Also, whats your say about motul chain lube? Would it be better if i use it rather than ep 90?

i personally use diesel for washing and bl90 (bharat lube) gear oil for lubing my chain and chain lasted a whooping 34k kms(bike currently run approx 50k kms). btw contrary to as someone said earlier diesel is not as penetrative as kerosene or wd40 remember that and in an o ring chain if any highly penetrative solvent enters between the rollers past the oring then it has the potential to ruin the chain life as it may dissolve the internal grease in the rollers.
Coming to gear oils i used a lot of type of gear oils(ep 90/140 etc) but all of them have a habit of flinging off completely off the chain due to their thin nature but finally settled with bl90 as it is quite thick and used in auto rickshaw gear box due to its high viscosity and non leaking nature while other gear oils leak in an auto rickshaw gear box through the tiny gaps but bl 90 does its job pretty well there . So you can use it in your chain but the downside is that your rims will be stained with some gear oil so it may spoil your bike's looks. So if you are happy with that then go for gear oil prefferably bl 90 or else stick to your chain lube .

I am having a 2010 FZ-S. I have recently changed my fully carburetor set as my old one was giving me problems. I have changed the carburetor, 2 cables, complete engine kill switch housing and grip. The total came to around Rs.3500. Now the bike is better than its old glory. I would recommend it if you have the moola. But The accelerator cables for the old model are still available.

        Cheers

To the best of my knowledge any vehicle even if phased out as per the law, the manufacturer has to supply parts for around 11 years. It is usually the SVC guys who try to cut corners in order to force riders to either upgrade the vehicle or upgrade parts to make more money out of them. There is no such news from yamaha that single cables for the 1st and 2nd gen FZs are no longer available. In fact, one can easily procure the same in Mumbai without any waiting or anything. I suggest speak to someone in Indore (being the closest city) and see if the clutch cable is locally available from an authorised SVC or outlet. If so, you can procure 3 sets of the same as it only costs around 95 -110 bucks for one piece. You are then good to go for the next 45, 000+ kms.

                i beg to differ here.
1st of all lets understand a closed system and an open system. gear oil is manufactured for closed systems like gear boxes. now if its used on an open system, for eg, on a chain, it would not deliver the intended purpose.
im not saying that gear oil will ruin or reduce the chain life, but the application needs to be more frequent. at higher velocity the gear oil would simply fly off the chain and sprockets and make the rim, stands, and other close parts a real mess to clean.
maybe some are there, who can live with oily, greasy...i cant...

now lets take chain lubes, like, oks, motul, cyclo, etc. they are made to withstand the higher speeds and remain in between the chain for longer when compared to normal oils.
It should be noted that after a 500 km run the chain will look dry, no matter which oil you use.

i also think, that the modern day chain systems like o ring, are well lubricated for their life time ( for a 150 cc bike, 25000 kms) with occasional cleaning and lubing at service intervals. if we clean, lube and maintain proper tension maybe we will get another 10000 kms more from the chain set.

my 1st set of chain on pulsar 150 lasted for 35000 kms with only maintenance from ASS at regular service intervals, though i adjusted its tension often. currently using a duke 390 and i experimented with gear oil 140 grade. i gotta lubricate everyday with a spoon like a baby... and it lasts only for 100 kms at max.
rim, foot pegs, mud guards, under side, real mess.

bought oks spray for Rs 160. atleast rim and surrounding is clean...though lubing last only 150 kms.
I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.

Looks mostly the same from the front end, split seat at the rear and new muffer shell and mud-guard.
Lets see what all changes are there on the internals.

A weird question.Does anyone know a way to fix a engine oil leak ? I had to go for a re threading of the the engine oil drain bolt some time back for the bike, the engine oil leak stopped for a while after that, But now the engine oil leak has increased. The SC guys say there might be a crack in the center casing, replacing which will cost me around 8K rs I saw a product in snapdeal called ABRO engine oil stop leak. Has anyone used it before ? Or are there any other adhesives that I can use to close any cracks ?

Adhesives in such a area is a temporary fix only, the bottom side heats up much more and not proper ventilation will be there and the adhesive material might just melt off and cause the leak to pop back up again.
This method would have worked for gasket leaks and all. But in this case i guess it is best to change the part that has cracked. Moreover, a cracked part has more and more chances of widening the crack with more usage, and you might just find yourself stuck at some place when the crack gives way and that can be a bummer.

So i suggest to change the part, if there is a crack there as the SVC guy says.

                        Cheers

Personally don't like the oil flinging all around... But cheap like anything!! and my chain seems to like it. have done 400+ kms on EP 140 gear oil without the chain complaining.
