12 k kms is fine.. but 1 year is completely an overkill.
5 yr or 12K looks fine.

After 1.5 years and 12.8k kms of usage, nowadays I feel my rear tyre pressure doesn't last long. Took it to a puncture guy and this is the result.

And yeah... There is one more on the other side of the wheel. Yes that's 6 punctures that were accumulated over a year and half!
Now I know why they call the stock MRF a puncture prone tyre

        Nothing new here

But this way, the hole gets bigger and by time, it starts to leak again and it will be beyond repair. Happened to me months back and I had to change the tyre because of that.
I read in the Duke 390 thread sometime back that there is a way of repairing the punctures from the inside (by removing the tyre) and not like this, but don't know from where I can get the punctures fixed that way.

        Ride safe and have fun.

Mate i think you have done a really bad decision here.

That many punctures means the tyre is no longer fit to be used, and you just spent 6X100(rate for one puncture fix) for no good reason, you should get a new tyre.

Because of so many puncture the tyre cannot be taken to high speed without the risk of one of those punctures forming again or causing some instability and frequent pressure loss.

          Cheers

Okay a total noobie here... when it comes to punctures of course!
But I see what you guys mean. Yes it probably wasn't worth the money to get the punctures fixed (although he did give me a discount of Rs. 80 per puncture ).
I guess its best to replace the tyre. Will do it next month maybe. Finances are a bit tight now. Just out of curiosity, what is the expected lifetime of a puncture fix? I mean how many kms can I expect it to last before its not effective anymore?

Again thanks for the advice!! Appreciate it a lot!

            Cheers!!

Honestly, I do not know if there is a time cap for a puncture fix, if the rubber piece inserted is not done properly without the adhesive substance then there are chances that the air will start escaping out. Mostly it does stay on till the life of the tyre. As the tyre gets more balder , the more chances of it to start losing pressure again.

Now in your case , it is the sheer number of micro punctures that is the issue. So it is not actually worth the risk.

Buy coido air pressure guage at 350 something from naaptol. Check air as per history of your tyre. Fill air when required.

I bought it for 360 including delivery charge some months back.. yet to use it though.

I wont ask u to change the tyre. Its more of an individual's choice. People have ridden with 15 punctures too. You have ridden with 6 active punctures. What's the harm in riding after getting them repaired. Maintain optimum air.

On the net you would also find this puncture repair method as illegal in many countries.

It boils down to your choice.

While I know he is short on cash, that is poor advice IMHO. Arent 6 micro punctures sufficient sign of a tire thats well past its prime ?

Correcting a Puncture in a Tubeless Tire from Inside is done by the process of Vulcanizing and is a permanent fix. Instead od discarding a Tire with tread with life, better to opt for a tube inside till you can change/afford to replace the tire....Ofcourse it is the owner's discretion .

Avoid running the bike at the edge of road, since that is where most of the nails, screws , and bits of iron accumulate..

I suffered a lot due to punctures and had to replace my bike's tire at a mere 1600 KMS only especially due to that drill and patch kit. I changed to MRF Zapper Vyde 120/80 then.
Thereafter I used to get punctures repaired from a person whose shop is around 25 kms from my home who use to open up the tire to repair it from inside and charge around 80-150 for various small and big(cuts) punctures.
But now I do puncture repairs myself at a cost of 15-20 rupees per puncture. I developed a type of kit all by myself though hints are used from various internet sources and from then onwards totally I am tension free as of now except if any big cut occurs then I am all like you guys.
Can't reveal it to you guys as I will be starting its production soon after thorough testing. i already am using it for past 3000 kms without any problem. I named it IPS (Instant Puncture Solution) which serves only for Tubeless tires.
Please don't think that this is for advertising but just to inform you guys about what I am up to.
By the way I also had an off topic query regarding "how can I apply for Patent" and what are the charges for Patenting a newly developed product.
Mods, sorry if I broke any rule mentioning this post here.

Hope you are changing your tyre after it gets its first puncture. Only one puncture is sufficient to take ones life you see. INR 4200 is nothing in comparison to one's life.

Maybe, maybe not. But I surely wouldnt be the one advising to carry on just fine on a tyre that looks pretty fine, but has seen 6 punctures. To kill yourself/myself, thats your/my prerogative, to kill someone else, well...

Why cant we advise people to ditch helmets as well now? Afterall only a small number of people are saved by helmets as compared to the total number of commuters on two wheels that ever ride, right ? Why pay that 1k for a helmet at all, instead use it to put that laser-cut sticker to the rear mudguard and fancy fonts for the registration plate ?

In reply to the bold part, do you know why so many people die in two-wheeler accidents even when they were wearing a '1k' helmet ?
That's because the 1k helmet that we get in the market are nothing but plastic buckets with foam on the inside. Proper helmets are available in the markets which would actually save you. And one more thing, there is something called 'RIDING GEAR' right !! If all the people riding two-wheelers start wearing proper riding gear, the number of deaths would come down drastically.

What other members and me including are saying is that with so many punctures, the danger at high speeds would be more and hence he should get a replacement and the concerned member had understood our intention. No one is asking him to do anything, we are just advising and that is all we can do in an internet forum. Rest unto him and you ")

                            Ride safe and have fun.

If you are losing PSI's too much then it would be a good idea to get the tire inspected to find the source of the leak. If there are multiple points of leaks from the existing fixes you may try vulcanisation by opening the tire and getting the puncture fixed from the inside.

Though i respect our senior member @psr sir's advice on a simple quick fix, personally i am of the opinion that putting tube in tubeless tires is a complete no no for this vehicle especially if you do go for high speed riding as sudden deflation due a puncture will unbalance your vehicle pretty bad. The tire has significant amount of tread left, i suggest try getting the source of leak fixed first

Got it fixed from the SVC and things were perfect. Now after 500+ kms,the cornering is scary! Handlebar isnt vibrating over potholes. That issue has been sorted.
                              Hi,

sorry for the late reply. I hope the following instructions from the Yamaha service manual shall clear things out for you :

If you notice the torque ranges are very specifically mentioned on the service manual. unfortunately most of the SVCs just fix up and tighten the lower ring nut without using a torque wrench and most of the times end up overtorquing it.. which results in the coneset going kaput in a very very short notice. If you have got the lower nut tightened again, i would still recommend getting hold of a torque wrench and following the proper process otherwise, after a few kms it will become undone and the "khat" noise will be back to haunt you.

I am due for the coneset replacement but will get it changed next month.

                              Cheers,

First of all the advice was for him and not for anyone else.
There are enough disclaimers that I have put for him.. its his CHOICE.
I have asked him to buy a guage and maintain correct pressures thats it.
Its very easy to give advices like these:
Noise from sprocket - change the chain set immediately - else you will kill yourself.
Starting problems in the morning - change battery immediately else you would kill yourself.
All fz tyres show small cracks after just 1 year of usage - all you guys change immediately or else you would kill yourself.

My grandmother adviced me not to ride motorcycles. They kill we all know. Its my choice whether I take her advice or not.
Some people stop riding motorcycles when they can afford a car just because of this reason. They have taken this advice. Are cars safer than motorcycles?
We can debate for ages on some topics.

It boils down to one's choice. This is all I said and would repeat without investing more time on this topic.
