Good thing.. I will also change mine soon.

More than one seal Didn't knew that. Will check at the svc on this.

    Fz comes with revz only.
People may use zapper when they change the tyres.

If it would have been only one seal, the SVC guy would have fitted the dust seal (the one available at SVC). But, instead he told me it isn't available.

There should be minimum of three seals, one for restricting the flow of oil upwards when the fork moves down, second for keeping the fork aligned in place, third to protect any entrance of foreign particles in the fork. (Making a guess)

      Cheerz!!

There is 2 seals in conventional forks AFAIK, one is oil seal and the other is dust seal. The oil seal fits inside the outer fork leg and the black rubber thing you see over the outer fork legs is the dust seal.

The ones I saw never had the tires replaced, the same thing with FZ16 that were rolled fresh from showroom. Even the ones on display at SVC has Zappers on them.

          Hi Cleaner,

I seriously doubt that. The ones displayed in showrooms here have Revz on'em.
Zappers are aftermarket, if at all.

There are 2 seals in each fork. One is Oil Seal and other is Dust Seal. The seals are whoppingly costly . Rs. 400 for a pair and Rs. 400 for fork oil.

That means Rs. 800 for one fork ?

When I had inquired at svc, they quoted Rs.450 for one fork (seals+oil)

No no. Oil Seal costs Rs. 180 each, Dust Seal costs Rs. 200 each, Fork Oil costs Rs. 143 per bottle. We require 3 bottles to fill both forks as required.

So, the total damage Rs. 360 (both oil seal), Rs. 400 (both dust seal), Rs. 429 (3 bottles of fork oil), plus labor charges, service tax and VAT.

Okay.. Thanks for the cost break-up.

I didn't knew the dust seals were also to be changed I just changed the oil seals. Maybe thats why I am again facing slight oil leak. Uff.. I should have asked here before.

The leakage is happening because of the oil seal going bust. Dust seal is used just to prevent entry of dust into the fork.

You can go for Motul Semi Synthetic or Fully Synthetic
                            oil.
Motul 5100 is SS. Costs about 530 INR. Very smooth but thick. Expect a little drop in mileage.
Motul 7100 is fully synthetic. Costs about 750 INR. Very good oil. Superb protection of engine especially during summers when the engine heats up a lot.
Motul 300v is also fully synthetic but double Ester oil. Currently using it on my Fazer. EXCELLENT OIL! But very expensive! Costs about 1k INR. Engine feels amazing and is very good in hot conditions. But to get the worth of the money you pay for it you have to use this oil like it was meant to be. This oil is designed for use in racing applications. So for it to be fully effective you have to warm it up first.

Then there is Motul 3100 which is not synthetic. Mineral oil which is cheap and effective.
You can decide based on your individual riding styles. If you ride sane and don't rip much then mineral or semi synthetic is good enough. But if you like to thrash your ride then go for fully synthetic.

Of course if you want to try other brands then try out shell, Castrol, Petronas etc.
Heard that Shell AX7 is also a very good oil.

This is what Yamaha has been doing for the last 2 years. Tired of these cosmetic changes.
