    • Chain length reduction and change of Oil Seal(front fork).

Hey guys, in response to my earlier post on Changing of oil seal for front fork and chain here is my updates.

The front shocks feels better and smoother and thereby no more fear of spoiling the front shock absorber.

Regarding Chain cutting: Since YMS doest tamper or allow any chain modification I had to rush to a nearby center. What the mechanic did was remove one portion of the chain without cutting or any welding by using a hammer, screw and a nut (not the fruit nuts ). (Pardon me cos I do not know the technical name for the joints in the chain, but they just remove one joint. Educate me in this matter if you do know).

Well the bike responded better and created very less noise as compared to the previous situation when the chain got expanded and can't be adjusted anymore. My observation is that, sometimes it still does creates a bit of thak thak thak noise only when climbing up on turns especially while riding on 1st or 2nd gear. Otherwise it works great on the plains and at higher speed.

This saved me some bux (about 650/-). Also I do not think and did not notice any problem (except for the little thak thak noise ) in reducing the Chain length instead of buying a new one costing Rs.700/-.

      • Hey Guys. Planning to pimp up my FZ... Putting tank pads seems to easy peasy... Is there any additional functionality of them. Do they protect some important stuff while hard braking??? Also do they fix well on the FZ given that its a plastic tank?? Any one done it??

        • tank pads help against scratches from belts or bags that u might carry in the front of the rider...i guess the it should be same to attach as in the case of a normal bike cause it requires adhesive and not magnets like in the case of tank bags....

dude...this is a suggestion that some1 from here only suggested....use tank bags with cords ...they are available with DSG and cramster....while attaching the tank bags use a piece of cloth while using the cords so that they dont scratch the surface of the bike...
also use bungee nets and cords for other luggage on the back of the bike(i dont think a tank bag will be enuf to take care of ur luggage) but using the same precautions as earlier....

I don't see the point of spending money on a tank bag that won't stick to the tank. You might as well use a normal backpack and use the bungee cords along with it. To protect the tank from scratches, use a soft, clean flannel or other thick cloth or a rubber foam mat.

My suggestion is to decide on which backpack to use and then visit a bag/suitcase repair shop and ask them to sew on a couple of nylon straps and quick release buckles. This is far more practical than using bungee cords and the positioning of the straps will suit your bike.

PS: I think a good quality, soft rubber foam mat will work best at protecting the tank from scratches. They look like nets and are sold as mobile phone mats for cars and are very grippy. The idea is that the rubber will grip the paint and not move around thereby avoiding scratching. Just ensure that the tank is dust-free before you use a bag.

                • see anything attached at the back of the bike with bungee cords or nets is a aerodynamic drag...also that is for more luggage...short trips u can carry ur docs and other essentials there instead of a backpack which at times can act as a hinderence in driving...

tank bags with suction cups are available at some outlets...this reduces the risk of scratches on the bike surface...

Thanks, k2cool.. That is a bummer BTW. I tend to sit a bit back while i ride. Hence on some occasions when I break hard, i tend to slide towards the tank. And then you all know what happens.... I know I know sounds funny, but believe u me i dont feel like laughing.... oh in case you are wondering why i sit back, it coz of my dangly legs. Torso small, legs friggin long...

                    • ^^ thats perfectly normal the seat in the fz is kinda inclined ...more at the pillion side but its inclined even on the riders end....

                      so wen u brake hard...gravity works...u fall...in essence...u slide to the front...

it has happend quite a lot of times that a pillion sittin behind me will slide and then after the particular incident readjust making the whole bike shake around...hence lesson learnt....ur bike...drive it alone...
