Ok. As advised i will go to a Yamaha Service center. Can i go to other Vendors service centers ? i mean to Pacer Yamaha's service center (i bought my bike from Perfect riders). Will ask them to check the afr ratio and change carb and spark plug. Will go to service on Tuesday/Wednesday and get the oil change as well asap

        Hey guys!

Long time reader but first time contributor. Reason behind keeping quiet all this while is that I am a pretty much 'toddler' / UBER NOOB when it comes to motorcycles. Although I am pushing 30 now, I didn't know how to ride a two wheeler up until 18 months back. The 'drive' finally got the better of me and I finally learnt to ride a bicycle (don't laugh ) and within 3 month of which picked up my first motorcycle.. a gorgeous black Yamaha FZ16 (2014 Ver1)!! At this point I still had never ridden a motorcycle (my cousin got my FZ home from the showroom) and here I was with a spanking new ride (again, don't laugh )! Two spills, one skid on tram tracks and a bruised elbow later, I finally got the bike under control and boy oh boy! Wind therapy is the best thing that ever happened to me. Now, 15 months and 8000 kms later, I think I can consider myself a rider enough to contribute to these hallowed forums. I love the highways, and I ensure the view never turns into a blur. I love my 70s and 80's and there are few bikes as giggly and elated to do those speeds as the FZ. I have invested in a good full face helmet, a touring jacket (DSG EVO), full gloves and riding boots to ensure a safe and relaxed ride every single time.

Coming back to the bike, I don't think I can add much as pretty much everything has been covered in this and other related threads. Simply put, it is just a brilliant machine in terms of city/traffic performace, ride comfort, highway stability and looks.. The LOOKS! Goodness me, even today random folk ask about it (kaunsa model hai / kitna pada on road) duing signal stops or in parking lots and cast envious glances whist a ride away! )) I have also done certain mods to the bike and can vouch that no compromises to the FE or the engine reliability have been made as a result. In fact, the bike behaves, performs, sounds even better now than in stock. The following is the list of "add ons" / changes I have made:

        1. K&N genuine (imported) conical air filter
        2. NGK Iridium spark plug
        3. Splitfire Cable
        4. Adjustable stainless steel clutch / brake levers
        5. HID headlight
        6. Blue coloured parking light
        7. Replacement rear view mirrors (stock Honda Unicorn ones - bigger, better view and look good too)
        8. Mesh seat cover - best 300 bucks I ever spent considering the extra comfort and instant all weather "hop-on" it provides
        9. I have also sourced HEL Performance steel braided lines for the front disc and this will be installed shortly
        10. The stock exhaust has been stripped naked of the plastic clothing and smoothened

I now stick to the Castrol Power One Racing (full synt) engine oil - its down right brilliant and out performs the Motul double ester variant I used previously.
The bike now feels more relaxed at higher RPMs and can comfortable do 90kmph all day long. Oh! and it is a bit more aggressive and sounds infinitely better due to the Iridium - Splitfire /K&N combo and the under seat box being removed. Top whack achieved on a rare mad run on the NH2 was 115kmph. Again, the fuel economy has stayed just like than on stock - no drop whatsoever.

I have vowed to not ever perform any surgeries on the engine (Joelled?) or install a FFE for the fear of reducing the engine life or hitting the FE - although the infinitely more experienced heads here can try convincing me otherwise :P :P. I just love the character of the FZ I own and would not trade it for anything.

Shall keep you all updated!! ATGATT - ride safe ride far

Sure thing.. By tomorrow night would be fine? I generally don't use the high beam but the illumination is still far better than stock lamp. Life saver on late night return trips from office on the pothole infested roads here in Calcutta

Everything you had done is good, except this part.
You said you won't perform any engine mods, but you installed a k&n air filter and that too a conical one ?
If you like to listen to advice, better get it removed and install the stock air filter.

Much has been said about the harm that these do to the engine in this particular thread and many others.

              Ride safe and have fun.

I used to think these genuine K&N ones perform better than stock.. Totally a Noob but isn't getting more and cleaner air into the engine preferable?

More the air, more will be dust entering in the engine. Which will result in quick degradation of engine. Avoid such product's and keep the engine stock and healthy.

Hmmm. Considering the dust issues.. I had fitted it through the air box by using an extension tube instead of fitting directly onto the carburettor.. Looks like even that is not recommended.. Ok

I think You should use the HID headlights with the projector. Or else the on coming traffic will be blinded by the bright light. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think that should be the case unless you are riding with the hi-beam on and /or mis-adjusted beam levels. Correct me if I am wrong too.

Owner manual mention both of these is suitable.

HID's require projector to not blind the oncoming traffic.

SVC uses specific oil for FZ which is 20W40. But, they would generally fill R15's oil, which is 15W50 to make more money. Insist to fill FZ's oil.

Just removed the 'end bar weights' from left side of handle. To my surprise, it is a punny piece of plastic and nothing else.

Can anybody shed light on it. Had read that, the end weight generally help in reducing the wobble / maintain straight line of vehicle at high speeds and also act as balancer's. Not sure how would this act as balancer's . Weight of same is next to nothing.

Not all bikes have heavy bar end weights and this on our bike is only for cosmetic use. Its broken on left side on my bike's handle and there isn't any kind of imbalance or such.
