      • I've changed the rear tyre and replaced it with Contigo 140/70 . Since then , I'm getting quite a bit of vibrations around 3000 rpm . Could the increased side wall be the issue ? My mechanic told so. I've replaced the chain-set too. Can anybody point out the problem . Most probably it's the transmission problem.

The tyre size seems ok, just because you have a taller setup now doesn't mean it should vibrate, not atleast if the tire is properly fit. Just my opinion. To completely remove tire from the problem you will have to run on another bike's tyre. Try swapping the Wheel with a friends bike and check if the problem still persists.
If anyone else knows a better option please do contribute.

Just a hunch, your tire is most likely rubbing with the rear tire hugger inside as a result at certain rpms, it is creating enough friction in between the grooves to create harmonics to give you the feeling of the vibration.

I changed the sprocket set. The inner teeth of the front sprocket had completely worn out. Shv18,unfortunately I couldn't take it to the SVC at Sewree-my towing plan didn't work out. I bought the spares and asked a local mechanic to fit it.

              • Completed the 3rd service of my bike. ODO reading 4532KM.

This is the first service that I can say truly made a noticeable difference to my ride.
Before the service I was feeling that the engine response was a bit sluggish. Also my mechanic told me that the engine was running a bit rich.
Told the SVC guys about it. Now I doubt they actually opened the engine internals and checked anything, but they cleaned the air-filter and told me that the filter was blocked and they have cleared it.

The engine feels much better at revving up now....

Also I have changed the oil to Motul 5100 15W50 SS and have to say this oil is amazing. There is a very noticeable change in the engine smoothness especially in the 4k-5.5krpm range which used to be kinda rough initially.
Going to change to FS oil next service.

Overall a good service done except the usual pain point: washing the disc with diesel
Even after being given specific instructions not to do it, they do the same thing. I came back home and washed the disc with a detergent solution myself. Much better but still not good enough

I'm gonna write to Yamaha asking the reason they do this as its not only unnecessary but very unsafe as well.

Please check the engine oil level @ about 1.5k kms.

After filling the SS oil I thought I don't need to check until 3k kms but when I checked at around 2k kms, I found the oil level below the lowest mark on the dipstick.

Also, mileage decreased drastically from 48 to 33 after the last service and the pulling power of the bike. Bike is smooth in higher speeds, however very very sluggish in lower gear. Please advice guys.

Since you mentioned a R15 too, We owners strictly stick to YamaLube or Motul. Would kindly suggest you to stick to this brand only.

Whatever you do, do not ever, i repeat, DO NOT EVER change the prescribed grade of oil than the mentioned in the manual. Shell is good oil but then prescribed is the best.

                        • 9th paid servicing details

                          Hi All,

like i had earlier mentioned, today i went for the 9th servicing and also to sort out some of the niggling issues. Anyways, being a habitual blabberer, here are the details:

                          SVC: Kamla Yamaha, Mumbai
                          ODO Reading: 23,468 kms

                          Expenses:

                          1) Oil Filter: 35 INR
                          2) Stock Air Filter: 210 INR
                          3) Fazer Dual Horn: 350 INR
                          4) Servicing Cost: 300+350
                          5) Engine Oil: Motul 300V, 940 INR
                          6) Amaron Battery: 5 Amps: 1078 INR
                          ------------------------------------
                          Total Cost: 3263/- INR

                          Troubleshooting:

As mentioned earlier, she was at time not responding to my throttle response. After reading some of the older posts mentioned by rider PSR ji a long time back about the carb slide jamming in his Karizma.. i had suspected the same. Doing a proper inspection of the carb confirmed my suspicions. The carb slide was stuck because of slight gum deposition. A little bit of cleaning up resolved the issue.

After examining my ride, the head mechanic told me that the stock battery had become extremely weak and can't retain charge any more so it will fail one day or the other. And as it turns out.. my luck she simply refused to crank at the SVC itself right during the service. The console would go blank and then light up again. Anyways i always hated the stock AMCO battery.. absolute crap!! It would always lead to formations of sulphur and carbon deposits on the terminals no matter how much vasline or greasing i did on them. So finally got rid of it. Got myself AMCO 5 amps battery Maintenance Free with 48 months of no tension i.e. 2 years guaranty+2 years replacement warranty, manufactured batch 01-01-13. I got it for a ridiculous price of 1078 INR against handing over the crappy stock AMCO battery.

