The guy whom I talked to is the biggest Motul distributor in Mumbai. Next time will surely check for 10W40.Originally posted by RanjithMN View PostMOTUL SS is available in 10W40 which is fine for the FZ/FAZER
Its around 15 months now for me and haven't faced any problems. I do a regular topup of Distilled water. I have seen that the batteries differ for FZ and Fazer. My friend's FZ has AMCO whereas my bike was provided with MINDA.Originally posted by RanjithMN View PostGuys, how long has your stock battery lasted before replacement?Last edited by RAK; 02-01-2011, 07:49 PM.

Don't worry , One week is not a problem at all ... It will and should start , just use the choke for a first time start in the morning .Originally posted by lsp2310 View PostHello All,
I have one query although not related to FZ or Fazer, but lower sibling of it SZR.
Now similar to FZ and Fazer, SZ R doesnt have kick start. Now my question here is:
- What if i go out for a week keeping my bike parked, and if I start the bike using electric start will it start?
- What needs to be done if the battery is dead?
- How would I start the bike without kick if battery is drained out?
- Is there any way to save battery from draining when I am out for a week, I have heard that removing +\- wires from battery will save it from draining, is it true?
If the battery is dead , ( i.e , the lights and horn and speedo work , but doesn't crank ) , then push starting will work , which is , put your bike in gear , 2nd gear preferably and roll it to about a speed of 5 to 7 kmph and then dump the clutch ...
If the battery is completely drained , i.e none of the systems light up , then you got no option but to charge it or jump the battery ... google the same for more info on it .

EDIT : My FZ's battery is also MINDA ... thus far no major issues with it .
EDIT 2 : Guys got rid of my exhaust cover yesterday , It was looking really bad with all the scratches and bottom end almost scraped off due to cornering .
, now my option is to either try and re-paint it or fabricate a completely different cover or to leave it just like that . any suggestions ???

one week wouldnt give any problem to the battery and you will be able to start the battery with the self start.
- What needs to be done if the battery is dead?
if the battery is dead just strat the bike following the below mentioned procedure and then run it for a couple of kms, it will charge the battery.
- How would I start the bike without kick if battery is drained out?
there is a procedure called jump start which can be used to start the engine in case battery dies....
you put the bike on center stand, put the bike in 5th gear, then give a jerk to the rear wheel so that it moves at least quarter to half the rotation in the forward direction
- Is there any way to save battery from draining when I am out for a week, I have heard that removing +\- wires from battery will save it from draining, is it true?
yes disconnecting the battery terminals will can save the battery from draining for at least a month after which it will drain itself.... for one week you can disconnect the terminalsTimon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

Today after the service my gear shift has become rock hard. I am not able to put it on neutral in stop and go traffic in both ways from 2nd to 1st and vice versa.
When I switch off the engine I am able to put it on Neutral very easily. Cant understand why this happened just after the service before that it was butter smooth.

how's the clutch freeplay ? If it's too annoying , take it right back and get them to fix it .Originally posted by RAK View PostToday after the service my gear shift has become rock hard. I am not able to put it on neutral in stop and go traffic in both ways from 2nd to 1st and vice versa.

Apart from the clutch freeplay as nand mentioned, also the check out ur chain slack. They might have tightened it a little too much.Originally posted by RAK View PostToday after the service my gear shift has become rock hard. @nand15, rylan.....I replaced the old clutch lever and clutch cable with a new one. The clutch freeplay is a bit hard right now. As per the SVC guy the sprockets are worn out and needs replacement. I told them that I will get it done next time.
Is it because of the new clutch lever & clutch cable?

So if I see self start is not working then I need to engage bike in second gear, hold the clutch and run with the bike and leave the clutch? Is it true? Or I can do this with someone pushing my bike? Please correct me if I am wrong.
What is this MINDA battery? Do Yamaha provide them in the bikes by default?
Also how do i know if the battery is maintenance free or not?

Yes you can. Either push yourself, else let someone push, or roll down an incline. All these work fine. Don't forget stopping the bike once its ONOriginally posted by lsp2310 View PostSo if I see self start is not working then I need to engage bike in second gear, hold the clutch and run with the bike and leave the clutch? Minda is one of the brands of batteries used by YMI. They come with either Minda, AMCO, or Exide, or even some other brand, depending on your luck and batch of the bike.Originally posted by lsp2310 View PostWhat is this MINDA battery? Do Yamaha provide them in the bikes by default?
MF batteries comes sealed and requires no topup and mostly it will be mentioned on the battery. Anyways YMI till now don't provide them on FZ/SZ.Originally posted by lsp2310 View PostAlso how do i know if the battery is maintenance free or not?#RetiredRider

So like Honda provides maintenance free batteries, Yamaha doesnt. So what all maintenance is needed for Battery?Originally posted by deville_56 View PostMF batteries comes sealed and requires no topup and mostly it will be mentioned on the battery. Anyways YMI till now don't provide them on FZ/SZ.
Please pardon my so many questions. I am a newbee and will be getting delivery of my SZ R this Saturday.

Routine topup one every 2 months or whenever charge is low. Clean terminals. Will be done on routine services, or can be done at home or an auto electrician (10-25 bucks job).Originally posted by lsp2310 View PostSo like Honda provides maintenance free batteries, Yamaha doesnt.
