better feel of whats going with her..
a query
when we lube the chain and the rear sprocket, there is a lot of dirt on them.. but i have never seen the svc guys clean the front sprocket.. i know its covered but still, there would be a fair amount of dirt.. shouldn't we also clean it ??
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Since the rear is exposed to the open and the front is enclosed, the rear requires more cleaning than the front. I was in the same dilemma and had opened the front sprocket cover to clean it. I was suprised to see, no dirt accumulation on the sprocket. The inside of the front sprocket cover was dirty with dirt accumulation. Cleaned it and fitted it.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Posta query

IMHO, try doing the chain lubing and cleaning all by yourself. The SVC guys are least bothered to do that religiously. They just spray over the chain and thats it, their job is done.
