Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Respected learned bikers,
This is to inform you all that my bike has completed 35000 kms in almost 4 years now. All this time the following has been changed/repaired -
Battery (17000 kms)
Chain & Sprocket (25000 kms)
Spark plug (25000 kms)
Air Filter (26000 kms)
Rear Tyre (33000 kms)
Fork (33000 kms)
Engine oil & Brake fluid was changed religiously.
The bike is in decent condition - if not mint, better than many (never doubted Yamaha for reliability & quality). Never had an accident too!
Now, I would like to know about the following: What other things that definitely needs a change in the bike?
I feel different nowadays, though (maybe I am not excited with the power delivery anymore). The bike needs more & quick maintenance. Is the engine/parts degrading? Do I need to change my regular servicing gaps/periods? The chain gets dirty quickly (exposed & thanks to monsoon!) resulting in unpleasant sounds (clink,chink,khlack..), slackness etc.
What is wrong with my bike/me???
Thanks!BENEATH THE REMAINS.........

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
@chaosaddict..many engine parts do require changing after 25-30k kms.. like piston rings, inlet-outlet valves, bearings in steering and wheels, check swing arm for cracks.. etc..
i had asked about similar query sometime back and there were many components which were said to be changed.. don't know them exactly..
as for chain.. monsoon can do as such.. need not worry..
other riders can give a more detailed reply..
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
As you have mentioned that, you just completed your second service. Ask them to replace under warranty. AFAIK, bike electricals are covered for first six months from delivery.Originally posted by cvijaysanthoshreddy View PostThank you so much for the reply.. One doubt, is that speedo sensor covered under warranty if at all the prob is with that ??
Cheerz!!
I guess 35k and 4 years of your time with FZ has bugged youOriginally posted by chaosaddict View PostRespected learned bikers,

On a serious note, from the list that you have mentioned, there is no mention of engine part replacement or modification to it. It is not necessary to replace/modify a part. But, to have a tip-top ride, we have to do it.

If your bike is performing flawlessly then nothing needs to be changed till she tells you something is wrong.Originally posted by chaosaddict View PostRespected learned bikers,

Though being a habitual blabberer
,i would recommend the following:
* Check the front shocks and replace the oil seal, oil, rubber dust seals as a preventive maintenance.
* Check and grease the rear swing arm bush. Replace if necessary.
* Check the front and rear tire bearings and grease them. The rear tire cush pads to be replaced.
* Get the carburettor cleaned and the carburettor valve checked, the diaphragm to be inspected for any tears or rubber hardening.
* Check the brake pads for wear and tear, sand paper them if necessary or replace them if the wear indicator pads are indicating the last stage.
* If your valve train system is making a slight noise, then get the valve clearances checked. 0.08 mm intake and 0.12 mm exhaust using a feeler gauge.
* If the SVC has a CO meter then get your bike checked.
* You may opt for upgrading/modding your headlight from stock 35 watt to 60/55 watt headlight bulb. Increases the illumination and doesnot affect the engine or battery's life provided certain precautions are followed.
* No need to open up engine if you see no major consumption of engine oil. usually 50 - 100 ml consumption is normal if one does a lot of high speed and highway rides especially for a 35k old bike.. though i have never seen more than 60 ml consumption on my ride (atleast till the time she was stock!!
).
* If you are still on stock tires and have not replaced them i would seriously recommend going for a new set and stick to stock profile... You will immediately witness your suspension firming up, better response on corners and also better stopping power with your existing stock braking system.
I can't think of anything else at the moment.. pardon the pun... sleep deprived thanks to odd hour work schedule..
Cheers,

Sounds like lean mixture.. simplest way to check the carburettor tuning is by checking the spark plug. A lot has been discussed on this thread many pages ago.. a little bit of hard work in going through the old pages will provide you all the information you are seeking.Originally posted by Parijat Shekher View PostI am having overheating problem with my fz. Its mentioned many times on this thread that lean mixture causes overheating. Can you guys tell me where to get my crab tuned in jaipur. Mine is just 1500 km old.

Not all electricals are covered under warranty, not sure about the sensor. Give it a try.Originally posted by cvijaysanthoshreddy View PostThank you so much for the reply.. One doubt, is that speedo sensor covered under warranty if at all the prob is with that ??#RetiredRider

Concern about Yamaha FZS
Hello everyone, i am mahadevan. A newbie to xbhp from Bangalore also a proud owner of a 2013 Yamaha FZS(blue silver).
it has done 850 km in 1.5 months.!!
As i have been finding a lot of answers about what type of protective gears and how well should i maintain my bike from the experts in here..!!
A special THANKS to everyone..!!
My concern is that in almost every trip i can find a pulsar, r15, Apache, and super bikes, but i don't see a FZS, is it not reliable for touring, or is there any other issue..??
pls help.! i am planing for a Bangalore - Trichy ride on my bike maybe in the first week of August.
Will it be ok
and could i get any idea about the road conditions and do bikes need to pay the tolls cause i have seen them just go without having to pay at some places..!!

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Thanks guys @nadz11.ns devils_friend @shv18 - this was helpful indeed.
Now that shv18 has mentioned technical stuff which I was always weak at
, I realize the following:
Front disk oil replaced
Rear swing arm bush was greased during last servicing
Brake pads replaced (28000 kms)
Rest is just going above my spectrum of technical knowledge
I have taken a note & will check & report back soon.
@devils_friend - yes it has bugged me & I am most definitely going to upgrade very soon but I am also very much emotionally attached to it
Meanwhile, preparations are going on for xBhp 10th Anniversary ride!!!!

Its basically a personal choice of the riders..Originally posted by Mahadevan Ramakrishnan View PostMy concern is that in almost every trip i can find a pulsar, r15, Apache, and super bikes, but i don't see a FZS, is it not reliable for touring, or is there any other issue..??

I have myself done 360kms in a single day. There is absolutely no issue in taking the bike for touring purpose, if you have kept her well. She will be loyal to you for sure.
Also, since your bike is new, please do follow the run-in procedure religiously.
Wish you many smiling miles ahead
