Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Do Yamaha make fork oil??....In Mumbai, Yamaha SVC use Motul fork oil. I have used it and its pretty good.Originally posted by SpeedyKol View PostChanging fork oil and seals today. Bought the seals..Rs. 130 each piece.
What about the oil brand and grade? Kindly let me know asap. Should I go for the yamaha genuine fork oil?

Clean the rear brake shoe. Also, see if the brake shoe has worn out unevenly or not.Originally posted by BENOY.NAIR76 View PostGuys... facing a issue since few days with my fazer... every morning while I take it out on a ride I hear this tuk tuk sound only while I brake using the foot brake and as the day goes by the sound is gone but appears again the next morning...
Is something wrong here pls advice

Cheerz!!
My guess is that, the chain drive will undergo more stress, since the smaller sprocket will rotate at its original speed but the rear will not move in tandum with the original (stock) ratio.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View PostHey guys, I have to change the chain-sprocket set in a couple of months time. So, I was thinking of under-gearing, ie. use bigger rear sprocket. As I very rarely do highway run. I don't mind losing a bit of top-end for some quicker acceleration.
i would have to read more about it and its effects on the bikes performance, mileage etc, can anyone give an initial idea of what to expect ?
Also, apart from R15's 42 teeth rear sprocket, what other options I have ?
Getting these parts individually would be difficult, will check from svc/market.
Check out thread "world of sprockets" for more info.

Go for Yamaha Fork Oil. Motul is the whole and sole manufacturer of Yamaha oils. You will not face any issues in the long run.Originally posted by SpeedyKol View PostChanging fork oil and seals today. Bought the seals..Rs. 130 each piece.

Ya, have posted it there also and read the thread also. Found that +-2 teeth is ok and can be use, but more that that, not recommended.
Will ask senior members about it.

Fuel efficiency, cold starts, engine heating, carbon deposits, engine knocking, performance issues are a few terms that come to mind.Originally posted by Subhradeep View PostHi folks,
Could anyone please let me know what are the effects of increasing/decreasing the idle rpm using the idle screw?Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Thanks for your comment but could you please let me know whether the above mentioned parameters will become better with increase of idle rpm/ decrease of idle?Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostFuel efficiency, cold starts, engine heating, carbon deposits, engine knocking, performance issues are a few terms that come to mind.
Question might be silly, sorry for that

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Decreasing idle RPM will affect the pick-up, starting of bike, bike will be stressed too much, more use of accelerator.Originally posted by Subhradeep View PostThanks for your comment but could you please let me know whether the above mentioned parameters will become better with increase of idle rpm/ decrease of idle?

Increasing idle RPM will reduce mileage, knocking, more wear and tear, carbon deposits and the main thing "you might empty your tank idling at signal then riding it
"

undergearing will give you blitz acceleration but the load on the chain and sprockets increases dramatically = lesser chain life. If you overgear it like using 15T front sprocket then the acceleration will dip slightly but the top end will increase slightly. One unexpected but good side effect is increase in the life of the chain. With 15T mod my Chain adjustment has barely moved from the first adjustment point even after almost 9,500 kms. I am expecting this one to hit 30k+ kms.

You can get 13 tooth front sprocket in svc that fits direct on fz.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View PostHey guys, I have to change the chain-sprocket set in a couple of months time. Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Actually, i was looking only for under-gearing, as i rarely get the chance to take the bike to top-end. So had a thought yesterday to search for this option. In city use, acceleration is more useful than top-end.Originally posted by shv18 View Postundergearing will give you blitz acceleration but the load on the chain and sprockets increases dramatically = lesser chain life. Cheers,
But as you said and a few other members whom I asked, undergearing would give a slightly better acceleration but at the cost of mileage and decreased chain-sprocket life.
The current ones are 13k old now. Would stick to stock, as my mileage is already very low (~35km/L range) and don't want to dip any further.
13 tooth from the svc ? Will check that. But i won't be doing this now.Originally posted by Ishwor View PostYou can get 13 tooth front sprocket in svc that fits direct on fz.