Below are the images of the new AMARON Battery:

Pic 1: AMARON Battery getting fitted inside the battery compartment

PIC 2: AMARON battery finally connected with all the connections plus the HID cable too.

The stock air filter had gone bust so got it replaced. The spark plug is going on fine so i let it be. It seems the oil filter cost has come down further from earlier 55 INR to just 35 INR. I was contemplating whether to go and try out Motul 7100 20W 50 oil just for the heck of it.. but after figuring out that it just had single ester, i decided that Motul 300V with double ester and a good track record with my bike was the one i should go for. So far covered 10,000 kms with the 300V and her response has been absolute sublime and crisp.

The stock horn was dying on me. I was just chatting up with the SVC head and he just randomly told me to try out his own ride, Fazer just for the heck of it. I did a short ride and then found that the stock dual horn on Fazer was pretty loud and good enough for our Indian roads without consuming too much power, so i immediately opted for it.

The Tappets are making a bit of noise but i decided that i am anyways going to replace the whole engine head and the tappets as well and also SVC head checked them, the clearences seemed to be fine so will get it done the moment i get my hands on the final two pieces. I have requested the SVC guys to kindly keep one pair of fresh inlet and exhaust valves aside for me for the heart transplant.

Below are the images of the inlet and exhaust valves:

Pic 3: Inlet/Intake Valve part and price

                          Pic 4: Inlet/Intake Valve pic

Pic 5: Exhaust Valve Part no. and Price

                          Pic 6: Exhaust valve pic

The stock brakes are still running strong and the cush pads are fine as well. So will see how the rest of the fun goes on. My one final major expense is pending with changing the stock front tire to a new MRF one. There have been no punctures so far but just that the tires rubber compound has become hard now. She is running fine and revs climb up very fast. Just that with the stock exhaust the earlier fun is gone like i had with RCs.

I may opt for a performance exhaust soon SS grade depending on whichever exhaust complements the 182cc Big bore kit set up.

                          Cheers,

How did you clean the carb slide? Did you scrape off the coating? If yes I'd recommend you to add 2T premix to fuel from now on, i.e unless you want to face an unexpected situation while overtaking.

You can look at Motul 7100 FS 20W 50 which costs around 700 bucks INR and there have been good reports flowing in here and also at SVC. Do the change, ask the SVC to check the condition of the air filter, replace if necessary, condition of the spark plug and also keep. The valve clearences as per the service manual.

I personally feel wrong AFR is the culprit however a proper inspection by the SVC guys can give you a better idea.

@Mik: would you recommend Arijit opening up the engine and inspecting the valves and the piston rings, cylinder to be inspected for scuffing or unusual spots or do a compression test to get answers?

@All: My ride will be soon due for her service. The problems that I am facing with her:

                              1) At times, she would stop responding to throttle input unless throttled hard. So I am suspecting that the carb needs to undergo another round of inspection and most likely the plastic butterfly valve cap (don't remember the acutal name) has gone bust like it happened with rider RAK.

                              2) There is a significant increase of high pitched ringing noise from the engine which is a clear indicator of valves to be tightened as per the clearences required.

                              3) With the stock exhaust currently doing duty I can immediately feel the difference in terms of reduction in top end performance and the ride now struggling to cross 85 kmph limit.

I am currently waiting for Joel to ship me the two key components: 29mm CV Carb and also a new engine head ported by RC for the 182cc big bore upgrade. So if I can get hold of it within the next 2-3 weeks then will get everything swapped, including junking the old BS26 carburetor and also installing new set of valves to compliment the set up. If for any reason Joel, RC delays in the shipment of the goodies then my ride is going for her service regardless.

I am anxiously waiting to feel the add on power bump between my legs!!

                              Cheers,

At the moment Kamla Yamaha doesnot have a stock of SS grade Motul. They are only keeping 3000V 4T mineral oil along with Yamalube which I absolutely hate. This service I finally had to go by myself and procure 300V. I suggest speak with the SVC guys first and request them if they can source out SS grade oil for you.

@ashwinprakas: The carb slide job was undertaken by the SVC head himself. I couldnot be present at that point of time to witness the work done by him as I was out procuring my preferred brand of engine oil. But I am sure they know their job so shall not question that.

                                Cheers,
